can't really seem to remember where i got the info (i think a sales agent) which that you can only extend your warranty (if done after purchase) by another year. not like upon purchase like the 3 years. and yeah, the extension costs a whole lot more after purchase (had to extend my xps 1530 warranty a year ago ~1.3k RM)
anyone know why the xps 14 is delayed? argh. they just keep saying shortage of parts. was wondering if they can just send the missing part afterwards haha

feb 28 is so far, far away.

yeah, the sales agent told me that too. after-sales warranty extension will cost 2x or 3x more, compared to when you're purchasing and customizing the system online (discounted rates in the warranty options).

I called them and say I wan to cancel my xps14, cuz taking too long ady. You know what, next day they suddenly say got parts ady, and the build is completed and ready to be shipped!

Dammit! I wanted to cancel and wait for sandybridge 1. Guess I got no fate with sandy. Hope xps14 wont disappointed me..

You gave me an excellent idea. however when i called, here's what happened in the call:

The system is built already, just waiting for backlit keyboard. --> told him ship it to me already if it's built already (w/o the keyboard), silly Dell agent. Asked him if it was a complete laptop without a keyboard hahaha.

I asked to cancel it but said it's in production already, blah blah, and I got to return it once i get it, if I want to cancel.

I asked if they can ship it to me with a normal keyboard and then just send the backlit keyboard once it is available but still no success.

If it wasn't for the extended warranty, backlit keyboard and 9-cell battery I would have just bought this system from lowyat. Tsk. There's always a next time (maybe in 3 years). Haha!

* just realized maybe someone from Dell is reading this forum -- Hi you, from Dell. whistling.gif

well, having a warranty is always a safer choice...

my previous Dell desktop has gone thru the Dell services occasionally, all the PC parts (CPU first, then the Dell 5.1 speakers, then the Dell 19-inch monitor) have been fully replaced before~ XD

errrmm actually since I bought my 1st device till now (desktop pc, mobile phones and notebooks), I never used every warranty that they give to me... and fortunately I still have my: 10yrs pentium 4 desktop, 8yrs SE W810i, 6yrs SE P1i and Axioo notebook, 2yrs iPhone 3G, 7mths toshiba netbook. all still kicking except for battery life :-D

note: I never broke all devices above :-D thus never use the warranty itself.. so, thats why I begin think that I dont need warranty at all :-D

n then last Nov 2010 I bought my new iPhone 4 without warranty and this week I bought XPS without warranty too :-D

PS.
1. I dont like play games with PC or Lappy coz I prefer XBOX n PS3 >> maybe this is one reason why I never broke my PC or Lappy :-D
2. I never turn on my PC or Lappy 24hours for download or torrenting, coz I already have 30Gb private server that can queue downloads, such as torrent. So, my lappy can sleep too :-D >> 2nd reason :-)
3. I only use my lappy for design, streaming movie, chat, emailing and internet only :-D

thts why I so confident bought this XPS without warranty hehehe :-D

It's normal. I ordered mine and even after 10 days, the status of my order is still "processing order". Got fed up so I called Dell and they told me a different story. Don't trust the updates from the website. It's been almost 2 weeks and I haven't even get mine. :/ Don't know why they took out the backlit keyboard option for XPS 15 when it's such a hit. dry.gif

finally...

21-Jan-2011 Order Received
21-Jan-2011 Work in Progress
18-Feb-2011 Manufacturing Build Complete
18-Feb-2011 Ship from Factory
18-Feb-2011 In Transit
19-Feb-2011 Uplift
19-Feb-2011 Cleared Custom
21-Feb-2011 Arrived in Main Hub

note: on the 17th of feb i called their hotline to ask if i can cancel the order and let me buy from retail shop instead.

1 month wait just because a part was out of stock (backlit keyboard on xps 14). a bit silly.. and they keep
on advertising the xps 14 and 15 like crazy when they can't ensure they have enough stock at their factories.

anyone know where this main hub is? is it in penang? gaaaahh can't wait. wishing it comes before feb 24.
