You do not need base room, you can upgrade from v7.6.2 to v8.0.1 or you do clean install wiwth v8.0.1
I did both methods before

How do I use the froyo screencap function? Hold back button and wait for vibration, then press home? I tried holding the back button for damn long, but no vibration.

Edit: Ok, got it. No need to wait for vibration. Just hold "back" and press "home".

-----

Another noob question. Can I install my apps directly from AppBrain website? Just connect my phone and sync with the website?

Thanks!

I've tested a few mods the last few days and it seems all the mods are just a tweak of this and that and doesn't really give any noticeable performance over the other. The only thing that I can conclude is that, without the lagfix all the mod are pretty slow. So for the non-techy users who just want to use the SGS as a smartphone with all the features offered by Sam, my advise is to just install a lagfix and remove all the not-needed applications to preserve battery life.

Even the lagfixes introduced by the mods are basically to speedup read/write operations and until Sam can upgrade the RAM to 1GB or more, then only everyone can run many applications at the same time without the need to do swapping. In typical linux operations, once the processes start using swap memory, the process will slow down a lot, however Android memory manager is a bit more efficient in this but still introduce sluggishness after using your phone for days without rebooting.

For the techy who loves the fast lanes, get a mod that disable swap or use ADB and disable swap manually. CyanogenMod is one mod that disable swap and it is blazing fast than any other mods but still not stable to go into production. Install a task killer that can give you notification when memory ran out and you can manually kills the not-needed processes to free up the memory.

For basic users, just get a lagfix and you are good to go to enjoy the phone.

Original battery from Samsung shops can get, RM 268 if I recall correctly. Not sure about 3rd party battery, but some forumers have bought from ebay before.
