hmm, ok... i planned to install ubuntu/mint on my other hdd... how big is the comfort level to install linux?
p/s: and what' the diff btw ext3 and swap partition?
for my last setup, whole system just takes less than 4gb of space, these includes office softwares, n other essentials for productivity. then i create another partition for my home folder, so when i reformat or upgrade, my settings will remain. p/s: and what' the diff btw ext3 and swap partition?
as for swap, if ur system memory is less than 2gb, create a swap with around 512mb is more than enough. ext3 n swap r partition format, like windows' ntfs/fat32. swap is windows' virtual memory but in linux its optional, without it wont crash ur os, its advice to have at least 512mb if ur ram is less than 2gb. other partition just use ext3.
so for your reference,
1. ur /(also called root) partition u can make it 5gb~10gb, up to u, as i just use around 4gb for full system included all those codecs n shits u needs to run things or watch movies
2. then create a swap space for like 256mb~512mb.
3. the rest just create and mount as /home so all ur downloaded stuff can put in there safely without worry about reformatting ur os or anything screw up in ur system partition. this is the space that u can change stuff, n not really related to ur system's operation. for storage
