Apple & Linux is like oil & water.
Never mix together.Apple never encourage & sometime prevent open source development on their platform.
Microsoft on other hand don't exactly encourage open source but at same never prevent them either.

Remember unlike any other mobile OS in the market,Maemo is nearly a full blown linux based OS.Since most of the N900 users are linux fan or at very least likes it,it's formal for us to feel anti-apple.
It's nice to be used as guinea pig laugh.gif

Yeah i agree on Apple and Linux is like oil and water
But i feel for me in terms of memory distribution and usage is more efficient compared to Windows
that's what i feel..
but pricey.. i got my macbook pro free.. so why not ^^
But Linux is full of unexplored potential, something which i like..

You're correct on both part. But even shortening the pins it doesn't always work perfectly.

Well, for me reading flash drives are more than enough for me.It'll help me in plenty of ways when I'm inside campus.
But that doesn't mean I'll stop working on making h-e-n detec my ext-hds

nod.gif Internally both micro A & B is similar.

" The OTG cable has a micro-A plug on one side, and a micro-B plug on the other (it cannot have two plugs of the same type). OTG adds a fifth pin to the standard USB connector, called the ID-pin; the micro-A plug has the ID pin grounded, while the ID in the micro-B plug is floating. The device that has a micro-A plugged in becomes an OTG A-device, and the one that has micro-B plugged becomes a B-device. The type of the plug inserted is detected by the state of the pin ID . USB host - has more potential, storage and peripherals.

The USB port on the tablets is a USB OTG, this means that they can be switched between client- (where you plug the tablet into a computer—for flashing and mounting cards on the computer), and host- (where the tablet acts like a computer) mode with the correct hardware adaptor.

You can find a USB OTG adapter designed specifically for the N800 and the N810 (N810 owners will need to buy both adaptors until a custom N810 adaptor is manufactured). These OTG adaptors will automatically switch the tablet into host-mode when plugged in.

You can also buy a "dumb" adapter that will provide the correct connections, but will not automatically switch the tablet into host-mode from most online and some in-store retailers. Then you can simply switch into host-mode manually. "

in N800/N810

switching modes manually.

echo host > /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode

echo otg > /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode

- so the conclusion is, the funny looking microAB connector just facilitates auto switching from client mode to otg when connected.

- using normal cable you have to switch manually to OTG mode

About Micro A & B being similar, yes they are, but it's pertinent to note they are NOT the same. Even on the N810 with hardware enabled OTG, the Micro A cable is more reliable for USB host purposes.

Ugh, for some unknown reason I suddenly feel that using an N9 is gonna feel like using the N810 with it's huge screen and gila tiring keyboard. The N900 QWERTY is MILES better to type on.

@Jananan: supposedly, but there are many cases of the B cable not working and not detecting the attached USB device, even after manually switching (or using software).

Am gonna get a girl-on-girl adapter anyway tho, cause china mali cheap N8 OTG wires are still quite some time away, and A head cables maybe Sri don't have.

ACTUALLY: OTG = Automatic switching between client mode and host mode depending on what you poke it into (or what you poke into it).

That's why I put similar not same wink.gif

I feel N900 keyboard bit crampy.During my early days I used to make lots mistakes while typing. Now it better.
I think the extra space between the keys could have faster & more accurate typing.

i miss the qwerty keyboard on the e61i.

good sized keys, stable while typing with two hands. the n900 is somewhat unbalanced, top heavy.

was using the e61i a long time ago.

sold it to some forummer here....

Believe it or not,I actually never own any symbian device.Used plenty but never own 1.
Jumped to N900 from measly SE w580i

From my experience E6X & E7X series phone have too small keys at keyboard, something like N900.
But because of the size of the phone it's forgivable.

Anyone here pro at c/c++?

You sure about that? I'm typing on a four row keyboard with a centre spacebar... and missing the right side spacebar on the N900 keyboard. Sigh.

Grass is alwwya greener on the other side, no?

Doesn't help that they N810 keyboard is mushy.

I still prefers N900's keyboard. It's very similar to regular desktop computer keyboard key structure plus the spacebar at right side is good for fast typing & don't mess when typing with two hand.

Added on November 12, 2010, 11:13 pmhmmm i checked... got 5 wor.. so which means is still usable...... just have to cut to size... if you can wait.. droid x also have OTG... so may be able to use it... i believe its the same size... not squre...

Bricked kernel...

Download the PR 1.3 file - RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin
Info on how you can get it is available at frontpage.
Rename the file to R.bin & transfer the files to C:\Program Files\Maemo\flasher-3.5
Turn off you phone
Press "U" while plugging the microUSB cable to your phone
Open maemo flasher tool & execute the following command

CODE
C:\Program Files\maemo\flasher-3.5>flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R

Your phone should be booting up in less than 10sec.

Follow my method.
It should restore your phone to the default omap kernel.
After booting up you can go to app manager/fapman to download v42(the most stable up to date).make sure you disable extra-devel or else you'll download v45 instead.
