I'm have the itch to get a U41Jf again. Just when I thought I suppressed that urge, the reviews are slowly changing my mind. This post has been edited by AlexLai: Feb 2 2011, 02:16 PM

QUOTE(silvadesk @ Feb 3 2011, 01:47 AM) Hey all, izzit common at all that when you first get the ASUS laptop, the seller installs Win7 STARTER? My sis just bought an ASUS model A42JY and the seller installed Win7 STARTER. If you ask me, I think it's weird but I need a second opinion on this. Also, she can't use the combination of FN + Volume Up/Down. Any idea why? FN + Brightness Up/Down works fine though. Appreciate and thanks for any help ya! Not really, depends on what model. Most models in the mid-range have W7 Home Premium. The A42JY doesn't come with an OS by default.

The Asus product guide indicates that the A42JY comes with no OS at all. o__o

I was looking at the other 2 at the bottom. Oh well, he didn't specify which model to be exact.

QUOTE(spax @ Feb 3 2011, 04:02 AM) u41jf still goin for 2950 is it a good price ? shop seller tried pushing Asus N82JQ on me at the same price but based on review its a strong machine i7 but only 2 hrs battery life and overheats like hell, so thats a big no. A good machine for the money. But I think you can get it at a lower price if you scout around. Make sure you get the one with the i5-480M and 4GB of RAM like what Eugene said.

Nothing now, unless Asus decides to release a larger capacity one in the future which I think is very possible considering that they did state an 8 cell battery in the product list.

A42Ja came out several months ago.
A42Ja has a better CPU but loses to the A42JP's GPU. Not by a lot but for the price, the JP is more value for money.

That much of graphic memory doesn't mean it's much better. 2GB can be considered overkill for such a GPU. The HD6570 is only slightly faster than the HD6550.

And less RAM and HDD space if I'm not mistaken.

Mine was and still boots in about a minute. I blame the amount of data I shift on this thing.

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Feb 9 2011, 12:24 PM) Got L4D2 ? Wonder if the gun/fire texture problem still got or not... I'm still using the previous version, no problems with the L4D2 textures. Only problem I had there was that most of my COD games black screened when I started it.

QUOTE(dunkiedonuts @ Feb 10 2011, 08:03 PM) Hey people, my a42jv is experiencing some hanging and weird issues occasionally, so I suspect my hard disk drive is dying. A few questions I would wanna ask: 1) Roughly how long will it take for them to replace my harddisk? 2) Is it possible for them to "lend" me another harddisk while they take mine out for servicing? 3) Is it possible for me to replace the faulty harddisk with another one, and then just send the defective harddisk for servicing? (since seagate harddisk is the root of the problem) That's all for now. Thanks! I experienced a total HDD failure after just 8 days of purchasing my A42Jv so I can share my experience. 1) It took them 8 working days to replace it. 2) I asked them whether they could take the HDD only but they said they wanted the whole laptop just to make sure it was only the HDD at fault. 3) Ditto as above.

I'm really really tempted to get a U41JF now that I seen people installing a backlit keyboard into it. And the SHE high performance mode OC is just wow. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-revie...s-lounge-2.html

The EeePC line uses a smaller head compared to the regular notebook line.
