Yes, Yamaha sales at Beatspot outlets & HQ. I think they are clearing out the current stock. Not that sure if the sale is still going on or over. Cymbals mostly at 70%, hardwares at 30%. Not much item left tho. Call each outlet for more info. I went to Midvalley and HQ. Lots of Manhattan Jazz. 2 rides in Midvalley and 1 hihat at HQ. I grabbed the last pair of HHX Stage hats at HQ, still a pair of HHX Manhattan Jazz hats when I left. Someone managed to arrive faster than me and bought a Jojo Mayer ride, a 20 inch Artisan, another cymbal, and the most amazing buy for Steve Gadd snare. Should have been there sooner, dang!

isaacmiranda7 : Location? Looks interesting.

Secret Choong : Where did you buy the omnis?

Aiyak D: If its still on this Friday then I can go, exams now smile.gif

Hmm, this was in Malacca smile.gif Why? Thoughts on the setup? Honestly, that's the best setup I've played on which was not a rack. biggrin.gif Super comfortable. tongue.gif

Hello all, any drum covers or solo or anything from LYN?

A few of us have done stuff lah, but since the Temp. Drummers Paradise, pretty much 90% of the people who come to the Drummer's Paradise have changed, so I think most of the stuff is there biggrin.gif

Seeing as I live in a condo, I don't get to use my own set much, apart from recordings and some gigs, where I take bits and pieces of the set along.

But since you asked, this is pretty much my own kit (drums lah, I use more cymbals everywhere else smile.gif)

user posted image

Ludwig Epic Funk with a Pearl Steel Piccolo

Features 20”x22” Kick, 8"x12", 7.5"x10", and 7"x8” Toms and a 15”x16” Floor Tom.
I sold the original snare without using it smile.gif

With Sabian AAX Stage Ride and Stage Crash along with HHX Stage Hats.

One of my more recent setups can be seen in the previous page with full details. Tama Superstar w/two rack toms, two floor toms and two snares, and lots of cymbals.

user posted image

From left to right (Sabian unless stated): HHX Stage Hats 14', AAXplosion Crash 15', AAX Stage Crash 16', Stagg DH Splash 8' over AA MiniChinese 12', AAX Stage Ride 20', Zildjian ZBT Crash 16'.

Kit: Tama Superstar Hyperdrive with the usual Iron Cobras. Snares are a old Pearl Forum snare and my Pearl Piccolo, with a scooped tone. The Superstar snare was just too.. I dunno lah. Didn't blend smile.gif

A kit that I use often live (no pictures at the moment, will upload soon) is a Tama Swingstar Japan (old tongue.gif) with 4 rack toms and one floor tom, along with 3 Zildjian A Custom/A Crashes and A Custom Hats and Ride.

user posted image

This was my recording setup. PDP 805 and all Sabian AAXs except for the HHX hats and a Paragon Ride (out of picture)

Anyway, I use Tama Iron Cobra Rolling Glides for my double pedals. biggrin.gif

I listen to a lot of progressive and metal nowadays (again!) but have a more open playing style.

When I session for bands, I rent/borrow kits according to the style of the band and add in whatever I feel is necessary to blend in, and I only use my own if absolutely necessary (packing+transportation is sleep.gif).

I use mainly Sabian AAXs and HHXs with one or two other cymbals thrown in when I need them. (or when they are around) No such thing as too many cymbals wink.gif

treflip, that DW snare of yours arrived already? How are you planning on getting the kit? Personally, I would just go for the Performance shell pack. Unless you have a lot to spend, by all means, go for something better.

Anyone here uses any remote hi hat?
*
I use a remote hat SOMETIMES if there's space/time to set one up for gigs, for example, if its a 4 piece set, or the cymbals can be positioned in a strategic place that does not interfere with my regular setup lah.

QUOTE(treflip @ Mar 15 2011, 02:28 PM)
hopefully the snare will arrive latest by end of the month...and for the collector's series set im thinking of all maple sehlls but also considering the eco-x...planning in getting from online music store, or ebay, or last resort JS music...my vocalist has set up budget for drums around RM13k (not including cymbals)..hehehhe...but as for my set im using only 4 piece kit so wont be as expensive as those standard 5 piece or 7 piece kit =)

but somehow the performance series seems interesting...and also a friend of mine (Faizal Tahir's drummer) said that certain tone coming from the tom aint that awesome as compared to the DW collector's series...but then again it comes down to personal taste so yeah hehehe...but the aesthetic value of the performance series is aint that awesome since it is made in Mexico but build quality and all is still DW standard =) so it is a win win situation when buying the performance series =)
*
Form a businessman point of view... LESS RESALE VALUE. xD

For that price, you could actually get a high end Yamaha too smile.gif But if you're a DW guy who needs to have DW, why not? If you get Performance, you could have money for an extra snare.

QUOTE(Party2DMax @ Mar 15 2011, 06:19 PM)
Can discuss on head choices as well. Hehe... time to rant about Aquarian.
I've an acoustically treated room and a calibrated (flat) condenser mic. If someone can bring a good snare mic, like a SM57, we can do pretty nice recordings of the collection of snare drums.
*
HAHAHAHA! Sure man biggrin.gif One of these days lahh. On a public holiday perhaps?

Yea.. But 1 thing.. I do not know if you will agree with me anot for this.. The cadeson default drum set's cymbals... err sucks? Lolz..
Their drum shell and skin can give nice cool sound.. But not the cymbal. You definitely need to go for some better cymbals.. The default cymbals is like hitting some junk copper sound.. But that is what you paid for lar.. Good cymbals are drop dead expensive.. Haha..

Cymbals --->> For me, i recommend Zildjian  icon_rolleyes.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif Sabian not bad as well, especially on the AAX series smile.gif Gonna cost a mini bomb on cymbals alone.. smile.gif
*
SABIAN. Sooooo Sabian. biggrin.gif Some Cadeson drums are nice, but anyway. Can you name me even ONE GOOD drum brand that makes GOOD cymbals. I think not. smile.gif

QUOTE(Hydra96 @ Mar 18 2011, 04:32 PM)
Wow, you have a lot of drums. AAX's are a bit too bright in terms of sound. So I prefer darker sounds like from Istanbul, Bosphorus, and Soultone. Hand made cymbals, that is.
*
Not all are mine smile.gif And it depends what your applications are for too. I generally play more rock, so the AAX suits me well.

QUOTE(musefanatic @ Mar 19 2011, 07:02 PM)
How to convert rack tom into floor tom?
And how much the cost?
*
I use my third rack tom as a floor tom now. I twisted the tom holder to make it into the floor position and clamped it to my cymbal stand.

Anyway, I was in Singapore over the weekend for some drumming.

No pictures yet, but the kit was as follows:

Pearl Session Custom All Maple Shells and Sabian Hand Hammered cymbals.
I couldn't bring my cymbals and hardware cause we traveled down by coach.
The Session Custom also had a Pearl Brass Sensitone.

The floor tom was one of the sweetest I have ever played, and the snare was very versatile. But the thing that stood out to me most was the floor tom. Besides a Masterworks, that was the sweetest maple floor tom I have ever heard. It was really responsive and had this great spread of sound.

as for your question...i dont mind anything really but if i were given a choice to design my own signature kit i would want a:

6 piece DW Collector's Series kit..

12inch rack tom
16inch floor tom
18inch floor tom
20ich bass drum

14x6 snare (6x6ply shell+reinforce ring)
13x7 snare(10x6ply shell+reinforce ring)
or a Pearl Masterworks Series Kit with the same spec as above but with a 14x6 snare(14ply maple+6ply birch) and a 13x7 snare(one piece mahagony)
*
DW Collectors arh? What shells?

I would love mine to be a

Yamaha Phoenix (PHX)
8"x7", 10"x8", 12"x9",14"x11" rack toms
16"x14", 18"x16" floor toms
20' bass drum with a Yamaha Subkick

10' and 12' toms will be my primary toms, and if there's space, an extra two auxillary 20' bass drums just for show.

Finishing: White with textured black burst on a burled ash top.

As for the snares: 13' x 5' brass snare and an Oak Custom LOUD 14' x7' snare

as for my DW i would want it to be all maple...but for the low end sound drums i would want it to have a VLT shell...
*
Maple kits are really nice, and my current kit IS a birch/maple hybrid, and the Session kit that I used the other day was 100% maple too, but have you ever tried an oak kit. WALAO. xD

The Yamaha Oak Custom is simply superb wei. The power and the sound that you can get right, I haven't played a kit to those standards yet biggrin.gif

I want to play a FULL DW kit one day too though.

Oh yeah, and guys, I lost my Iron Cobra drum key :S Any idea where I can pick one up? Bentley doesn't do loose parts and now I can't tweak it, and no, some things can't be done with a regular key. I DON'T WANT TO BUY ANOTHER IRON COBRA JUST FOR THE DRUM KEY.

And these few snares have caught my eye..

Collectors? drool.gif

The Oak Custom is one of the most powerful (literally!) snares a drummer can have in his arsenal. Great for live shows, though I have never used it in studios.

Hmm.. The Ludwig Supraphonic is THE most recognizable snare sound, very useful for recordings especially, and the Tama Warlord Masai is simply killer. I haven't seen any in Malaysia though.

I'm wondering if......when you say that the supra is the most recognizable snare sound in the world,
Do you really think you can pick out a supra vs other snares a recording? like really?.....sounds pretty hard.

What makes you say that a oak is never used in studios?
*
I think that it IS possible to pick it out in some situations, especially dry, un-heavily EQ'd mixes or live shows. Its like that Les Paul (in a guitar context) sound. You KNOW its either THAT or a copy of THAT. smile.gif

QUOTE(treflip @ Mar 25 2011, 10:28 AM)

Okay guys, its official, I'm selling my Ludwig Epic.
I only used it a few times (LIKE REALLY A FEW), to record one song, then its been boxed up for several months now.
I'm selling it for RM3.2k, with hardware, no cymbals. Can do multiple configurations, like 3 rack toms and one floor tom or two floor toms and two rack toms. Its a hybrid maple/birch shell, for the birch punch and the maple feel. Great blend.

Its beautiful, natural blackburst lacquer finish. Where can you get finishes like this for such a price? Its pretty much in new/showroom condition lah. I sold the snare a while back so its RM3000 without a snare or RM3200 with a Pearl Steel Piccolo. Trades/partial trades considered.

I'm only selling this because I don't have space to fully utilize it. On the other hand, I go gigging quite a bit, but I only usually bring snares/cymbals/hardware, not full kits. For those, perhaps next time. It really is a great kit and I wouldn't be letting it go, but I don't have a place to keep this, or even more so, play it.

Priority for buying goes to our Drummers Paradise, which is why I haven't posted it elsewhere yet. biggrin.gif I really want to pass this on to someone who will take good care of it. It retails for over RM4000 in stores.

Managed to try out that brass Sonor Artist snare. Got to see what German quality is all about too.
The snare sounds like how a tasty metal drum should sound; it has an explosive crack and sounds really aggressive.
But at around RM3.3k, it's a wee bit pricey; not sure if it comes with a hard case.
The fit and finish on the hardware ain't that impressive either compared to Pearl's stuff generally.
So... May 7/8 for our lil snare gathering?
*
Hmm... Check out the Tama Warlord series? biggrin.gif The cheaper ones, not the US$2099 ones.

Most Ludwig kits are MIC nowadays, along with Pearl, Tama and the like. IF I'm not mistaken, only the high end kits (Legacy, etc) are built there, along with some snares. Even the Centennials were built in Taiwan.

Personally I don't have anything much against MIC stuff now lah, its built to a pretty high standard.
