Guys, How capable is the XPS 15 in handling games?
As nowadays games are very demanding. I'm looking for something that resonably cheap and at the same time gives decent performance in game.

Im not looking at ultra settings. just a comfortable setting to play smoothly.

Others like Inspiron 17R are not sold because of the lack of popularity? hmm.gif

but vostro and alienware's 17 inchers cost alot..
if malaysia sold XPS 17 or Inspiron 17R, I would definitely go for it.

My friend brought back a 17R from UK a few days ago and i was drooling over the size of the screen drool.gif

I suggest u to get a Dell new XPS 15.
XPS 15 FHD would be better than the 15z because it is B+RGLED display.
for heat issue, u can upgrade to 9 cell battery, so it better to release heat.
XPS 15 GPU also better than XPS 15z

Hey guys, today I've decided to take the risk of disassembling my entire XPS15 L501X laptop to change the stock thermal paste rclxms.gif

The entire process of disassembling it took about 2 hours, whereas reassembling it took around an hour (first time doing mah sweat.gif)
Overall pretty painstaking, but you'll feel that its kinda simple after you complete it wink.gif

Here are some pictures in case some of you are interested in knowing how the insides look like biggrin.gif

Sorry if the images are kinda blurry, took it with a cell phone.

Following the guide on dell's website here, it is sufficient enough to guide you throughout the entire process.

1. Removal of the palm rest assembly

2. Removal of the display screen and keyboard + touchpad

3. Screenless laptop with the palm rest assembly and keyboard removed rclxms.gif
(those two tiny round silver things on the left and right are the speakers)

user posted image

4. Size of the hard drive. Looks smaller than an average 2.5" hard drive though

user posted image

5. This is what's inside when you finally pry open the black cover that originally 'sandwiched' the motherboard and the top cover

user posted image

6. The motherboard with the heatsink exposed biggrin.gif

user posted image

7. The heatsink removed exposing the lousily applied stock thermal paste

8. The motherboard with heatsink removed, exposing the processor and graphics card

9. The shiny mirror surface of the i7 740QM processor after removing the stock thermal paste tongue.gif
(as you can see through the reflection of my cell phone)

10. Tiny shiny surface of the nVidia GeForce GT435M GPU

I used CoolerMaster ThermalFusion 400 as the thermal paste replacement.
So far on IDLE, I'm only seeing about heat less of 2 Celcius on the processor and 4 Celcius on the GPU after 2 hours of use.
I have yet to test the temperatures on load though.
Not a big difference, but definitely worth the effort biggrin.gif

I hoped you enjoyed it! laugh.gif

dude, do you mean that the 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M graphics with Optimus (xps15) is better than the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M 2GB graphics ( xps15z ) ?
