@schwarzschild: Yup, it's max at 4457 (inclusive of the RM10 DVD media... Dell is getting more evil nowadays).

@J.J: Ahaha, it is good to get a DVD media. If you want faster startup time, better reinstall windows 7 and install only necessary drivers, Dell quickset, and webcam software. Make sure you have created factory restore discs (2 DVDs required) before format your laptop smile.gif
*
Thanks for the advice.
Personally, if the startup time isn't really that bad, prefer not to reformat.
My youngest bro recently bought Vostro 3400 isn't really that bloated, the overall startup consider acceptable for me.
Lets see how bloated Dell factory OS installation can be for XPS 15.

u call to the dell center? the price is including 3 years complete cover warranty?
*
That price includes the standard XPS 1 year complete cover warranty only.
3 years complete cover for XPS requires additional rm699.

QUOTE(thieflord @ Nov 27 2010, 09:34 PM)
sandy bridge cores arent much different compared to arrandale cores.. for mobile cores of course
but for desktops its a huge difference, so there's no harm getting arrandale cores
i mean if u compare arrandale cores with sandy bridge cores,

take i5 540m which is clocked at 2.53 and turbo to 3.06,  the closest sandy bridge core to the arrandale 1
is i5 2520m which is 2.5 at basic speed and 3.2 turbo (only 0.6 ghz faster) and i5 2540 2.6/3.3 turbo

doesnt make much of a difference and plus, new = expensive

however for the i7 models, sandy bridge is significantly faster compared to arrandale but the cons is faster = hotter
i'd prefer a cooler i5 arrandale than wait my life for expensive new sandy bridge cores..

and if u hate xps 15, why are u even here?
*
The true benefit of Sandy Bridge is actually its i7 quad cores variants.
They have the same rated TDP of 45 watts as Clarksfield i7 but that rated TDP actually includes an integrated graphics sub system as well.
Therefore, Sandy Bridge quad cores can work without having to rely on discrete graphics which is a great boost in battery life for mobile quad core computing.

if GT435M then should be ok..
but 420 is a no no..
*
There's a trade off now...
Dell only allow GT435M to go with i7 and GT420M for i5
Therefore, you must sacrifice power efficiency or better performance.

I ordered mine on the 29th, its only been 3 days and im already itching for it. Plus, dell says it may take UP TO 3 days to give me an estimated delivery date. It has been 3 days, still nothing sad.gif
*
Cool, you and I ordered on the same day rclxms.gif
And, my status is still work in progress.
I guess my EDD will only be available on 6th Dec since Sat and Sun is weekend.
Unless miracle happens on Friday.
Really looking forward to getting the XPS.

Complete Cover - warranty option that covers even accidental damages. e.g. water spilled on the laptop.
Without that the warranty will only cover manufacturer defects.

For example,
3-year XPS Premier Service with 1-year CompleteCover - So within the 1st year, you will enjoy the benefit of warranty coverage for both manufacturer defects and accidental damages. 2nd year onwards, you only get the coverage of manufacturer defects.
3-year XPS Premier Service with 3-year CompleteCover - You will enjoy the benefit of warranty coverage for both manufacturer defects and accidental damages for full 3 years.

need some comment.. better upgrade screen or RAM?
1. 15.6 FHD (1920x1080) B+RGLED display with TrueLife™ [add RM 411.00 or RM 34/month-1]

2.8GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 4G) (operates at 1066MHZ for Core i5 processors) [add RM 400.00 or RM 33/month-1]

TQ
*
Screen is a better choice (unless you are against cramming 1920 * 1080 pixels on such a small screen)
RAM is easily upgradeable after purchase

Hi J.J,
Just one more question.  For the Manufacturer Warranty, will the Dell Technician comes on-site or we will need to send it back to their Service Center?

1. Try Dell Online Chat deal with the sales agent
2. Look for any of your friends/relatives who work in Dell to purchase using employee price

does this unit supports switching the graphic card  ? i see the pikom is around the corner, im still thinking want to buy it now or not. evertyime the pc fair start, new technologies come, old spec price drop, just worried after getting this unit the new techs come, it will be a huge lost @@
*
Switchable graphics only for i5 + GT420M
GT435M must go with i7 so not switchable

Sandy Bridge will launch on January 5, 2011. (Desktop variants)
Mobile will be later somewhere in 1st quarter.

one question, if i installed ntune.. is optimus still working?
because thr r many pple claiming that u cant update the driver frm nvidia website as optimus might not working...must download from dell website one....
*
I'm not sure about that but I supposed Optimus implementation is manufacturer dependent thus requiring driver from Dell.
Hope that someone is willing to enlighten us.

--------------------------------------------------

A great surprise from Dell, they updated my order status
Current Status: Manufacturing build completed
Estimate Delivery Date: 09-Dec-2010
