Hmm, i just left mine and when i got back ( i was doing other things) it was done. I think it takes a while. Your number/sms was verified right ?
Which version did you download ? I got the 2.1 beta.

Doesn't matter 3G or GSM/Edge. That little icon will always appear. Disconnect it and few seconds later the N8 will establish a new connection.
Though it doesn't seem to drain battery life, it's a minor annoyance.
The only way I got rid of it was to change home data to "only WLAN", and then disconnect the wlan connection once it got connected.
This way no 3G/E icon appears and no packet/data connection is established.

Satisfied with the battery life so far. Definitely an improvement from my last phone.

mod the n8 cam like 25fps to 30fps for hd recording, 1mb to 11mb decompression picture for better quality pictures

Dah..It's well known that Apple is money sucking company.
iPhone still ok because maybe they are trying to spend the profit to cover the R&D but they really suck money with desktop & laptops macs.
