if you read my updated FAQ on sound card, you;d be able to answer that question yourself.

Assuming that the gigaworks is better than the z5500, and I already have the zS, I'd just get the gigaworks to pair with it.

If I did not have the ZS, but only onboard/av710, and don't wanna spend too much on the speaker, I'd get the Z5500.

Yes, basically if you buy a freaking expensive card, e.g. "whatever sound blaster" Platinum Pro...zzzZzZzzZ and conect the card to a Z5500/680/whatever speaker with built in decoder, you are virtually not using the sound card and yes....throwing money down the drain without even knowing it. That is of coz we are assuming that the card's DAC is better than the external DAC. If someone wants a good card to passthrough the digital signal to an external DAC, the RM100 AV710 does the work just fine.

yea, i read your excellent FAQ on scards before i asked the questions. i wanted to confirm this... since there is no harm asking, righ? laugh.gif

Good place to get hardware in brisbane would be blackcd. Do you know where is nathan road is? Gardern city? It is somewhere near there. You can get heaps of cheap gizmos over there. Something similar to lowyat prices.

Does anyone know where to get a good surround stand for z680. I am looking for is something similar to creative surround stand where it holds the back speakers without any stands on the floor.

because i bought it second hand mah...the previous owner didnt send it back...so i doubt there is still warranty on this speaker...as i dont have receipt...well its working...but with the annoying white noise when standby....i bought for half price mah..about rm 500...after searching the net then only i discover this problem is in the early batch of z680 doh.gif

are you referring the creative surround stand? are you sure it will hold z680? i notice z680 speakers are quite huge as compared to the soundbridge speakers.

I seriously doubt the creative surround station can hold the z680 satellites....in mid air...
