QUOTE(wan662 @ Jan 2 2009, 02:06 PM) I Already download dat ubuntu.file type is winrar archive.my question is need to extract or just burn ot to my cd??? It should be an ISO file. I guess u have to extract the rar file & should end up with an ISO file like this: ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.isosorry not so good enough in english.can i speak bm sikit?? You then have to burn the ISO to a CD. Remember to Burn as CD image, don't just put the ISO file into the CD. Once you have the CD, just boot the CD up from any PC and go through the guide to make a USB Flash Disk. Sorry man, I can't speak a single sentence in BM. |

QUOTE(ongte @ Jan 1 2009, 10:56 PM) Well, looks like support for this chip is a little iffy. You found the answer in the forum, Unloading the module before shutdown 'should' fix it. ThanksThis will not be easy though. But this is how to do it. $ hwinfo --sound Look for the line that says "Driver Modules", this will tell you which module is being used. On my machine it's "snd_hda_intel" so I'll use this in my example. $ sudo gedit /etc/init.d/halt Goto the end of the script. There's a section that looks like this: CODE stop) do_stop ;; *) Insert a line into it like this: (substitute my module for yours if it's different) CODE stop) modprobe -r snd_hda_intel do_stop ;; *) If that still doesn't work. Then I suggest you comment in the bug report & badger them to fix it. i cant find correct device because some of the devices are unclassified mayb my lapbie is not suitable for ubuntu |

What I meant in previous post is in Kubuntu (KDE in Ubuntu)... not Gnome... But anyway, I plan to make my Kubuntu full of widget on Desktop, don't want Desktop Icon anymore... |

QUOTE(tan_pang @ Jan 3 2009, 03:09 PM) What I meant in previous post is in Kubuntu (KDE in Ubuntu)... not Gnome... I was an avid Kubuntu user. But I stopped using Kubuntu when I got my Macbook. But anyway, I plan to make my Kubuntu full of widget on Desktop, don't want Desktop Icon anymore... A few days back I tried to install the latest Kubuntu on my sister's PC, and I didn't like it. I really don't feel comfortable with the new KDE 4. It feels like using Vista, you know. Flashy but you got lost. So I figure out to sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop and I started to love Gnome that I used to hate. |

I find KDE a little 'buggy' and a resource hog. Gnome looks plain but it's very stable and I find customizing it easier than KDE.

QUOTE(wan662 @ Jan 4 2009, 11:35 AM) The file you downloaded should be called something like ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.isoThis is an ISO file or disc image, not a Winrar or Winzip file. You need to burn this ISO to a blank CD or DVD. For Nero, follow these steps. Steps to create a CD if you have installed Nero - Burning ROM: Download the ISO CD image to a folder on your computer. Insert a blank CD in your CD-RW drive. Start Nero Burning. Follow the wizard steps to select Data CD creation. When the wizard closes, click Burn Image on the File menu. In the Open dialog box, select the ISO file, and then click Open. In the wizard, click Burn to write the image to the CD. You could also refer to the Ubuntu Wiki page. Follow those guides and you'll be on your way. Good luck Actually, if you prefer to use Malay, you could also go to Ubuntu Malaysia. The site and its users mainly use Malay, so might be a better source of help if you're more comfortable with that. This post has been edited by Cannonfodder: Jan 4 2009, 01:40 PM |
