Guys, good read here.
http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=85 “Its GPU appears to be a bit weak based on the first impression. Samsung’s Hummingbird GPU might still have an edge here. So if 3D games is all you do on your phones, Galaxy S may work out better for you. So until other Cortex A9 based processors arrive to the scene by Samsung, Qualcomm and Texas Instrument, this might have the fastest solution.” |

A video of LG Star, the Tegra 2 phone! Holy shit it's out! QUOTE(Harddisk @ Dec 3 2010, 11:29 PM) Oh really? How do you test alpha blending? I am not sure under what condition it renders the most. This post has been edited by freakfingers12: Dec 3 2010, 11:43 PM |

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Dec 4 2010, 12:07 AM) Download the game "Fruits Ninja Kaka". There's this Bomb Mode where certain fruits get a glow around them. You'll see the problem then. Ahh I see. I just updated that app. Yeah, I see the white light was choppy but in previous version, there is a pop up saying "your phone is samsung galaxy S there might be some graphic issues, continue?" Most probably it's the game's incompatibility towards the phone rather than the phone. If you still don't see it, try comparing it against another phone (not 1 with PowerVR). I compared it against HTC Desire's. Desire's rendering is fine, no flickering on alpha channel textures. |

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Dec 4 2010, 09:59 PM) I think current reality is that majority of Android users are not used to paying for apps, so they either stay 'free' or go 'ahem'. iOS users are more used to getting screwed by Apple so they seem more ok with paying for apps/games. What does this mean for developers? iOS > Android when it comes to revenue potential.. A good read here, although it is very bias towards Apple. But still, there are some facts. I say it as I see it, based on observation of my buddies on iOS and Android platforms.. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/11...re_markets.html |

Anyone uses GO Launcher here? It uses less ram than Launcher Pro. I think it's really nice.
Edit: And it has infinite homescreens. This post has been edited by freakfingers12: Dec 4 2010, 11:48 PM |

Yup, some of us already laid out the points. But also, iPhone users are usually those money-come-easy fellas, they dare to spend. Partly also because Apple has so much control over their apps, that their apps tend to be "just good/working." They feel secured. That's quoting one of my iPhone friend.
People like me, visually-prioritising, when I download apps from market, most of them don't look good, they don't have systematic functionalities like in iPhone apps, they don't have standard template, they don't have standard resolution or even button functions. Then, I'll uninstall them again or refund my money. There are very few visually enhanced apps/games that I like and keep. So, sometimes I go for pirated version to begin with, and if I like it, I buy it. |

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Dec 5 2010, 01:30 PM) No data loss that I can notice so far. Actually I don't really understand why so many people are worried about non-journaling filesystem (e.g. ext2 and ext4nj) on their phones. Nobody seems to be concerned about thumb drives formatted with FAT32 instead of NTFS and the last time I checked, FAT32 has no journaling too. Because storage and memory management is different. I got some data loss, but it's very minor. Like some widgets didn't appear when I didn't shut the phone off properly. |

Yup enabled it long ago since K9. But no, I didn't have custom bootanimation but I customised the bootanimation so that it didn't have sound. The sound irritates me everytime I turn it on it's so loud.
Anyone realise the vast improvements of the GPS? Just tried it. It locked on before I even get to set navigate to my home. Turn on Papago at traffic light, boots up and traffic light turns green, quickly press menu and navi and there, voice navigation starts. Quite accurate and I tried to change my direction it got confused for 2 seconds but got back on track. |

QUOTE(Fornx @ Dec 6 2010, 05:52 PM) Smoothest? It's really passive. I am happy with ext4 without journaling for now. The risks are the same with ext2. Some have better experience on ext2 though. And no, ext2 by itself is suppose to read memory faster than ext4, but on loop it's just looping meaning the memory undergoes another loop through the filesystem. correct me if I am wrong.QUOTE(Narako @ Dec 6 2010, 04:35 PM) guys is it still worth it to buy this phone? Personally, I'll wait and see what's coming next year. I'll probably wait for Tegra 2. Rumours say that our GPU might be as powerful as a one core Tegra 2, which I think by next year we still can't fully use 2 cores. Meaning, SGS might stay in one of the top phones for as long as mid next year. But I'll still wait for early 2011, SGS is not a cheap phone and it's not easy to change phone. This post has been edited by freakfingers12: Dec 6 2010, 06:01 PM |

QUOTE(Fornx @ Dec 6 2010, 06:03 PM) I am not much on linux, but I did read that with ext2 loops, data is not written spontaneously, it is stored in buffer and not in physical files. Edit: Not finished. LOL. So, technically, it improves efficiency of IO. Hey guys, I've seen the patent files from Apple, I don't know the source though. It has 3 new patented features upcoming on the next gen iPhone 5 it seems. One of them is the Near Field Communication technology, it's a little bit different from the Google one. Next is, haptic feedback and fingerprint acknowledgement on the touch screen. And lastly, it's the RFID something something which I did not understand. Oops, Fornx, I didn't complete my sentence tertukar topic d.
It improves IO efficiency. But I don't see any changes in quadrant and I prefer data to be written. So, I don't use it. |
