Added on November 9, 2010, 5:21 pmDo you guys use drum mat ? My floor is wooden ones and I dont really like the kick pedal because there's some vibration each time I kick
*
I have a thick carpet to decrease the vibration and also increase friction so that the drums don't move alot. nod.gif

But have to vacuum it frequently.

So an E-kit with hoops and tuning like an acoustic drum is the best.

With band mates la. Without those headphones, all the klepet klepet sound for sure will spoil the mood. Unless you play loud. wink.gif
But sometimes when I'm alone, I connect mp3 player to the mixer and then play my cover version of the song. I also connect metronome into the mixer while playing with band for practice. So the guitarist, bassist, voc and drummer can hear the click clearly thru headphones. It has been a good way for our band to practice...so far
*
This is pretty cool and economic. nod.gif

Pretty easy for recording too.

They look and sound like ZBTs, which honestly I don't find that horrible (the hats at any rate, the rides and crashes I wouldn't even look at).
*
Are those worth buying? I'm looking into a cymbals set currently.

QUOTE(treflip @ Nov 16 2010, 08:19 PM)
the ride and the hats used at the Arkstudios are the zxt series...but the crashes are Zildjian avedis...

but then again...no matter what cymbals or hi hats you use...it will only sound good when the player is good and if they know how and where to hit the sweet spot ;-) if you know what i mean...
*
Sweet spot is the factor, but still I have developed feelings for the sound.

So I might be getting those hats and just play it with the feeling. nod.gif

*
Mm ZBT hats, I think I'm gonna buy those. laugh.gif

Then Paiste + TRX cymbals for the rest.

I heard there's this Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera that could also record acoustic sounds.

Well, budget enough.

Do it. Don't let others convince you that any brand or type of cymbal is better than the other... let your ears be the guide.
*
Don't worry I'm a strong Zildjian lover currently. laugh.gif

Btw, back then in 2003. This guy is pretty much a beast already.

Hmm... Most new sets don't come with cymbals. you can check out the Pearl Soundcheck, and I could throw in a set of Zildjian ZBTs, Sabian SBRs or Meinl HCSs for you and a ride and a crash stand.

Dude PM best price for ZBT hats please. rclxms.gif

Hi...

after spend few hours i finally finished read all the threads for v3 25pages  rclxm9.gif huhuhu (how long la i'l take if i read v1 n v2 as well?LOL) but every thread is worthy to read..

anyway....im a beginner n just start learn play drum 2-3months ago.thinking of getting my own gear,at 1st lookin for acoustic drum but after read all the threads here seem the e-drum not that bad as a beginner for me in purpose of get my skill 1st.

seems u guys less talk bout yamaha drum....
need opinion here from the gurus here,as beginner is it worthy if i invest for yamaha custom stage or go for other brand n model for my 1st kit which not that pricey?my teacher not helping me much as she keep promote me custom stage n the fact i am yamaha student duhhh...but custom stage sound great as i only tried with 3 dffrnt drum model so far (dont ask me wat model coz i can remember) huhuhu
*
If you go for E-drum then you cannot try out the acoustic tuning and changing the stuffs lor. nod.gif

But you can record the stuff you play, set a volume and you can choose what type of kit sound you want in an E-drum. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yamaha Stage Custom? Never heard of it, I've played a Rydeen kit before, after changing the heads it's so nice. wub.gif

A lower grade first kit is okay, it's just that you have to fork out money if you wanna upgrade a kit. nod.gif

myb coz i start with that model so make me fussy with the sound (ngengada la pl hehehe) rather develop my foundation skill 1st.my teacher said YSC can cost 6k for birch 5pieces (price for yamaha student she claimed la) but plus the cymbals+throne it can up to figure u said huhuhu

n yea,my concern i might stop playin it (wish i hv strong will...chaiyok for myself).u hv idea how much others yamaha model (cheaper standard than YSC) can b?any around 4k ka for basic 5pieces?

or u can generously recommend me any brand n model at any reasonable(+cheapest) price that suit for beginner that:
-need 5pieces,HH,CC n RC only
-material:wood n skin used less concern as long can produce good sound
-main purpose is for practising
-in practical wise....i think can b arrange if its acoustic set (grin with evil face lookin at my bro's unused room hohoho)
-if possible come with on site tutorial how to tune it wahahaha this can include in request ka?  blush.gif
agree bout the e-drum coz its totally gv different feeling hitting it compare to acoustic hehehe  cool2.gif  even i just try 3 dffrnt models so far it does effect my mood to play n yea im lookin forward to customize my own gear when i 'affortable n capable' LOL

but e-drum seems hv advantage on me.im not keen on the recording funct (for now) but the environment.now i just practise by hitting pillows n my mum still can hear from next room  doh.gif  imagine if i hv acoustic drum for real...cant imagine actually huhuhu plus im thinking practise using e-drum at home n bang acoustic during my class ngeh3
AhBoy,help me ehh to define n understand the different of low end drum n high end drum...newbie la katakan hehehe i dont hv proper knowledge bout drum yet especially technical stuff (n the terms u guy using) even i hv teacher.all got from net...thanks to today technology LOL  rclxms.gif
*
AhBoy? Aw *blush* LOL !

Well, low end or high end, it depends on the way you judge it, price wise, performance wise, etc.

For me, every drum kits that is around 4-5k ++ is medium high to high end already. nod.gif

But try not to limit your view to just Yamaha. I suggest brands like Tama, Pearl and Ludwig. I still trust these brands most. nod.gif

Pearl Forum FZ Series

PROS
- Better Tom sounds with ISS mounting system by Pearl
- Good overall looks
- Very strong build quality of hardwares to drums
- Very very good P120P single pedal that comes with the package

CONS
- Quite limited sound you can get from stock stuffs
- ISS mounting system has two holders for both toms so quite hard to adjust to liking

Very objective Pros and Cons here. nod.gif

hahaha...funny la u.that was refer to a LYN member name AhBoy  tongue.gif  but if u want i can call u with that name n real AhBoy dont mind hehehe naaaa,i gv u new name la franklooi...'DrumChai' want meh? LOL

ok,enuf tu iklan....so thr is medium high end la pula huhuhu performance wise wats the dffrnt?does the drum technology also count?
i really dont want to limit myself to Yamaha but i hv limited source here.i wish can hear n look other brand of drum for real but i dont know any other drummers here (my friends more to guitar n keyboard) plus i myself dunno if Sandakan hv music instrument shop here beside my music school huhuhu  cry.gif  any LYN mmbr from here ka or Sabahan maybe?

ok,let says for Tama, Pearl n Ludwig....what current model of them will suggested for beginner?is Mapex ok?saw its black phanter snare kinda cool  drool.gif but dunno how the sound since all sound record of it on Youtube i heard was horrible...blame on the recording device i guess huhuhu
*
The way you quote. sweat.gif

Normally higher end drums involve more technology.

Mapex? Well it's so-so economical. Not that I'm against it, but it's a quite new established company compared to Pearl, Tama and etc. My tutor told me that they copied the same build structure from Pearl and Tama.

*
Check for possible dents and cracks, everywhere on the cymbal. nod.gif

If can, you hit the crash and ride, not too hard but hard enough to test it's toughness.

Drumshield wow. Never heard of it. doh.gif

Btw I'm using those RM 9 yellow acoustic foam earplugs, it blocks the high frequency soundwaves, sometime I like the sound after the filtration.

But the bad thing is that it's too soft that when you fit in your ears it shrinks easily. nod.gif
