That's very typical of them. Glad to say that we do have good breeders these days that can be helpful. You just need to spend some time looking for the right one.

Rabbits are very sensitive and only a few antibiotics are recommended. Reason being, they depend heavily on the good gut flora to survive. Antibiotics will kill the good bacteria in their stomach and cause them to have stomach problems.

Antibiotics is not the solution to your baby rabbit dying problem. The common baby rabbit tummy problem is caused by the imbalance of gut flora in the stomach. Instead of killing both bad and good (already diminished) bacteria in the stomach, you should boost the number of good bacteria to help the baby rabbit make a come back. Probiotic can help at this stage.

Prevention is better than cure. When your baby rabbits start to nibble on solids, make sure they are getting fresh grass hay. I normally avoid Alfalfa hay altogether and in fact, I do not use Alfalfa hay at all.

Reason being, most pellets in the market already made of Alfalfa so giving them grass hay like Timothy Hay is better.

Added on December 29, 2011, 4:28 pmI would not depend too much on how green the hay looks like because some hay in the market are dyed with color. Just go with the fresh smell....

QUOTE(kurt_maisu @ Dec 28 2011, 04:35 PM)
visually ? if alfafa,greener = good

but quality hay usually can be detect by it's sense. i usually only those which got strong smell

If she has not come in contact with a buck, most probably is false pregnancy. It is common for intact doe to go through this and if you do not want it to happen again, you may consider spaying Snowy.

Supplements can be given daily.

Handling often is good so that Snowy will get attached and accustomed to handling. Easier for nail clipping in the long run. General rule of thumb, clean out cages once a week thoroughly. Clean toilet as soon as the bedding get soaked or overload with poo.

QUOTE(ally19 @ Jan 15 2012, 10:20 PM)
Snowy started digging holes yesterday.
Today it was plucking the grass and putting it in her cage .
Then just now she started pulling her fur which freaked me out a bit until i did a search and said it was normal for a female to do that even though they aren't pregnant (false pregnancies).

what should/n't i do?
I've add more hay.
i've got oxbrow papaya tablets. how often can i give her or should i even give her?
how about handling her? i often cradle, stroke and give her head rubs are these ok or it'll stress/frighten her?
how about cleaning her cage? i know to leave the grass and fur. how long should i leave it?
I cleaned her toilet just now and she was ok with it.

kytz, it is perfectly fine to have a rabbit home with only 1 door as long as the door is big enough for you to reach in and get bunny in case of any emergency.

Rabbits are sensitive to weather and they do not do well under higher temperature. They may get heatstroke. That is why it is better to keep rabbits indoor.

Such a long and interesting story but the bottom lines is, try to get your rabbits from reputable breeders. You have good eyes to see the difference between clean and dirty pet shops. And I always feel that it is better to source out home breeders. Even that it is not guaranteed. Some home breeders are dirtier than the pet shops and care more for the money.

Diet is also very important when keeping rabbits. Mine are lucky to have fresh hay everyday....

I heard that APD has been discontinued. Don't you just hate it when stocks are inconsistent? It causes a lot of problem to owners and pets alike. Hope you find the hay your rabbit will like. Good luck!

QUOTE(Hikaru @ Feb 11 2012, 11:58 AM)
Forgot who it was that recommended APD Timothy Gold, but that was what got my rabbit to want to eat timothy hay... and now it's the only timothy hay he would really have. Other brands - I've tried 3 other ones but he refuses to eat it until he is very hungry, and for HayPro timothy, even when he's hungry he would rather not eat. So picky.

Problem is I've been buying Timothy Gold, but recently I can't find the stock in the Petsmore shops I've been passing by from. Festival City, no stock, Taman Connaught, no stock, Mines, no stock, 1 Utama, no stock, etc. Anyone know if any specific branches or pet shops which has stock for APD Timothy Gold?

It is so sad that you allowed your rabbits to breed eventhough knowing well you cannot take good care of them. Giving them up before 8 weeks is as good as letting them die on their own. Baby rabbits need their mother until 8 weeks old. This is just so sad. Sorry....

Hi everyone i am new here,
i am not sure if i can post here, pls do let me know if this is not allow.

My female rabbit just gave birth to 8 little rabbits this morning. I am definitely not able to take care so many of them so would like to give out.
The only requirement that i have is that you have to be responsible for them. Once you made up your mind to adopt it i hope you will take good care of them until their very last day.

Here's the pic of my rabbits

Please try your best to raise them until at least 6 weeks before you slowly wean them off. That is the best you can do but 8 weeks would be much better.

Good luck.

QUOTE(.:tze:. @ Feb 17 2012, 01:28 PM)
I know that too..I already tried my best to prevent them from breeding..
I keep the guys in cages and i let the girls running free outside..
And i noticed one of the female rabbits started moving grass, shoes, clothes to one place this week and i thought its fake pregnancy..
because some other female rabbits did the same thing once in a while and nothing happen..

Only until yesterday afternoon, my auntie called me around 2 and said we had 8 rabbits again, i was so shocked..
because even if i do let the guys out, i separate them. i let the guys running outside and i keep the girls in the house..
so there is no way they can make babies that way..i really had no idea how they did this..
I have raised rabbits for more than 5 years, i love them and i know how hard and sad it is if this kind of accident happened..
but i tried my best to prevent it and its still.....aih...
i am sorry too.. sad.gif

It takes time to bond the rabbit. introduce them on neutral grounds but a male to male is pretty tough because they are dominant.

Never seen that before. Better get her checked out by the vet. Could be something with the neurons....

QUOTE(ally19 @ Feb 22 2012, 02:34 PM)
my rabbit poo and pee in her sleep. should i be worried?

in the afternoon she gets to sleep in the house where its cooler. she'll be on her side in deep sleep. then you can see 2-3 poop and some liquid.
sometimes i carry her and she'll drift off to sleep. when shes in deep sleep, she'll start peeing but not much.

is this normal?
