DXJE9? As far as i recalled, there is not SEA (DX) region got JE9. U mean XXJE9? if XXJE9, then ur friend shd be able to upgrade to XXJPO, which is a UK ROM. Have ur friend try to upgrade the kies to latest version?

Well, if upgraded still not able to update to Froyo, then u shd ask your friend come and join the BRIGHT side like | Kee | mentioned.

thx too..... wink.gif

If you're not keen on tweaking or messing about with custom kernels or firmwares, I'd recommend you not to consider SGS. Out of the box, a number of issues need 'fixing up' - the phone is full featured, but laggy..

Anyway, just looking at the Desire HD specs, I suspect its battery life will be pretty shit - 12xx mah batt on a phone with a >4 inch display..
*
What are the problems? I heard its only laggy right? A lagfix will do the job according to |KEE|, no?

I might do a few tweaks..but not going all out as to rooting it.

Rooting is probably the easiest thing you can do. The rest involves messing around with firmware flashing, getting optimized radios, choosing and keeping up to date with custom roms - not to mention backups/restoring apps, identifying what the heck is draining your battery, why is the phone sensors on all the time, why isn't the phone going to sleep, etc.. This is a high maintenance phone - depending on your appetite for punishment; some will relish the challenge of optimizing their phones, while others just want a goddamned phone that works. tongue.gif

Btw, I'm a proud owner with a love-hate relationship with the SGS. It's like crack - you love it but you hate yourself for it.

I wonder why you guys only enable 2 kernel tweak instead of all? Is there any issue caused by another 2 options?
From what I seen at Speedmod thread, it is recommended to enable all 4 tweaks...
*
Cause I see some people having problem when enabling the 4th tweak. for the 3rd one, I dunno what's that, so din enable it tongue.gif

The main problem will be a bit laggy and GPS, so far no other issues. Samsung has released GPS fix for Vibrant I think

Damnit, cyanogenmod 6.1 beta2 is not ready for primetime. Some really cool features that our stock Samsung firmwares don't have, but overall performance is poorer than speedmod+lagfix+tweaks.

Camera performance is spotty at best, video playback totally sucks, GPS seemed better and quicker, audio was somewhat softer, stuck with stock keyboard (cannot switch to smart keyboard pro), bluetooth doesn't work, higher batt consumption some more.. I'm back on XXJPO with speedmod now. Thank gawd for nandroid backup/restore.. biggrin.gif

I think I'll wait for an RC release before trying cyanogenmod again..

P/S The CM devs were not kidding when they said that current CM releases are for 'experienced users' only. Very hostile forum discussion environment and very beta nature of the release makes for difficult time for us not-so-experienced users. Can't blame the devs, really, they're not getting paid to do the work, and noob requests/feedback make them naturally mad as hell..

Oh yeah, forgot 1 thing. Wanted to ask you guys something. CyanogenMod's web browser has this cool feature - when you pinch zoom a page, the text auto-reflows to fit the screen. Our stock firmware web browser doesn't do that, we need to double tap the screen for it to do text reflow.

Anyone know if this web text reflow after pinch zoom feature can be enabled via s/w or system tweak?

Noob question here. Never use CWM recovery before.

Do I need to rename *cwm.zip files to update.zip to using CWM recovery "apply zip from sdcard"?

Or do I rename it to update.zip and reboot into 2e recovery to apply it or just apply update.zip from CWM?
