I read somewhere before that iOS revenue strategy is different from Android. iOS apps revenue base has to be from consumers paying/buying whilst for Android it is based on ads revenue, means the more ppl use your apps, the more ads you sell and the more revenue you got. In simple terms, the ads money will help pay the developer. Some developer don't want ads revenue so they can still opt to sell it direct.
Doesn't quite explain why a big number of my Android buddies use 'ahem' apps/games from non-market sources while most of my iOS friends actually pay for their apps/games.
