yes it shorter than around 3 cm but it is still ok...if u have money then go for u3 with 3 fan up to 17 inch if not wrong
*
But U3 can't be fitted into a 15.6" laptop backpack right?
What a dilemma... as I wanted to bring the cooler together with the laptop...

I was also wondering about cooler pad , do you guys think it is better to get one of those with single 12 cm fans , or better to have 3 or 2 fans?

many people suggest Cooler Master U3 , but I am thinking doesn't a 12 cm fan move more air around , and it must be quieter than the cooler pads with many fans right ???? but I have no experience with that?

I guess it's really down to personal preference.

I like CM U series because it's highly portable and fans can be added later.
Yeah, having too many fans might cause noise issue.

I've also looked at those with a single huge fan (12/14cm etc) but it hardly appeals me in looks and portability.

I originally planned to get the XPS 15 without OS and install Ubuntu with it.
So, I have done some simple research for drivers.
Even if ubuntu failed to recognize GT435M, driver can be easily obtained from NVIDIA so no worry.
Download link for 32-bit: LINUX DISPLAY DRIVER - X86
Download link for 64-bit: LINUX X64 (AMD64/EM64T) DISPLAY DRIVER
For Intel 6200/6300 wireless adapter, refer to Intel's wireless projects for Linux

Too bad, buying from Dell online must have the OS installed.
So, I decided to go if Win 7 and run ubuntu in Virtual Machines rather than a clean install for the time being.

thanks for the links . I looked at the Ubuntu forum , people were talking about the problems they have with XPS 15 when they use it with Ubuntu OS , such as webcam doesn't work , brightness adjustment works , and stuff like that, I think better to run it on virtual machine like you said for now until the problems get sorted , I wish Dell would have put out drivers for Linux that would have been so much easier unsure.gif , you can check it out here at this link. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1618801&page=3

Thanks for the link.
I've not go into minor details such as webcam, brightness adjustment, etc when I planned on using ubuntu on XPS 15.
I assumed that ubuntu would be able to take care of these easily other than drivers for components such as GC or WiFi.
Well, I guess Dell forcing me to use Win 7 for the time being isn't really that bad until ubuntu community manage to solve these issues.

The hugeness of the CM NotePal U3 really makes it hard to fit in laptop bag...
420 x 320 x 65 mm

If I buy that that means I will have a hard time fitting it into a bag to carry aorund

For XPS 15 alone, a 15.6" bag would fit nicely.
For XPS 15 and U2, 16.4" and or greater might do the trick
For XPS 15 and U3, you have to live with limited number of overly huge, ugly and heavy bags for 18" and above
