Wow you are right, they are sure stopping inventory. I was just messing around the configuration early this morning and they still had i-7. In fact, a friend placed an order midnight last night and still took the i7.

Something big is happening.
*
oh snap and my order of xps 14 just went to work in progress.. maybe just out of parts? (wishing it was the only reason they are removing it from the online store)

sorry to say but dell agent confirmed with me that they already discontinue the corei7 processor in XPS 15. Because they are launching at new version with the latest new core i7 processor soon and its targeted on the 15th march 2011.
*
yeah. just the processors are being discontinued. not the xps 14 and xps 15 itself. (which i thought was the case reading the chat log in the previous post).

good news as i was not really keen on getting sandybridge atm, wanted to allow the technology to mature a bit more before getting it.

adoi lupa edit that one . sorry. dont have it here :|
*
wahahaha.. was about to regret buying the xps 14 after i read that part about the tv tuner.
was one of the considerations i have before buying. ultimately the unavailability of the keyboard backlight for the xps 15 was the deal breaker.

now waiting (not patiently) for my order to finish... i think i have refreshed the order status page 1000x already waiting for mine to finish building. LOL.

For those of you who are wondering about the XPS 14, I called Dell and they told me they have a shortage on some components and they can't give me an estimate whether my laptop will be delivered or not...
*
Almost the same tune I got from Dell earlier. Got my ETA pegged at feb. 28 (ordered mine jan. 19) and the status in "work in progress" for some time now. I was wondering if maybe the problem with the sandy bridge messed up their production line or something. Dunno.

For sure the 6300 wireless card is no longer available at the moment.

Oh.. and maybe the chinese new year holidays affected their manufacturing too. I was informed my XPS 14 is being built in China (previously thought it was gonna be built in Penang hehe)

Try check your warranty here, just input your service tag...
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/topics/...=dhs&~ck=anavml

Upgrade is possible, but won't be same price on website..
*
can't really seem to remember where i got the info (i think a sales agent) which that you can only extend your warranty (if done after purchase) by another year. not like upon purchase like the 3 years. and yeah, the extension costs a whole lot more after purchase (had to extend my xps 1530 warranty a year ago ~1.3k RM)

anyone know why the xps 14 is delayed? argh. they just keep saying shortage of parts. was wondering if they can just send the missing part afterwards haha

feb 28 is so far, far away.

I called them and say I wan to cancel my xps14, cuz taking too long ady. You know what, next day they suddenly say got parts ady, and the build is completed and ready to be shipped!

Dammit! I wanted to cancel and wait for sandybridge 1. Guess I got no fate with sandy. Hope xps14 wont disappointed me..
*
You gave me an excellent idea. however when i called, here's what happened in the call:

The system is built already, just waiting for backlit keyboard. --> told him ship it to me already if it's built already (w/o the keyboard), silly Dell agent. Asked him if it was a complete laptop without a keyboard hahaha.

I asked to cancel it but said it's in production already, blah blah, and I got to return it once i get it, if I want to cancel.

I asked if they can ship it to me with a normal keyboard and then just send the backlit keyboard once it is available but still no success.

If it wasn't for the extended warranty, backlit keyboard and 9-cell battery I would have just bought this system from lowyat. Tsk. There's always a next time (maybe in 3 years). Haha!

* just realized maybe someone from Dell is reading this forum -- Hi you, from Dell. whistling.gif

finally...

21-Jan-2011 Order Received
21-Jan-2011 Work in Progress
18-Feb-2011 Manufacturing Build Complete
18-Feb-2011 Ship from Factory
18-Feb-2011 In Transit
19-Feb-2011 Uplift
19-Feb-2011 Cleared Custom
21-Feb-2011 Arrived in Main Hub

note: on the 17th of feb i called their hotline to ask if i can cancel the order and let me buy from retail shop instead.

1 month wait just because a part was out of stock (backlit keyboard on xps 14). a bit silly.. and they keep
on advertising the xps 14 and 15 like crazy when they can't ensure they have enough stock at their factories.

anyone know where this main hub is? is it in penang? gaaaahh can't wait. wishing it comes before feb 24.

just talked to a sales agent from dell. he says if i order xps 15 now, the assembly for my order won't be until march 15.

i just got my xps 14 a few days ago, going to return it as i don't find the purchase a sound investment at the moment (specially with the news that xps 14 is discontinued, and now the release of sandy b xps 15 with almost the same price as my xps 14)

can u actually do that with that kind of excuses? just curious...
otherwise dell would have alot of returned laptops everytime they update their specs...
*
yep, you can. the only thing is you have to pay for the delivery charges (80RM) and you have to return it within 14 days of invoice date. in my case the invoice date is feb. 24.

you can click on this link for the return policy

so it looks like I borrowed an xps 14 for a few days for 80RM. doh.gif

oh. forgot to add. if you are going to cancel because you want to buy another different laptop, the agent said he can waive the 80RM fee.

Just checked into Dell just now but seems like they are only selling the normal XPS now? Where are the XPS MLK?
*
yeah, and they updated the website it looks a lot like the US site now. maybe someone just forgot to add the new MLK when they upgraded.

use these links: 3299 RM http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...model_id=xps-15

3699 RM http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...model_id=xps-15

Thanks for the hook up there! Might order mine later.

Best of luck! there's a 3 to 4 week delay, when I last checked and they replaced the "XPS 15 MLK" with "NEW XPS 15".

seriously i really intrested wit xps 14.
but after hear that xps 14 perfomance is not so good.
hermm..

using the xps 14 for some days now (before I return it).

played the following games:

team fortress 2 (high setting)
sims 3 (high setting)
starcraft 2 (ultra)
world of warcraft (ultra)

I can say performance is pretty decent. for sc2 i didn't feel any lag although i should have looked at the framerates (got no fraps). For WoW, in ultra settings and in sholazar basin the frame rates hover around 30fps.

If only the price of the XPS 14 and the new XPS 15 weren't that so near to each other (at least for the one I bought) and if only Dell hasn't discontinued the XPS 14, I wouldn't have chosen to return it. and if only dell hadn't taken so long to deliver it to me. hahaha
