actually are there any noticable difference using ALSA or PULSE audio renderer under ubuntu ? can't seem to differentiate neither... unsure.gif
*
basically since 8.04, alsa is just a proxy for pulse(like workaround for their transition to pulseaudio), basically u just need to select automatic, n let the config file does the rest, unless u wan2 specific cause of some issue with softwares

Hi,

I'm a total noob who had just installed ubuntu 8.1 due to getting sick of WAGs WGAs. I've installed my ubuntu on my old comp which was connected to the same router with my new pc. Through the new pc with vista business, I made a workgroup mshome for home networking. On vista, I can see the ubuntu pc but can't access it more or so the shared folder from it. The most important problem for me is on my ubuntu pc, I can't even see my vista pc. Under places >windows network >mshome my vista pc doesn't showed up (this part right here baffles me since most of the troubleshooting i've read on the net and everywhere occurs no problem). I've tried smb://vista pc's ip address, but still doesn't work. i just need to read my files from my vista pc on my ubuntu. hope somebody can help. thanks.

to properly change mountpoint, not just edit the folder name...perhaps u can try to check out ur /etc/fstab for more info on your partition, u can use console, type in sudo gedit /etc/fstab

I'm not sure i understand. But the folders on Vista was been able to use on the when i'm using win xp. But now I upgraded to ubuntu 8.1 ibix (dual boot). I did not alter the settings on the vista folders. the problem is ubuntu can't even see my vista computer.

should I manually adjust network settings to get into mshome network or ubuntu automatically done this?

hmm usually ubuntu do it automatically, perhaps u can try to check if samba is installed, use package manager, search for samba or smb, if its not installed, install it

Not sure bout samba4 but if the command still available like previous samba try use this :
$smbclient -L vista_ip
$findsmb

See whether got some result or not!
