chchyong,
May be you should compile a list of upgrade steps/paths available? Good for newbies |

I have not looked at the boards myself, but the output decoupling caps are not bypassed by film caps.
Anyone who prefers a DIY upgrade should bypass the output caps with a decent pair of film caps. Vishay Rodersteins recommended. |

Yaaaay, it's here!! My unit has finally arrived.
First thing I noticed is the high end detail, really really a step above the onboard soundcard of my Dell Vostro. Cymbals sound crisper, they sound more like cymbals now instead of sounding like metal splashing, more energetic but not that fatiguing to listen to. Bass becomes tighter and more real. It's not flabby as my on-board's. Vocals also sound good, the intimacy is fantastic(according to the recording), female vocals especially. When the singer hits the high notes....wow. In short, compared to the on-board sound-card of a Dell Vostro, fantastic. Strumming of acoustic guitars sound better too. All these are straight from Foobar2000 to the DAC and to my PL50. Have yet to try Asio4all driver. A really great sounding product, I'm really satisfied and really glad I invested in it. This post has been edited by tunertoobe: Jan 18 2011, 06:24 PM |

Any comparison between Govibe DAC and this wolfson? I know govibe is only using PCM2702.
What i really interested to know is, is there really a big difference between govibe's and this dac? |

Some sounds that used to be drowned out by other sounds, not happening anymore. Hi-hats and cymbals sounds more pronounced, but at the same time everything else does so it balances everything out. With the DAC it does sound brighter, but the low end isn't actually compromised. It's just the warmness has lessened a bit. This post has been edited by tunertoobe: Jan 18 2011, 11:42 PM |

The USB Dac is miles and miles ahead, seriously no comparison. Next I compared it to an SB Audigy soundcard , more detailed, punchier bass, I'd say a ~30% improvement. My setup is a Grado SR-60i and Pcwork's recabled KSC-75. Overall I'm really impressed with the unit. Unfortunately I don't have any other standalone external DACs to compare it with (yet). |
