Try get the wireless models, big chance of the driver is available online. Have you tried using IronHide driver for optimus, it is inside the repository.

To be honest ACPI on linux is dodgy, could be bad implementation for your laptop.

oh.. i use switcheroo to turn off my AMD GPU on boot up to get that temps, else the temps will be much higher.

Added on January 15, 2012, 1:32 pmYou can try disable your discrete GPU with acpi_call or bbswitch since laptop usually use shared cooling for CPU and GPU. Disabling discrete graphic and only use integrated HD3000 will reduce overall temperatures.

I think switcheroo/bumblebee will work too. hmm.gif

I just updated my bios so there's "switchable" option in the bios sweat.gif.

Right now I tried to install F16 on this laptop, with only integrated display..then
"dracut Warning: No root device "live:/dev/disk/by-label/Fedora-16-x86_64-Live-Desktop.is" found"

Using live usb creator to create the usb disk..but it works fine when I tried to run and install on my AMD desktop ..

Then I run a quick google seems a lot issues too, on those with sandybridge sweat.gif

Hi guys, here is my laptop specs that is facing some problem with mint linux 12 64bit
DV6-6C19TX
Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM
AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT (1 GB DDR5)
Dual booting of mint linux 12 64bit and windows 7 home prem 64bit.

CODE
Graphics:  Card-1: Intel 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller bus-ID: 00:02.0
Card-2: ATI Whistler XT [AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series] bus-ID: 01:00.0
X.Org 1.10.4 drivers fglrx unloaded: intel Resolution 1366x768@60.0hz
GLX Renderer AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series GLX Version 4.2.11399 - CPC Direct Rendering Yes

I have being searching for solution til now but still found no solution to it other than not installing the AMD ATi proprietary into it.
so I have installed the latest amd-driver-installer-12-1-x86.x86_64.run from the official channel and everything is working fine with all the things displaying nicely. but whenever i uses the ati control panel to switch from ati to intel graphic and reboot, the problem started that whenever i login to the default gnome, i only c my desktop icons with the top and bottom bars. i tried login to gnome(classic) than everything is working fine. but i do found out that im in fallout mode whenever im using intel graphic.
i have even tried to set this:
CODE

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash [B]nomodeset[/B] pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=Linux"

but it would always resulted in stop loading during boot and always have to force ctrl+alt+del to restart and go to the recovery mode to remove that nomodeset kernel option.

i switch to intel graphic is when im using my notebook on battery and to conserve battery while on the go.

Martin Wilke of FreeBSD is in Malaysia now, he is working here and married to Malaysian. Most likely he'll lead the Malaysia BSD community which is I think is very good.

Hi there, few things regarding Linux I want to ask.

1) First of all, Gnome, KDE and Unity are distributors of the core software(notepad, paint??) in a Linux system? (which is the more popular one ?)

2) Archlinux by default doesn't comes with anything right? So I have to install one of the above( Gnome,KDE,Unity) to have a GUI to make it a looks like Windows?

3) If I want to learn more about Linuxs Konsole/Terminal commands, what should I google in Google?

Thanks in advance!

1) Nope. GNOME & KDE might be true, but Unity is just a compiz extension (last time I check). Anyhow, you still can run linux without those three.
2) I'm not sure about Arch, but probably instally unity is not straight forward.
3) google "shell commands", or "bash". Basic commands are 'ls', 'cp', 'rm', 'mv', and 'chdir'.
