lwliam: good guideline. say at f1.4 at these situations, don get too shallow DoF?
*
of coz depends on the situation as well.. if big groups, then use 3.5 / 4 like that lor.. generally, if u are far enough from your subject, even at 1.4, the DoF is still 'thick' enough to cover the subject you want...
and at times, dont be afraid to use direct flash if bounce is not enough to give sufficient light..

you could use Kelvin settings to get the ambient like you want, even WITH flash... probably use 7000K-9000K depending on the actual ambient light, of coz your flash light have to be diffused enough..

at 1/160, what ambient light in the background also gone edi laa... with f/10 your camera is detecting sooo little light from your flash that the flash would need to fire nearly full power to actually light up the scene.

next time with conditions like this, take this as a guideline.. its not set in stone, so follow where appropriate..

f/4 - f/5.6 (larger aperture the better)
1/30 - 1/50
ISO 400 minimum, higher the better (noise limiting factor)
*
need tweak custom WB??...the whole scene is nicely lit up...don misunderstood...everything nicely lit..i m using flash power 1/32..my prob is the pic looked very normal, just as if the restaurant using white bright fluorescent light..my pic come out sharp and nicely lit..but jz without the orangy feel...maybe my wb setting turned it back to white...i using flash with diffuser pointing to ceiling...

QUOTE(zstan @ Nov 23 2010, 11:47 PM)
lol ahpingko. everybody here advised you to shoot f5.6 or wider during the morning but u din follow at all and shoot @ f10?! shocking.gif

not skill problem la..is don wan follow people's advise but still asking for it.. aikz..sorry to be harsh blush.gif
*
i tried at F5.6...at auto flash setting...the flash is not bright enough...i used lower shutter such as 1/5 at iso 1600 with auto flash..then i turn off flash, it looked quite the same...so i use higher power of flash at 1/32 and at that settings...become too damn bright..so i up it to F10 and lower flash compensation..

anyway...i feel so hard...i need practice more... cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

oh mai..i feel that my skills sucks till the max..just nw having buffet in Delicious @ Marc Residential...the nice yellow ambience surrounding..i used bounce flash to the ceiling...at iso 800 , F10, Flash compensation -2, 1/160..WB at flash white balance+3..all the picture come out like under normal light...yes, quite sharp and nice..but without the nice yellowish ambience feel.....
*
dont be so obsess with stop down sharpness lar. try to use larger aperture range. if you still stubborn with sharpness, then you have to bump up your iso to 1600 or even to 3200 to compensate F10.
or get a better lens that will give u the same sharpness even at F4, and u dont need to stress your flash light and to high iso. smile.gif

ahpingko : Very simple. Shoot RAW and then go back home and edit the WB until you satisfied.
