I'm not sure about that but I supposed Optimus implementation is manufacturer dependent thus requiring driver from Dell.
Hope that someone is willing to enlighten us.

A great surprise from Dell, they updated my order status
Current Status: Manufacturing build completed

Switchable graphics only for i5 + GT420M
GT435M must go with i7 so not switchable

*
According to the Nvidia website the GT435 M does come with Optimus technology , which means you can get switchable graphics on i7 Dell XPS 15 models also,

here is the link to Nvidia website smile.gif :

It's not switchable in Dell's case as they only bundled i7 quad core with GT435M.

I see,

I ordered the core i7 model , Do you think Dell XPS 15 is compatible with Ubuntu ? I mean will the wifi card or the graphic card give me trouble with Ubuntu for drivers and stuff?

Does anybody know why they don't offer the Dell XPS 17 in Malaysia ?

Out of curiosity is it possible to order Dell laptops from other country Dell website (Dell XPS 17) and have it delivered to Malaysia?? has anybody done that

^You can't use your nVidia in Ubuntu/Linux, since Optimus need to use API in Windows 7...
So you will be stuck with just Intel HD if using Linux...

Yes, you can order from other country Dell's, but it will only send to that country, you will need other person in that country to send it to you...

Oh I see that is great rclxms.gif

one more question what is this option all about I saw on dell website "Anodized Aluminium LCD Back Cover (for WWAN/6300 wireless/Tv tuner)" for WWAN does it mean we can put simcard inside the laptop and straightway use Wireless broadband , what does WWAN mean here ?

That only means it has the additional antenna needed for WWAN/6300 Wireless/Tv tuner (or at least what I understand), you still need the WWAN module if want to use the sim card...

glad to know my hd5650 still has a place to stand in the mobile GPU world.
