Based on my experiences, its best to at least have a cup of milo or something before exercising... One may experience drowsiness and vomiting if the morning exercise (on an empty stomach) is too strenuous

I also run on empty stomach in the morning but I make sure that I drink at least 2 glasses of water before I run & more water after.

sometimes, the stomach will be very pain. i'd experience this once (keep doing that untill about 3month, never know any consequences at that time, still young blooded maybe). after that, never go jogging ever without taking anything, at least a cup of milo.

if you want to burn fats! Yes empty stomach is better, as soon as you finished jogging, take some complex carbs to replenish the energy
correct me if wrong!

is it better to have breakfast before or after workout? better if u can have a glass of plain water/milo or etc for body hydration and also have a light meal for energy supplement to your muscle. P/s heavy meal should be avoided prior to exercise to prevent vomiting and etc ~ my 2 cent view This post has been edited by Dr mind: Dec 19 2010, 09:34 AM

I read in Runner's World that if you are a 'morning runner', you should drink a glass of water 30min-1hr before you run. I dont remember it saying anything about eating though.

I think water is to prevent cramps, try to take at least a milo if you're afraid of the calories take 1/2 a cup instead, you wouldn't want to feel faint halfway or not be able to complete your morning runs.

at least have something before your exercise. just a light meal, or to 'alas perut'. you need energy for your workout. eat some cereals, or maybe bananas, nuts, oats etc.

I would suggest you taking something light before starting your exercises. It is logical that your body need energy to perform those exercises. If you're not eating anything, where is your body going to draw those energy from?

QUOTE(Kaffatsum @ Dec 19 2010, 05:28 PM) Fat or cannibalizing muscle. True. If I have to run in the morning, I do it on an empty stomach because my stomach acts up if I'm running with breakfast. Usually do it to hit the fat reserves and I'll fill the tank after.

Because he's going at it first thing in the morning, there is less reserve and you hit the fat burning stage faster.

It depends pretty much on how far U wanna run. Anything beyond 1 hr & U shud hv sumthing to eat beforehand. For training runs & races shorter than 12K normally I'll just take a gel right be4 the run. For longer races I'll hv light bfast at least an hour before. For short runs I'll just drink sum juice or water be4. I used 2 take milk, but tht upsets my stomach.
For those having upset stomach or feeling full while running in the morning (or even in the aft.) it's proly becoz U dun give Urself enuff time to eat be4 running. Solid food can sit in the stomach for 4 hrs.
