initial package price was RM1.4k (1 nite stay - 1 bed room, normal delivery, without any other method/assistant like vacuum and so on), then plus this and add on that, so end up... RM2.4k, as expected. haha

2007: Joe maternity Clinic Ampang. RM4K++ emergency C-section, single room, meal, Enflac formula milk, pills etc. Service was terrible, but surgery was OK. 5D/4N
Husband wad allowed to visit from 8am to 11pm. No ICU.

2009: GH Penang. Deposite RM1600 but actual price 1200 for planned C-section, single room first class, meal, baby's care, meal, pills etc. Service is good and nurses - are well educated and with good english (especially chinese). 5D/4N

I'm going to have my 2nd baby soon at Pantai Hospital Cheras. I can't remember the exact total amount i paid the first time having my boy, but it was roughly RM3K.
I had my own room, normal birth, the light for my baby cuz he had yellow skin. thats about it. No epidural etc...

I asked my doc again today about the prices, he told me between RM2300 - RM2800 (depending on what class, like single room, 4 bed shared etc.)
But thats without the extra charges. Hopefully it wont be very expensive, cuz i really dont think this country should charge so much for child birth. My mum told me if i gave birth in NZ (where she's staying) it will be free.

Been reading this thread for all the good info. Has anyone tried Tung Shin hospital?

My wifey EDD is around 3rd/4th week of Jan next year. CNY rates / doc availability worries me a lot.

Was thinking to go for HUKM Cheras, Glenmarie Ampang or Serdang. But I think I need to go do a proper survey on the pricing & quality personally. I'm staying in Cheras btw.

Pantai Medical Cheras will be my last resort, due to the expensive fees. Still remember my appendix op, both parents' dengue stay, wifey's dengue stay as well. Horrible charges rclxub.gif

This lady told me she had her baby at HUKM, the price was around the RM500 one. Not sure ... but she said that the NURSES delivered her baby and NOT the doctor.
When i heard that i was abit ummm.. speechless. Of course there are nurses out there who learn and know how to deliver a baby. But to me, i would prefer a qualified doctor to deliver my baby.
It's also best if the doctor delivering your baby is the gynae you have been seeing all the months during pregnancy, as he or she knows most about you/ your wife, baby and your/ wifes body.
Also steer clear or doc's who insist you go for c-sections. Unless you really need it, it's best u go for natural births. Some doc's just want the extra money, cuz well... c-sections cost more.

Who knows what could go wrong... i dont know, but i think spending a little extra money on the mother and babys safety is more important than saving and looking for cheaper alternatives.
Of course not everyone has the money to spend since delivering a baby is very expensive at most places. But who ever said that having a baby/ babies was cheap right...
Im not trying to put down or criticize anyone for going to non private hospitals, clinics or GH (cheapest i think) Im just saying, if u have the money, dont think twice, if money is a problem, then there isnt really much choice.
In the end... like i said, having a baby is not cheap, neither is raising a baby>>> child. So do be prepared for everything thats ahead.

agreed... like nowadays, husband are smoking, cost around >RM250 per month, using smart phone that cost >RM1k, shopping using credit card >RM200 per month, your perfume cost >RM150, not even include sport rims, car sound system, car body kit, LCD TV, home theater, handbags, expensive clothes and watches.... in will sum up tp thousands.... all those item are categorize as LUXURIOUS.... and during labor, some might search for BUDGET... it is not fair for the wife and the baby..... but if your entire life was in the budget mode, then, you are being fair to the family...... just my 10cent.....

Wife gave birth at our hometown Sitiawan, Yeak Maternity. Shop lot type, no full hospital facilities.

normal delivery from rm1700.

natural birth(vacumn) + painkiller labour + 2D/1N (4room) = rm2650
no food provided

Not exactly 'cheap' considering a small town

beg to differ with some of the points here. My wife was giving birth in HUKM, yes, there was nurse who handled the normal birth for my wife but i believe she is qualified to do so. Not least, plenty of medical practitioners on the spots too. If you told me the nurse will handle the c-sec, then only i will starting to worry, not to say that there is doctor who were on the spot too to monitor the situations. smile.gif

if you are looking gynae who eventually the only one to help you for the whole pregnancy process, then your only choice is private hospital or engage a private doctor. This is not the case for GH smile.gif

as for cheap or expensive, does it mean expensive = safety, ponder on it. may be you might not aware that if some serious case happen in private hospital, they can still refuse your admission and ask you to go GH instead, why they do so? may be because they don't want to take the risk or their equipments are not to the par for serious case. smile.gif

having said that, the doctor's in the private clinic who we visited for routine check up told us that his hospital won't accept emergency admission for pregnancy below 36 weeks, does it mean they only welcome healthy and trouble free maternal? smile.gif

Unfortunately, most private clinics that have delivery service will flatly tell you, they will refuse to deliver any complicated pregnancy. In other words, they want hassle free delivery. I'm not incline to believe 100% in they do not possess complete equipment. Probably they don't want any complications that may affect their reputation.
As for nurses that deliver babies, I think most GH do this for normal deliveries after doctors certified that its time. Afterall, in the old time, its mid-wife, not doctors that deliver babies.
My only reservation about GH is they have too many trainee doctors that don't have experience who do not what to do when there's complication. A friend's baby end up lack of oxygen due to the doctor unsure whether to do caesarean. When the experience doc came, he instruct to op immediately, but its too late, the baby end up can't cry at all, which is not a good sign. Till now the kid is ard 4 but still cannot eat properly & a bit 'slow'. The best part is, the hospital got worried and ask the couple which is less educated to sign letter indemnify the hospital and doctors before releasing the baby

Agree with you both. Everyone comes from all walks of life, different wants and needs.

But i wasn't saying that expensive = safety at all, sorry if what i wrote was misunderstood. I've also experienced bad treatment in a private/ expensive hospital. Tis why i will not go back there, even if it's just for a small matter.
I didn't know about this " if you are looking gynae who eventually the only one to help you for the whole pregnancy process, then your only choice is private hospital or engage a private doctor. This is not the case for GH smile.gif " -So thanks for pointing that out smile.gif

Even if you have a lot of money, but your situation is very serious, they will still request you go to GH, cuz they have all the advanced gears and equipments. So i'm definitely not saying that if you have/ or don't have the money dont go here or there and vice versa etc. What i mean is that everyone should be wise and choose carefully when having a baby, the money needed to support, choosing a gynae/ doc, clinic, hospital etc.

Sometimes if you feel that the doc/ gynae that you are seeing is not right for you and doesn't match what you require, it's best to change i guess.
