Which would be better, especially when there's people moving around?- AI focus or AI servo? hmm.gif
*
mmm AI focus... because if I use AI Servo on my 550d... 70% oof which is sucks.. unless if you use 7d then can use AI servo without worrying much about the output sweat.gif

QUOTE(Q-fays @ Nov 21 2010, 10:21 PM)
hye.. I want to ask in video mode for 550D, are we have to focus the image manually? but I can see we can use AF to focus right but when start the video how to focus part that we want to focus? must us manually?
*
yes you need to focus manually... unless if you af during recording a vid... can also but then transformers sound will be recorded too

the AF function is the same... half press the shutter button and it will do its job

QUOTE(goldfries @ Nov 22 2010, 01:39 AM)
if i can afford full frame, i would likely use the $$$ for more lens and accesories than going FF. smile.gif if got FF also the condition must be that i'm not stuck with that 1 body and limited lens.
*
Thanks for the answers from all but I have to agree with goldie on this 1... because seeing as the sharpest lenses of canon if put it in the crop factor seems abit awkward pictures and also can't fully utilize the focal length which is to my liking....

then again 5d mark ii degrade itself witht the AF system cry.gif so... crop for now... till canon can finally 5d mark iii and this time I hope the AF is better than before sweat.gif

QUOTE(niwooe @ Nov 22 2010, 02:00 AM)
There is a misconception about FF bodies that they are extremely expensive, but in fact the older generation FF bodies like the 5D is so affordable that you can easily purchase one at good condition. While losing out on the newer tech, it delivers impeccable image quality such that ur cheap lenses will shine on the sensor. Pair the camera with good L lenses and you'll be blown away. But of course, it still depends on how you handle your camera. wink.gif

I bought a 5D as I was in a budget, at only 3K, I have nothing to complain  biggrin.gif
*
hahaha when I have 3k to burn, I might give it a try thumbup.gif thanks for the recommendation seems like 5d mark i and 5d mark ii doesn't have any difference in photography aspect sweat.gif correct me if I'm wrong tho

RM 4k for 5D, nice but I'd rather save up for a 5D2 with 3 years warranty. smile.gif plus i get 21MP of goodness and improved AF.

if 5D2 good enough for Jerry Ghionis and Yervant, it's good enough for me. wink.gif
*
I thought that the AF between 5d2 and 5d1 has no diff? read those dslr's forums.... but then again... maybe they are wrong

Total noob in photography in the sense of settings but I so have an idea of what kind of shot and style I want.. what is the best way I can convey this message to my camera? Do you guys learn from reading books, taking courses, or just total trial/error non stop practice? I'm not looking for short cuts, easy way out or anything.. wanna learn the proper way with dedication.. Just point me in the right direction plz...

Hi everyone biggrin.gif i am planning on getting a canon 550d with the 18-135mm lens, so far i heard lots of good stuff from friends and reading online, but are there any issues that i haven't heard about? this will be my first dslr and any advice would be greatly appreciated smile.gif
*
huhu... 550d is a good camera for beginner but not easy either then again it does have almost all the features of 7d and people always said of it as baby 7d

this is some of photos with 18-135 + 550d and yes I didn't apply any post process except resize

If you want full support auto focus while vid, I would also recommend sony's product since their dslr's usually the job for that particular thing

Guys, have abit of dilemma here ~.~

Should I go for 550d + L lens or 5d mark ii + normal lens? I am sure my path is no more than just a hobby... might aswell get the best combo..

and yes this is for a long term period... been thinking high and low then again. I want to know what people think too...

Thanks in advance

P/s: 1d mark iv is also a choice then again too pushing it maybe not so good... so maybe getting either L lens or 5d mark ii still a safer choice just incase it doesn't work out well

pp/s: I'm not a rich kid just that I work my a$$ off for this type of situation... yeah I'm kinda do-it-all kinda guy... so I like to do a lot of things and get it to be perfect

I suggest u juz get lens for the moment...........
go brush up your skills 1st in the meantime...

why so hurry? when the time u can afford a 5D2 means u already can afford for one and understand your camera
*
.... thats the thing... I can finally afford it... just that the rules are no L lens for another 3 months or so... thinking of getting 24-70 l 2.8 usm..

been thinking about it since long before...

but maybe I am rushing sweat.gif

photography is often about preference.

we could share 101 things but in the end it's still you.

you're in a dilemma because you know some stuff but know not enough, or know enough of the things but neither paths are convincing enough for your or both paths being equally convincing.

my take is that you should just wait.

you're talking about 550D + L vs 5D2 + non-L, sounds like you have a budget constraint.

in fact you talk like you only have 1 path and forever you're stuck. biggrin.gif

i look at it, either way you go you're bound to upgrade something later.
*
So I should wait till I can afford 24-70 2.8L usm? lol I've been poisoning myself with alot of photography learning 24/7 sweat.gif maybe it is time for me to hit the games abit...

Thanks goldie, viking and redcross laugh.gif once again I made a fool out of myself doh.gif it sucks to be type A kinda guy sweat.gif

Going FF, meaning to say your 18-135 is gonna be useless. You'll have to fork out cash to get a FF body, not to forget a FF kitlens. These 2 things will kill your wallet. biggrin.gif
*
haha yeah... if only practical training can give some money in pocket would be good .... working for free + bossy technical depart + no working hour... if only I knew film industry are like this... I wouldn't waste my time being in one sweat.gif

@ComradeZ, 24-70mm f2.8L is my dream lens but I think il get the 24-105mm and some primes first, maybe upgrade to the 24-70mm later

huhu I'm a portrait kinda guy so I'll be making fast lens as my priority

ok since I put aside to my body camera upgrade.... thinking of at least upgrading the lens...

Thinking of only 2 choice... 17-55 IS USM or 24-70 L 2.8 USM and then maybe 2 580ex ii or 2 430ex ii for strobe purpose

some say 17-55 IS USM is far shaper than 24-70 L 2.8 and the other said the opposite. Some also said that these 2 doesn't worth the penny... so yeah, any of you guys got any idea? ...

what do you guys think?

P/S: i did my research a....lot.. still I need some input from experienced people in here.

Thanks in advance

Anyone can confirm this confusion? I've seen alot of reviews between 7d and 550d and it seems that 550d have a better noise control...? is this true?

Furthermore, it seems that when I look it back even at iso 800 my 550d can see the noise clearly.... I know that I shouldn't be pixel peeper.... but in order to obtain good image as in sharp image ... I need a good noise control ...

and is it possible that if the mirror is abit dusty... it will effect the outcome of the image?

the noise control difference would be so little that it doesn't matter.

you guys worry about the most petty of things.

Comradez, i think your expectation on noise could probably be at inhuman level. what exactly are you using those images for?

iso 800 can take nice clearly sharp images what.
*
that is why im asking if dusty could it be effecting the output of the image? because apparently... I'm seeing alot of noise at iso 800....

one of the image and this is after applying noise reduction.... iso 800

You juz said about apply noise reduction...means u can use it to take away the noise la
why do u still care much about noise? smile.gif
*
thats the problem... when using noise reduction can still see the noise on 27" samsung... even resize can still see it. Or is it true what goldie said about me? I mean the part that I'm like a machine who can see the pixel but nobody else does?

i've sent my photos for prints, for.......

a) clients to use on brochures, menu, wall posters, glass windows (which the clients are happy)
b) qualification application (which the judges are pleased)
c) competition (which i won)
d) other requests, usually 4R (which the people requesting it were pleased)
e) newspaper (it came out newspaper la hehe.)

sources vary from 6MP to 18MP, print sizes vary 4R to 4ft x 9ft, from ISO100 to ISO1600, and printing cost varying from RM 0.03 per square inch to RM 0.15 per square inch. smile.gif

the requirement varies, so what is your requirement that you need to pixel peep so hard until you're not satisfied and all?
*
lol nice... now I can be happy hehehehe

I mean if you can print some stuff, I can do the same. Thanks for the answers guys.

and thanks for the info... I'll try to enter competition sometimes. brows.gif rclxms.gif
