Anybody experiencing the Packet data (Edge/3G) always downloading/showing the E or 3G d/l icon ? Checking in the connection manager shows it's from my Celcom MMS connection, though no data is actually transferred. Disconnect it and after a few seconds it re-appears again. No MMS messages coming in of course. I had to change the Destination settings to "only wlan" at home location for it to completely disappear. There's no WLAN AP defined currently (not yet) but i'll try later when i connect it to my house wifi.

any1 know how to view the mass memory in N8 itself ?
*
There's a memory app from the Ovi store called Memory Status. Shows any and all memory in your N8 (including any inserted Micro SD).

the wikireader app seems unstable too. Caused one of the homescreen customizations to be reset (an error message on widget not installed properly or something).

On OVI crashes, so far so good. But i did update the OVI app though (it asked to download an update when i first accessed it).

Any idea/update why 3G/Packet data still downloads even when there's nothing going on and set to "always Ask" in the Settings.

Like some of you, my N8 also always connects to 3G/GSM (depending on what mode I set to, dual band or GSM only).
While it doesn't download anything (check the up/down counter in Connection Status) it gets annoying.
I have no widgets or push email that needs to connect, so still puzzled why it's always connected.

Thankfully battery life so far hasn't suffered from it. Charged till full last night (around midnight) and it's still at full bars now.
I did some calls, many sms, some web browsing, camera, and downloaded whatsapp and it's still full bar.

Whatsapp is pretty cool. One year of free sms via data/packet network. For those with unlimted data plans, it's another option for texting and chatting.

Another power saving tip: When you are idling/going off to bed, tap the battery icon and activate power saving mode.

power saving mode can save a lot?
*
I believe so, it is afterall called "power saving" mode. smile.gif

Does the 3G sign have a little forward-backward arrow below it?
*
Yup. 3G or Edge @ E. All have that fwd/bw arrow. Means it's connected. Check your connection status though to see if any data is transferred.
For me, there's none (unless I actually use the Internet or download stuff of course).

hey man, at the part after the sms verification, i kept getting the conn. failed access denied thing and initialization fails. doesnt go through no matter how many times i retry. any ideas?
*
Hmm, i just left mine and when i got back ( i was doing other things) it was done. I think it takes a while. Your number/sms was verified right ?
Which version did you download ? I got the 2.1 beta.

I'm aware of that, thats why I asked, haha. Mine doesn't have arrows at all as well. So your issue is that you're under 3G coverage? It doesn't really drain your battery unless your using it, no?  hmm.gif
*
Doesn't matter 3G or GSM/Edge. That little icon will always appear. Disconnect it and few seconds later the N8 will establish a new connection.
Though it doesn't seem to drain battery life, it's a minor annoyance.
The only way I got rid of it was to change home data to "only WLAN", and then disconnect the wlan connection once it got connected.
This way no 3G/E icon appears and no packet/data connection is established.

Battery performance update:

Full charge on 16th Oct 12.00midnight. After full charge, <10 sms, <5 calls, ~10 minutes web browsing on wifi

17th Oct usage: < 5 pics @ 12mp and xenon, web browsing @ 30mins on wifi, <15 calls, ~30sms, 1 hour 20 minutes non stop mp3 via headset, bluetooth car handsfree (myvi built-in) ~30 minutes

Now at 50% (tap the battery icon, then click again on battery, it will show you the % left). <10 calls, <15 sms, bluetooth hands free @ 50 minutes (Monday morning jam)

I'd say with "normal" usage it matches one of the reviews at 2 days and quite possibly stretching into the 3rd day. Personally, it meets my requirements.
