If you plan to play games like that , might as well invest a bit more for the alienware series.. I dont think the graphic card in xps15 can handle the FHD version of crysis.. lolz.

Yes. you can. add RM411. but the screen auo model oem only sell US 170. dell gain >50% profit.(because exchange your original screen)

If you want good screen. hp dream screen; Apple Screen alreadly better then Dell. Dell BRG is 2010 product. please check on www.notebookcheck.com, help you choice 'good notebook' and improve your notebook knownledge.

Need some advice.... considering between 15 vs 15z

1) I tot of upgrading the xps 15 to 9cell batt, but wondering...
a) will it be comfortable when u put it on the lap? it's even heavier rite?
b) if place on a cooling pad, will it be harder to type coz the 9 cell adi tilted the keyboard?
c) will the laptop be stable on the table with the 9cell battery coz the battery is shorter than the laptop itself...

2) as for xps 15z, can the battery/ram/hdd be replace in the future? if the battery cannot be replace then does it mean i hv to replace the lap when the battery lifespan runs out?

3) What does dell xps premier warranty covers? is it worth to extend the warranty?

janson_kaniaz, tot i read it somewhere that the 6230 has 2 antenna that gives better wifi??

Its is like that, that's how nVidia Optimus works, the graphic part will test Intel HD.

Hi, Im looking to buy a new laptop. My budget is around 3800, and Im a bit confused of whether I should get the Dell xps 15 (the 2nd generation) or 15z (though I kinda prefer 15z more cause of the design). I have a few questions regarding both.

1. with my budget, I'd get either xps 15z with i5 2.30 Ghz or xps 15 with i7 2.0 Ghz. is it such a huge different between both processors?
2. xps 15 provides 2gb VGA card while 15z only 1gb. does it make such a huge difference for gaming?
3. in terms of design, have anyone ever compared both laptops? does xps 15 really that "bulky" and heavy?

thanks a lot for your help

1. Benchmark wise, yes, big difference. Real life, depends.
2. Minimal difference, GT540M isn't really enough for 1080p gaming anyway..

Hi all,

I know this is late. I posted before that I bought the XPS 15 L502X a while ago. So far I'm loving it, especially the screen and sound system. My friends when they heard the sound, they are all very impressed. thumbup.gif And I did play several games, mostly run smoothly. But Crysis lags a bit during high setting, so I just played with medium. Basically, it's been doing well. So, here are just some piccies to share with all, the first day I got it. Please ignore the background though, coz I'm staying in hostel currently, it's a bit ugh...

I guess maybe is your Codec problem.. you try to reinstall your codec?
I prefer K-Lite Codec or Pure Codec.. so far i didn't counter with any problem with these codec to play any media files yet.. you can have a try biggrin.gif

yo all, i'm a new owner too! details in the sig. anyway, I wanted to ask about the USB 3.0 performance. I seem to be getting around constant 60-70mb transfer speeds, when I should be getting much higher right?

I'm using a WD passport 500gb and in the pc is a intel ssd. I expected transfer speeds of atleast 100 something.. is everyone getting around the same mediocre speeds? I used a 3gb video files to test btw.. got the latest renesis (i think it's spelled like that) drivers from dell and stuff.. thanks!

not quite happy with this laptop in terms of quality...
dell qc people probably sleep at factory...

after receiving my i7-l502x on 26th may, the first thing that let me down was the mild electric shock at the palm rest.. shocking.gif
since this is quite common with l502x and many people also experience this problem, i just ignore it..

next thing i do is testing the performance with games, videos and satisfied with it...
but when i check with hwmonitor, then only i know the cooling system got problem...
the temperature is -1c from max which is 99c for motherboard and processor... mad.gif
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

turbo boost also cannot run because temp very high...

last week i sent back this lappy for repair and they replace the fan + put extra thermal compound...
now, the temp is 85c at full throttle, +-55c mild usage and the electric shock are gone....

overall, other than above problem, this is a great laptop,
for those who are interested in buying/already bought, i'd say go for it and check+test your lappy thoroughly..
