AS the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 17 times in their history - 10 times in the last 11 seasons. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup twice, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Hi alien, I uploaded the Scholes Centurion video (a compilation of all 100 goals he scored throughout his career in Man United).

If it's allowed, I thought why not share with other forummers by posting the link in the first few posts. The link is : http://rapidshare.com/files/367460321/PS_Cntrn1x0.rar =)

Edit (08 Nov 2010): Looks like the link is no longer working (thx to sinoffire for notifying) so I reuploaded the video to a new link:

Movement was very good if not great tonight. Felt like the same thing a few seasons back when we struggled to get going. Scoring once in almost all the matches that we played, until Ando played in CM. Coincidence the same happened now?

Movement was very good if not great tonight. Felt like the same thing a few seasons back when we struggled to get going. Scoring once in almost all the matches that we played, until Ando played in CM. Coincidence the same happened now?
*
got to agree...when Anderson attack....he really make Blackburn's life in miserable! cuz when he was making those forward runs, he will opened up Nani, Park, Rooney and Berbatov making Blackburn players do not know who to mark....that's really entertaining to watch...

Nani is matured last season...Anderson's time just started whistling.gif

so hows every one doing after a united 100% performance??yeah its just one game but weve going on the right direction alright.

the rooney verdict:
as always he will be under the microscope now.it used to be berbs but it s him now.deserves the MOTM.his play, creativity, defending, and will was exceptional today.were starting to see the old wayne back here.glad to hear ot chant his name all the way.no goals but it will be coming veruy soon.he has moe then redeemed himself today.to the fans, the gaffer, the club and most important of all to his team mates.

agreed.his performance tonight remembered me to the ronaldo era.rooney always provided the cover, the runs, the passes for him to score.the ever unselfishness rooney.even at 7 up he still didnt push to far instead opened up chances for others.

everything seems to be clicking today.. passing was perfect.. loved how they link up via 1-2 passes... this is the utd we are missing... the main thing that got us up and running today is our passing and off ball runs..

what a great way to be on top. hopefully this form continues and i mean carrick, berba and ando..

Chill on Evans fellas. No need to bash anyone tonight. Everyonr played well. Evans just need some confidence back. Enjoy the win. It's pity to concede but to score as much as 7 goals are more than enough.

Yup. We know we had it in us. But for some reason or another, we can't last it longer than 30mins or something each match. The one thing that improved a lot is the movement. There was constant movement ahead for us to pass to. That's good to see. before this it wasn't that good. As long as the movement is there, which would create space and what not, the midfielders will find someone to pass to.

not yet mate, not yet.both of them are still doing great so why stop that??.

but i do see a dilemma here.who to pick for the double header??ando and carrick justified their claim today while we can always depend on giggs and scholes.but i guess any of these 4 who starts come dec 13 and the week after, we can expect the same high level of showing plus we can look up to them on the bench too wch is more then wonderful. laugh.gif

btw apa fletch doing on the bench??gaffer employing mind games ka?? biggrin.gif

It's not as simple as that. We had Scholes, Rooney, Ronaldo back then as well. But we struggled to score more than a goal each game, until everything clicked(Ando first season, first time in CM), and we repeat the same sort of performance for a few games on the bounce. Slow starters.. and it's proven that we are.

Ando's passing tonight..

QUOTE(Wan @ Nov 28 2010, 01:33 AM)
It's not as simple as that. We had Scholes, Rooney, Ronaldo back then as well. But we struggled to score more than a goal each game, until everything clicked(Ando first season, first time in CM), and we repeat the same sort of performance for a few games on the bounce. Slow starters.. and it's proven that we are.

Ando's passing tonight..

Rooney, Berba, Anderson passing were the best of the lot today. Nani wasn't too shabby either.

i thought you talked about this season??back then we were still playing those slick passes.even when ronaldo was here, it wasnt always the case for long balls.i noticed we started to lob them high over during last season, before rooney had his fantastic run and nani stepped up.the same happen this early this season when were deprived of some players.tho our passing game was brilliant in one other game this season wch was the 3-3 draw at goodison park.

in any case we always had that talent for passing, just as you said that squad "gelling/clicking" is a factor but what some times annoys me our players forget their passing when in a dire situation.but that all often changes when giggs or scholes steps in.

if were talking about scoring, involves a host of factors too.luck, errors, eye for the goal etc etc.but football in general, gone were the days where goals galore.as the game become more and more technical, result driven we rarely see tams freely expressing themselves and rack up the goals.

We lob them forward because we just can't find a way to get through on the ground unless we pass it sideways/backwards. Movement have been good tonight. That's a big difference IMO.

touche'.he still very young, got the talent, and he knows he can do it.today was one of them.i think right now all he needs is a helping hand in staying fit and games will come to him.so far except his 1st season here,he was dodged by injuries.

AMAZING performance from the Red Devils ! really too bad Rooney didnt managed to get on the scoresheet and score from open play but then he was heavily involved in the build up play of the first 2 goals ! still a wonderful performance from Berba to get 5 goals !

Soon he will move to that position. Attacking midfield. Passing is good vision is good. He will stay forever. We all know midfield stay longer than strikers.

i wouldnt mind if berbatov dries up and fire another 5 goals in a game. Its not like we dont have enough striker to fill fugures on the scoreline

It's the general performance that counts. If he performs well, people won't mention too much about his lack of goals. But some people will still do it anyways just because we have to fault someone every game.

Do ya'll think Rooney is content with his current playing position?
I think he perform superbly yesterday, but his position yesterday was quite deep which he might not like(just like during the CR7 days)..

He will get his goals. Rooney showed his commitment last night. He didn't throw much tantrums as he did last season. More likely he couldn't afford to due to his floodgate earlier this season. Nevertheless, it was a great team play by him. That said, I am happy if Rooney can emulate last season's performance. Anywho, season is long to go and he might just find himself on scoring streak as well.

On an another note, NOTW and The Mirror reporting that SAF is trying to do a cheeky bid on Schweinsteiger in January. Nothing concrete though. More bollocks like. laugh.gif

impressed by Ando. hopefully he'll play on CC QF and build up Nani-esque renaissance from yesterday. he have got a tools to be World Class CM, need a games and consistency. his stamina is a suspect, 90 min of football for the 1st time in United's red, if i recall it right.

3 points and an improved GD. pile pressure to the champion and waiting for youngsters run-out on Tuesday. good weekend!

Cleverley still young, mayb can wait? Gibson, apart from his LD shooting, he not really able to compare with carrick, ando and fletcher.

i think he's the one only CM in the world, or the best option, to fit regular United's 4-4-2 and 4-3-3.. he'll cost us a lot, but his contract situation will make him slightly cheaper.. dream signing for me ATM.

IF we do sign him, it would probably due to Scholesy's age and Hargreaves inability to comeback. The younglings might just go out on loan spells again. Gibson will do a Fletcher Mark II.

Working combo for us?

Scholes - Fletcher
Ando - Carrick
Ando - Hargreaves
Scholes - Carrick

ya Man Utd's Midfielders are very comparable to one another so hard to favor one and leave out another so rotation is needed to keep players satisfied..

If only there are more evidence on Fletcher-Carrick. They did well early of last season. This season, Fletch seems to be off a bit. Carrick and Fletch on their days would be awesome, to be frank. Schweinsteiger will replace Scholesy place, IMO, IF he comes here. But knowing Bayern, hmm.gif

Rooney was unhappy in CR days because he was stuck out on the left wing and at all times have to track back when we're defending because Ronaldo on the other side won't do a thing defensively. This Rooney is involved directly in the middle of it all. The goals will come soon enough for him.

EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United Winger Antonio Valencia Could Return In January Following NASA 'Water Torture' Treatment
http://www.goal.com/en/news/596/exclusive/...a-could-return-

QUOTE
Manchester United star Antonio Valencia has finally stopped limping this week after taking part in revolutionary ‘water torture’ sessions to speed up his recovery from a broken ankle, Goal.com UK can reveal.

The underwater treadmill designed by NASA has helped the winger make such rapid progress at the club's Carrington training ground that insiders believe he could return to full impact training as early as January and target a return to the first team the following month.

Valencia dislocated his ankle in a challenge with Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot in September and there were initially fears he would miss the remainder of the season.

But the Ecuadorian has shocked medical staff at Old Trafford by making light work of his rehabilitation since he began exercise training a month ago.

The former Wigan man started his road to recovery immersed in water to take the weight off his injured ankle and to help improve his balance.

He then began a programme of light jogging in purpose-built hydrotherapy pools under the watchful eye of the United physiotherapists.

Valencia, 25, has since been introduced to the underwater treadmill to help him build up muscle strength in his legs in readiness for his return to action.

The club are using waterproof cameras to record his movement and pick up any problems in his running stride or general movement.

The treatment has been so successful that Valencia was seen walking around Carrington this week in normal stride and without a limp.

It has prompted hope that the £16 million star, signed from Wigan in summer 2009, could still feature heavily this season for Sir Alex Ferguson's side as they look to win back the Premier League title.

“The water work is heavy going, but he is determined to play a big part during United’s run-in,” said a source.

United have spent significant sums on the state-of-the-art water technology, which is used by the US Navy and a number of American football teams as well as Premier League rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The television images of Valencia’s injury in September’s Champions League clash were deemed too graphic for Sky to broadcast live.

Yet the reaction of his team-mates made it immediately clear that he had suffered serious damage as his ankle twisted into an awkward position under the challenge from Broadfoot.

Apparently the reason why Ronaldo and Rooney managed to recover so quickly for their injuries thumbup.gif

wow, now its even earlier, before this the estimation was around Feb 2011 blink.gif

Valencia really determined and fired up to come back and help the team, and this is a very very good news, although i would wish that the team don't rush him, let him recover 100% first

I would love to see this kind of performance again when we meet Arsenal and Chelsea.
When everybody is talking about how awesome Berba last nite with his goals, many of us i noticed totally forgot about our unsung hero, Ji Sung Park. From my observation, he displayed some magnificent football with his full stamina, running riot at the opponent's defense line each time the ball crossing the center half, and put his name on the score sheet. He didn't pass a lot, neither try to shoot himself, but his unpredictable running pace was more than enough to create some space for more creative players to create goalscoring opportunity.

Yeah I think he did a good job but it seems his better at free roles or behind the striker rather than wings. Did anyone notice sometimes he is a bit struggle to receive the ball at the left wing? I guess he really got three lunges as he did well connect with Evra and demolishing Salgado laugh.gif

TBH im not big fan of Park. but i think he's an important player to us for BIG games (UCL KO round/against any Top 5). like Fletcher. a game that we demand enormous workrate from a players to hassle opposition.

never fancy him as a winger against inferior opposition /lower half of the league, a game that i expect United had comfortable possession.

when we took a 3-0 lead last night, i hope SAF sub him out early for Obertan (which SAF did eventually). i think SAF share a same opinion, but due to Valencia /Giggs are unavailability. so, LW berth are direct competition between Park and Obertan.

anyway, its great to see him onto great scoring form this season after few dismal games.

5 goals and 3 assists. I thought he did well throughout. Even Nani is having 6 goals and 8 assists. Not that far off when comparing goal contributions, ain't it? Furthermore, the latter starts more games than the former does.

I'm not a fan of Man Utd but somehow I feel delighted for the team with everyone on red hot fiery form. BPL surely has more drama awaits and let's hope for the best for the club we support. Again, really sublime finishes by Berbatov and very good teamplay among those players. Cheers smile.gif

if im not mistaken, in previous campaign, there's some sort award for the 1st player reach the milestone 10 goals, 20 goals etc. not actually 'an award', but the player will win a plaque with some reward money from sponsors and give it to his choice of charity body. not too sure.

there's news snow fall in Newcastle. postponement of Newcastle-Chelsea are possibility. but at least the pitch will be in poor condition. i always believe poor pitch condition normally give the underdog team a slightly better chance to get a surprise result.

5 goals and 3 assists. I thought he did well throughout. Even Nani is having 6 goals and 8 assists. Not that far off when comparing goal contributions, ain't it? Furthermore, the latter starts more games than the former does.

he did really well. im not slating him or what. just not a big fan. prefer SAF giving Obertan more chances as LW in 'easy' games (home games against lower mid table team)

berbatov was amazing last nite, he is quicker then before...

now with rooney, berbatov, hernandez , around

it will be hard for macheda to develop,

If given the choice, I wonder fergie will choose berbatov or macheda?
*
everyone will have their minutes on field... CC is coming and its against west ham.. im sure we could see macheda hernandez duo

i think anderson was given a much more familiar role by fergie by playing in a more forward position instead of playing in a hargreaves-like position most of the time. thats why we saw a better anderson last night...

the whole team was awesome last night....

if Blackburn try to contain the mid, we have Nani, Park, Rafael, Evra waiting to storm on the flanks

if they tried to defend the flank, we have Ando, Carrick, Rooney, Berbatov waiting to deliver the surgically precise through balls from the mid

frankly, few teams could really match United's pace and form last night, and i pity Blackburn because they had to be the prey

What a match against Roma! 7-1! Carrick scoring a g- oh wait, this is against Blackburn?

Luckily Mami Diouf wasn't playing, else he would've became Captain Awesome and score a hat-trick. Stupid loan policy >:/

now we have a new turbo engine a.k.a Anderson, if he continues to play this well (or improve, even better), soon every opponent will really fear when playing against us

Though if I were to pick up on something to improve upon yesterday, (hey nothing is perfect right?), is the way we defend the Samba goal. Nobody challenge the ball, he basically got a free header inside a sea of united players. I guess the defence slacked coz of the massive gap. But not complaining, they "deserve" to slack if they can finish the job early. Just saying, If they defend that part well, wow..I can say a near perfect performance.

Fergie expects end for Edwin

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson expects Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to retire from playing at the end of the season.

Van der Sar turned 40 at the end of October and the Dutchman remains a reliable presence between the posts for United.

He has yet to give any firm indication of whether he will continue his career beyond this season, but Ferguson is planning for the keeper's retirement.

Ferguson believes that Van der Sar would not want his form to drop and also confirmed he wanted to spend more time with his wife Annemarie, who suffered a brain-related illness last year.

Big loss

"I have come to accept this will be Edwin's last season," Ferguson told The People. "It's sad but the difficulty for a goalkeeper when he gets to 40 is something which happened with Peter Shilton.

"All of a sudden, because of age, Shilton's form just collapsed and I don't think Edwin would want that. He is such a proud man and it's going to be a big loss.

"We had a chat last season about how he saw his future and he explained to me his plans, and nothing has changed from then.

"It's difficult because he has his wife's health to consider after her illness.

"She is fine now and seems to be really good but she still has treatments to get in Holland, with physiotherapy and things like that. So for him to be here with us would be difficult."

The Red Devils have already agreed a deal to sign Denmark international Anders Lindegaard, but Ferguson is considering bringing in another keeper after being linked with the likes of Maarten Stekelenburg, Manuel Neuer and David De Gea.

He added: "We haven't finalised our thoughts on the goalkeeping situation.

"Edwin has massive experience and you can't buy that, so it's a difficult one because he has been a great goalkeeper and will be hard to replace."

Either someone to come in or Amos?

Schweinsteiger fits the bill for Fergie - Exclusive

QUOTE
Manchester United are weighing up a £12million raid for German powerhouse Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The Bayern Munich midfielder is continuing to stall on signing a new contract, with just 18 months left on his current deal, and Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to steal a march on Manchester City and Chelsea by making a move in the New Year.

Bayern are beginning to accept that Schweinsteiger is ready to move on after coming through the ranks at the club.

And although they have already told United that they do not want to lose one of their best players during the season, that will not stop Ferguson from stepping up his interest.

The United boss knows that he will be unable to match either City or Chelsea financially if he waits until the summer.

Ferguson is normally reluctant to do his transfer business in January, but wants to strike first in the race for the 26-year-old.

With Paul Scholes now aged 36, Owen Hargreaves still plagued by fitness problems and Michael Carrick’s long-term future at Old Trafford still undecided, United are desperate for top-class midfield recruits.

Schweinsteiger fits the bill perfectly. He was outstanding when Bayern knocked United out of the Champions League last season and followed that with a sensational World Cup.

Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan have also been linked with Schweinsteiger.

But sources in Germany say he would prefer a move to the Premier League.

Bayern are in some disarray this season and are struggling to make an impact in the Bundesliga despite topping their Champions League group.

we might be buying big this Jan/summer and GK will be top of the list then. on Schweiny, if Ando can keep up his form, Haegreaves comeback and Scholesy longevity are all good then we are not going for him.

TBH im not big fan of Park. but i think he's an important player to us for BIG games (UCL KO round/against any Top 5). like Fletcher. a game that we demand enormous workrate from a players to hassle opposition.

never fancy him as a winger against inferior opposition /lower half of the league, a game that i expect United had comfortable possession.

park is never a natural wide man that provided long crosses like valencia/obertan/nani/ronaldo.Park can cross, like everyone else but his main job is to outrun fullbacks, doing diagonal run to penalty box and provide extra man in the midfield.

beg to differ.he is perfect embodiment of a wide man.no fancy footwork, but a lot of speed and when he arrives at his target area bomb in the crosses or passes.besides parks simplicity in his play what makes him different then nani.nani is more on the new age winger, some thing like obertan whom always uses tricks, and fancy skills and every now then a good free kick.

valencia and park are the more traditional type, they dont go for goals unless there is less support and hold on to their main objective of supplying the forwards.

anyway, the water treatment reli makes sense. running/jogging inside helps exercise and strengthen the newly built tendons and muscles that were damaged, but it removes the unnecessary body weight which may put strain on the leg when doing these exercises. basic yet ingenious.

*
Evans had him covered but Samba pushed him, which resulted in Evans being off balance and Samba got a free header. Should have been a foul. Samba had both of his hands on Evans shoulder/back/neck area.

we might be buying big this Jan/summer and GK will be top of the list then. on Schweiny, if Ando can keep up his form, Haegreaves comeback and Scholesy longevity are all good then we are not going for him.
*
We still don't know what the situation is regarding the GK part. VDS could stay for one more year. But it seems SAF is planning for the worst. Lindegaard have 6 months to impress. I believe he is the one we are going with. We'll search for another backup GK(with a bit of experience, and not that young) unless somehow we can trick Kuszczak to stay on for a while.

Would be a great signing that Schewiny. Could do with another quality player there. Everything seems perfect for us to jump in ahead of queue. Just not sure whether SAF would be interested. Carrick, Ando, Fletcher 3 confirm performer. + Scholes(let's just judge him as an extra right now, since we need to prepare for the future), Gibson as the one coming through, backup/squad. Hargreaves, good if he's back, Fletcher's backup.

QUOTE(legendofhafiz @ Nov 28 2010, 07:06 PM)
Salute to VDS. He done magnificently in Manchester United. We should snap him after Juve want to sell him though. He got brilliant career with United. I hope he can retire by holding the 19th this season  notworthy.gif

We already had Barthez that time who perform really well the previous season.

QUOTE(nemanja15;8967272)
We're now a third of the way through the season, time-wise, and I stumbled across some good comparison and relation statistics yesterday and thought I'd share them:

After 15 Premier League Games:

2002/03 W: 7 D: 5 L: 3 F: 23 A: 16 D: + 7 Pts: 26

2005/06 W: 9 D: 4 L: 2 F: 25 A: 13 D: +12 Pts: 31

2006/07 W: 12 D: 2 L: 1 F: 33 A: 7 D: +26 Pts: 38

2007/08 W: 10 D: 3 L: 2 F: 25 A: 7 D: +18 Pts: 33

2008/09 W: 9 D: 4 L: 2 F: 27 A: 10 D: +17 Pts: 31

2009/10 W: 11 D: 1 L: 3 F: 34 A: 13 D: +21 Pts: 34

2010/11 W: 8 D: 7 L: 0 F: 35 A: 16 D: +19 Pts: 31

AVERAGE: W: 9 D: 3 L: 2 F: 29 A: 12 D: +17 Pts:31

So I'd say, based on past evidence, right now, we are where we need to be.

After 23 Games (All Competitions):
(Including cup games where theoretical points are awarded for victories)

2002/03 W: 13 D: 5 L: 5 F: 41 A: 21 D: + 20 Pts: 44

2005/06 W: 14 D: 7 L: 2 F: 41 A: 20 D: +21 Pts: 49

2006/07 W: 17 D: 2 L: 4 F: 44 A: 14 D: +30 Pts: 53

2007/08 W: 16 D: 4 L: 3 F: 42 A: 14 D: +28 Pts: 52

2008/09 W: 12 D: 8 L: 3 F: 38 A: 14 D: +24 Pts: 44

2009/10 W: 16 D: 3 L: 4 F: 44 A: 20 D: +24 Pts: 51

2010/11 W: 15 D: 8 L: 0 F: 52 A: 21 D: +31 Pts: 53

AVERAGE: W: 15 D: 5 L: 3 F: 43 A: 18 D: +25 Pts: 49

Again, it shows that our club is doing just fine(!) and that with or without Ronaldo, our scoring has not changed - here is evidence that other players have indeed stepped up.
Interesting stats that. The most we scored by this stage of the season in the league in all those years.

im some how seeing that tom will stay.i do hope he stays.i mean if he is sure that vds leaves that means the spot is open for the taking.yes weve signed lindergard but he is practically untested.(was a reserve until last season, and lets be frank the norwegian league is a few steps down the ladder)

so tom might have a chance here if he can impress the gaffer like he did when we signed him back then.its open for any one whos willing to go the lengths for it.despite the stick he his been getting, wch is very weird since he has tough job of displacing one of the greats in the game, he still a very good gk as far as the epl is concerned.

Kuszczak won't be a first choice with us, unless he stays as backup and the one we put our trust on doesn't work out so he gets his chances but if that happens, it would only be temporary before we start looking for another GK. His kicking and command of the area isn't good enough. Good backup to have though. And should VDS be out injured for a while(months), I have no problem seeing him in goal. But as a first choice, we need someone better.

The story was that OB(Lindegaard's previous club) release their GK that time because of discplinary problems or something, and Lindegaard became first choice. But he then got injured, along with the backups. So the poor OB had to sign someone good, fast. So they ended up hiring Roy Carroll for big money(wages), and they had to play him since his wages is so high. Lindegaard wasn't happy obviously, and that's why he ended up at Aselund, first on loan, before joining there permanently.

Lindegaard up for battle
QUOTE
Manchester United new boy Anders Lindegaard insists he has not moved to Old Trafford to simply sit on the bench. The Danish international will move to England from current club Aalesunds in December, but will not be eligible to play until January. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expects current No.1 Edwin van der Sar to retire from playing at the end of the season and is considering bringing in another keeper after being linked with the likes of Maarten Stekelenburg, Manuel Neuer and David De Gea.

But whatever the competition, Lindegaard insists he is up for the fight to become the new first choice at Old Trafford. He told VG: "I am not travelling to Manchester to sit on the bench and I feel that I am brought to the club to fight for a place in the starting XI. "It's obvious that this is a dream. I have followed them since I was a small boy and my father is a big fan.

"For Manchester United, it's a long process to buy players and they have been tremendously careful. "I feel they know me better than I do myself."

QUOTE(Wan @ Nov 28 2010, 11:17 PM)

Lindegaard wasn't happy obviously, and that's why he ended up at Aselund, first on loan, before joining there permanently.

i think thats a bit harsh on tom.were jumping the gun on him now.when he played i see him giving the most, its only that chances are hard to come by.besides if we can hope for improvement on outfield players why not tom?.

just as you said, if the one we put as #1 doesnt work pout, tom could be the one to dish out his old self and prove his worth.

at times i really hate nani when he thinks that he can go all solo and not pass to anyone.

i also agree with dlct87, he was going for goal before trying to pass it to rooney which was a big failure.

even rooney's face expression says it all

he should've pass the ball early to rooney when they both entered the penalty box.

well, i hope he tries to do better next time.

nice fellow, but at times he does the last minute passing late.

Err? It's easy watching it from the comfort of your sofa. Please think a little what would you do in that same position without having a radar on your mind of where everyone is on the pitch at that exact moment.

Just curious, when was it in the match? I only remembered it once when Nani was put through on goal, and if Nani had pass the ball first time back to Rooney, it would most probably have gotten to Rooney and lead to a goal. But Nani took the extra touch(because maybe he thought he had to with the defender closing on him). In the end his cross pass was blocked. Is that the one?

What's harsh? That I think he's not good enough? He's a good backup GK. And if we're in a bother(main GK injured for long periods, or GK having form issues), I have no problem seeing him in goal for months. He's a good GK, but not as first choice for me. The fact that we're looking at various GKs says as much. His kicking and command of the area isn't good enough for me.

He won't improve much on his kicking and his command of the area, just like how Ando won't suddenly become a godlike shooter from distance, or in front of goal for that matter and score more than he has. Just like Rio ain't a goal scoring defender, or Evra ever being a good crosser of the ball. Kuszczak just isn't good with the ball at his feet. While that is not a crime for a GK, but add his nervous streak whenever the ball is pass back to him, it would lead to a lot of hairy moments considering that we play a lot of the balls back to our GK to deal with.

He could prove his worth, but we already know that he's a capable GK, as backup. If the main one fails, we would look for a new one and repeat the process until we find the right one ala VDS back then.

QUOTE(Calvin871989 @ Nov 28 2010, 11:41 PM)
at times i really hate nani when he thinks that he can go all solo and not pass to anyone.

i also agree with dlct87, he was going for goal before trying to pass it to rooney which was a big failure.

even rooney's face expression says it all

he should've pass the ball early to rooney when they both entered the penalty box.

well, i hope he tries to do better next time.

nice fellow, but at times he does the last minute passing late.
*
Like I said, it's easy to make comments in hindsight, and having to see the whole thing in your TV where you can see everything. It's different being in Nani's position. He probably thought he can't make the early pass without it being block by the defender that was chasing him and he thought he needed the extra touch to get away. Hindsight.

Charlie Adam is by far their best player, but the striker Varney seems to be scoring consistently, though maybe not commonly.

Anyway, something to divert a topic: Anyone remember David Bellion? tongue.gif suddenly teringat that guy..

I really liked Chris Eagles, too bad he wasnt getting enough football and decided to go to Burnley..He is definitely premier league quality player, dont know why no clubs are after him at the end of last season

the one and only reason Butt cant make it to the first line up is because Keano and Scholesy is god mode back then, otherwise he will be regular. Having said that, he isn't a back up as well, he played a whole lot of games, either as starters or subs. check out wiki, about 30+ match a season.

all 3 of them were regulars actually.keano, butt, and scholes.the 3 was one of the formidable midfield maestros we had.still remember his tackles, never the one to shy away from physical aspect of the game.

He was first choice and scoring lots of goals for Bordeoux the last time I read about him. It was a season or two back though. Not sure if he's a regular now.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/5...bellion?cc=4716
07/08 first choice. 30+ games started, 12 goals
08/09 squad? 17 games started, 4 goals
09/10 backup 7 games started, 3 goals
this season so far, 2 subs..

I don't think he should be considered as a flop. He wasn't bought to be fighting to places in the first team. He was brought in as a gamble. If it works out, great, if it doesn't, it doesn't bother us one bit kinda signing. He's the kind of signings teams do now and then. They saw the raw ingredient and thought it could turn into something better. But as is with most cases, not everything works out. We had Ole, Ruud, and Forlan and we operate with only one striker back then.

by flop, i mean generally doesnt work out la. Flop doesnt have to be top-name-turn-bad...that's stereotyped by Berbaflop tongue.gif. he's signed as promising, especially at the first few games. but end up the progress not as expected, so in that sense is a flop. at least thats my definition of a flop la, dunno what's yours sweat.gif

He was first choice from the day he broke through until Scholes become too good, along with Keane still there, and a loss of form because of injuries, meant that he was a backup/squad in his final years with us. Counting back, it's still worth 5-7 seasons as first choice for us. Not the greatest of players, but very good on his day. He was a good player for us. In the big games in the treble season, it was him alongside Keane who played in the middle.

Actually, based on my readings from United's history book and biographies of other legends, Butt appears to be the most promising of all the class of '92, ahead of Becks and Scholes. Like, he's the most mature among the group and in a sense, have the more experience.

QUOTE(Wan @ Nov 29 2010, 12:53 AM)
He was first choice from the day he broke through until Scholes become too good, along with Keane still there, and a loss of form because of injuries, meant that he was a backup/squad in his final years with us. Counting back, it's still worth 5-7 seasons as first choice for us. Not the greatest of players, but very good on his day. He was a good player for us. In the big games in the treble season, it was him alongside Keane who played in the middle.
*
I rmb that actually, he was one of the fledgings and broke into the regular first team before scholesy and becks..and he even started in the CL final in 1999 was it?

have to be careful when I type, "was always a rotation/backup player in his latter years"..but I personally just don't consider him as having the ultimate status of being a legend in Man Utd history which some of you may argue against

by flop, i mean generally doesnt work out la.
*
Flop, sign to be a someone in our team(first choice/squaddy) but fail to cement a place or perform while with us. Veron, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Forlan.

Manucho and Dong ain't one for me. Those are gambles, although in the case with Dong, more of a marketing ploy. Diouf(early days, but with the amount of strikers we have, we won't keep him) and Tosic is another one. Not enough chances.

Probably not a legend. But he deserve far more respect than 'always a backup player' considering he was a very important member of the first team from the day he broke through in our successful years in the 90's

The sooner they move on ad forget about Benitez, the better they would be. They need to wake up people see them as a joke because of Benitez. They are where they are because of him. Woy is just trying to clean up the shit, but it's hard when the likes of Benayoun and Mascherano who was very important for them left.

I think it's almost impossible to predict right now because it will depends on our performance in second half of the season. With a bit luck and no injuries plus our team can score a lot, why not? laugh.gif

hmm, treble,, not impossible..but still too early to tell. is our team capable of beating the likes of barca and real? time will tell.
(we need the intervention of sheep biggrin.gif)
fa cup is one cup i would like us to win this season..it's been too long, it's time we win it ..we are the best team in fa cup history anyway.
we're in a good position in the league, but i would say we can onli tell around march-april if we are the favourites. there are still too many games to go.
anyhow, except for arsenal winning, it's been a fantastic week for us biggrin.gif

I hope we don't boast. Remember it's a cup game, and what's more it's Liverpool vs us. It doesn't matter if we are 1m times better than then, come these sort of games, those things along with form don't count. Even a shitty side can win.

What a great way to start the week. i am so pleased with our team position in the league rite now but still its a long long way to go and anything can happen between now and May next year.

Spurs were really doing so well last nite. Lucky we already beat them. Only last night i realized that they got a few sprinters in their team.

Huah... 37 years ago today, a legend was born.
Very worry this will be his final season as player with Man Utd sad.gif

Great weekend for us, it's weird that we won 2-0 against 9 men but 7-1 against Blackburn.
Must be the power of Old Traford... let's kill Liverpool in our Theater of Dreams flex.gif

Speculation saja lah, same like Villa/Silva/Ribery thing, endless one...Can only know for sure in January, if wait 1.5 more years then he's free...but I can see him signing a new contract at Bayern some time this season..Cleverley wont get much games now, better off at Wigan for now

Definitely wouldnt mind seeing Schweinsteiger's girl at OT though, goddess drool.gif

Yeah. I want terrible defence from both sides. A goal gluts will be interesting rather than tight game. laugh.gif
