Movement was very good if not great tonight. Felt like the same thing a few seasons back when we struggled to get going. Scoring once in almost all the matches that we played, until Ando played in CM. Coincidence the same happened now?

We have to wait till the next game to confirm we are back in the groove. Blackburn at home is 'easy'.

I would say another 2 or 3 games. Our link up play was terrific tonite. I have been waiting for this all season! Finally... biggrin.gif
*
Yup. We know we had it in us. But for some reason or another, we can't last it longer than 30mins or something each match. The one thing that improved a lot is the movement. There was constant movement ahead for us to pass to. That's good to see. before this it wasn't that good. As long as the movement is there, which would create space and what not, the midfielders will find someone to pass to.

QUOTE(mhyug @ Nov 28 2010, 01:21 AM)
i blame it on the long balls.were not the type for the long ones.were th slick short passes then see where it goes kind of team and our play was built on that.

and i think having back the likes of ando, carrick, rooney whom are exceptional passers aids in that.last layer to hit 5 was best.irony berba did it in the week we remember him.

r.i.p best notworthy.gif we will never forget!
*
It's not as simple as that. We had Scholes, Rooney, Ronaldo back then as well. But we struggled to score more than a goal each game, until everything clicked(Ando first season, first time in CM), and we repeat the same sort of performance for a few games on the bounce. Slow starters.. and it's proven that we are.

Ando's passing tonight..

i thought you talked about this season??back then we were still playing those slick passes.even when ronaldo was here, it wasnt always the case for long balls.i noticed we started to lob them high over during last season, before rooney had his fantastic fun.the same happen this season when were deprived of some players.

in any case we always had that talent for passing, just as you said that squad gelling is a factor but what some times annoys me our players forget their passing when in a dire situation.but that all often changes when giggs or scholes steps in.
*
We lob them forward because we just can't find a way to get through on the ground unless we pass it sideways/backwards. Movement have been good tonight. That's a big difference IMO.

Hopefully Ando will do a Nani. All this talk about our midfield will stop. We really need him to be on song. Scholes replacement is right under our nose.

It's the general performance that counts. If he performs well, people won't mention too much about his lack of goals. But some people will still do it anyways just because we have to fault someone every game.

Do ya'll think Rooney is content with his current playing position?
I think he perform superbly yesterday, but his position yesterday was quite deep which he might not like(just like during the CR7 days)..
*
Rooney was unhappy in CR days because he was stuck out on the left wing and at all times have to track back when we're defending because Ronaldo on the other side won't do a thing defensively. This Rooney is involved directly in the middle of it all. The goals will come soon enough for him.

Added on November 28, 2010, 10:40 amSchweinsteiger would be awesome. But knowing how SAF works these days, he won't even think about him.

Though if I were to pick up on something to improve upon yesterday, (hey nothing is perfect right?), is the way we defend the Samba goal. Nobody challenge the ball, he basically got a free header inside a sea of united players. I guess the defence slacked coz of the massive gap. But not complaining, they "deserve" to slack if they can finish the job early. Just saying, If they defend that part well, wow..I can say a near perfect performance.
*
Evans had him covered but Samba pushed him, which resulted in Evans being off balance and Samba got a free header. Should have been a foul. Samba had both of his hands on Evans shoulder/back/neck area.

QUOTE(boxsystem @ Nov 28 2010, 07:01 PM)
we might be buying big this Jan/summer and GK will be top of the list then. on Schweiny, if Ando can keep up his form, Haegreaves comeback and Scholesy longevity are all good then we are not going for him.
*
We still don't know what the situation is regarding the GK part. VDS could stay for one more year. But it seems SAF is planning for the worst. Lindegaard have 6 months to impress. I believe he is the one we are going with. We'll search for another backup GK(with a bit of experience, and not that young) unless somehow we can trick Kuszczak to stay on for a while.

Would be a great signing that Schewiny. Could do with another quality player there. Everything seems perfect for us to jump in ahead of queue. Just not sure whether SAF would be interested. Carrick, Ando, Fletcher 3 confirm performer. + Scholes(let's just judge him as an extra right now, since we need to prepare for the future), Gibson as the one coming through, backup/squad. Hargreaves, good if he's back, Fletcher's backup.

QUOTE(legendofhafiz @ Nov 28 2010, 07:06 PM)
Salute to VDS. He done magnificently in Manchester United. We should snap him after Juve want to sell him though. He got brilliant career with United. I hope he can retire by holding the 19th this season  notworthy.gif

We already had Barthez that time who perform really well the previous season.

QUOTE(nemanja15;8967272)
We're now a third of the way through the season, time-wise, and I stumbled across some good comparison and relation statistics yesterday and thought I'd share them:

After 15 Premier League Games:

2002/03 W: 7 D: 5 L: 3 F: 23 A: 16 D: + 7 Pts: 26

2005/06 W: 9 D: 4 L: 2 F: 25 A: 13 D: +12 Pts: 31

2006/07 W: 12 D: 2 L: 1 F: 33 A: 7 D: +26 Pts: 38

2007/08 W: 10 D: 3 L: 2 F: 25 A: 7 D: +18 Pts: 33

2008/09 W: 9 D: 4 L: 2 F: 27 A: 10 D: +17 Pts: 31

2009/10 W: 11 D: 1 L: 3 F: 34 A: 13 D: +21 Pts: 34

2010/11 W: 8 D: 7 L: 0 F: 35 A: 16 D: +19 Pts: 31

AVERAGE: W: 9 D: 3 L: 2 F: 29 A: 12 D: +17 Pts:31

So I'd say, based on past evidence, right now, we are where we need to be.

After 23 Games (All Competitions):
(Including cup games where theoretical points are awarded for victories)

2002/03 W: 13 D: 5 L: 5 F: 41 A: 21 D: + 20 Pts: 44

2005/06 W: 14 D: 7 L: 2 F: 41 A: 20 D: +21 Pts: 49

2006/07 W: 17 D: 2 L: 4 F: 44 A: 14 D: +30 Pts: 53

2007/08 W: 16 D: 4 L: 3 F: 42 A: 14 D: +28 Pts: 52

2008/09 W: 12 D: 8 L: 3 F: 38 A: 14 D: +24 Pts: 44

2009/10 W: 16 D: 3 L: 4 F: 44 A: 20 D: +24 Pts: 51

2010/11 W: 15 D: 8 L: 0 F: 52 A: 21 D: +31 Pts: 53

AVERAGE: W: 15 D: 5 L: 3 F: 43 A: 18 D: +25 Pts: 49

Again, it shows that our club is doing just fine(!) and that with or without Ronaldo, our scoring has not changed - here is evidence that other players have indeed stepped up.
Interesting stats that. The most we scored by this stage of the season in the league in all those years.

QUOTE(mhyug @ Nov 28 2010, 10:51 PM)
im some how seeing that tom will stay.i do hope he stays.i mean if he is sure that vds leaves that means the spot is open for the taking.yes weve signed lindergard but he is practically untested.(was a reserve until last season, and lets be frank the norwegian league is a few steps down the ladder)

so tom might have a chance here if he can impress the gaffer like he did when we signed him back then.its open for any one whos willing to go the lengths for it.despite the stick he his been getting, wch is very weird since he has tough job of displacing one of the greats in the game, he still a very good gk as far as the epl is concerned.
*
Kuszczak won't be a first choice with us, unless he stays as backup and the one we put our trust on doesn't work out so he gets his chances but if that happens, it would only be temporary before we start looking for another GK. His kicking and command of the area isn't good enough. Good backup to have though. And should VDS be out injured for a while(months), I have no problem seeing him in goal. But as a first choice, we need someone better.

The story was that OB(Lindegaard's previous club) release their GK that time because of discplinary problems or something, and Lindegaard became first choice. But he then got injured, along with the backups. So the poor OB had to sign someone good, fast. So they ended up hiring Roy Carroll for big money(wages), and they had to play him since his wages is so high. Lindegaard wasn't happy obviously, and that's why he ended up at Aselund, first on loan, before joining there permanently.

Lindegaard up for battle
QUOTE
Manchester United new boy Anders Lindegaard insists he has not moved to Old Trafford to simply sit on the bench. The Danish international will move to England from current club Aalesunds in December, but will not be eligible to play until January. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expects current No.1 Edwin van der Sar to retire from playing at the end of the season and is considering bringing in another keeper after being linked with the likes of Maarten Stekelenburg, Manuel Neuer and David De Gea.

But whatever the competition, Lindegaard insists he is up for the fight to become the new first choice at Old Trafford. He told VG: "I am not travelling to Manchester to sit on the bench and I feel that I am brought to the club to fight for a place in the starting XI. "It's obvious that this is a dream. I have followed them since I was a small boy and my father is a big fan.

"For Manchester United, it's a long process to buy players and they have been tremendously careful. "I feel they know me better than I do myself."

look at the highlight..nani didn't pass to rooney when he had the chance..if it's because he doesn't like rooney then it means trouble for us..
*
Err? It's easy watching it from the comfort of your sofa. Please think a little what would you do in that same position without having a radar on your mind of where everyone is on the pitch at that exact moment.

Just curious, when was it in the match? I only remembered it once when Nani was put through on goal, and if Nani had pass the ball first time back to Rooney, it would most probably have gotten to Rooney and lead to a goal. But Nani took the extra touch(because maybe he thought he had to with the defender closing on him). In the end his cross pass was blocked. Is that the one?

i think thats a bit harsh on tom.were jumping the gun on him now.when he played i see him giving the most, its only that chances are hard to come by.besides if we can hope for improvement on outfield players why not tom?.

just as you said, if the one we put as #1 doesnt work pout, tom could be the one to dish out his old self and prove his worth.
*
What's harsh? That I think he's not good enough? He's a good backup GK. And if we're in a bother(main GK injured for long periods, or GK having form issues), I have no problem seeing him in goal for months. He's a good GK, but not as first choice for me. The fact that we're looking at various GKs says as much. His kicking and command of the area isn't good enough for me.

He won't improve much on his kicking and his command of the area, just like how Ando won't suddenly become a godlike shooter from distance, or in front of goal for that matter and score more than he has. Just like Rio ain't a goal scoring defender, or Evra ever being a good crosser of the ball. Kuszczak just isn't good with the ball at his feet. While that is not a crime for a GK, but add his nervous streak whenever the ball is pass back to him, it would lead to a lot of hairy moments considering that we play a lot of the balls back to our GK to deal with.

He could prove his worth, but we already know that he's a capable GK, as backup. If the main one fails, we would look for a new one and repeat the process until we find the right one ala VDS back then.

at times i really hate nani when he thinks that he can go all solo and not pass to anyone.

i also agree with dlct87, he was going for goal before trying to pass it to rooney which was a big failure.

even rooney's face expression says it all

he should've pass the ball early to rooney when they both entered the penalty box.

well, i hope he tries to do better next time.

nice fellow, but at times he does the last minute passing late.
*
Like I said, it's easy to make comments in hindsight, and having to see the whole thing in your TV where you can see everything. It's different being in Nani's position. He probably thought he can't make the early pass without it being block by the defender that was chasing him and he thought he needed the extra touch to get away. Hindsight.
