Hi, I'm planning to get a good-looking, stylish, and reliable Seiko watch. My budget is around 700-900.
Any recommendations?

Automatic seems to be cool...so does Seiko 5 (I have my dad's old Seiko 5), should I get another new Seiko 5?
What about chronograph watches e.g. Criteria? Seems like there's not much usage for a chronograph other than being a stop watch

your budget is decent enough to get seiko divers automatics or quartz chrono...
most people buy chrono for the looks, design, and complication for autotmatics...not so much on using the stop watch function...
just like non-divers getting divers watch because they like the looks and designs of it.

you could also get a decent orient automatics with power reserve with that budget..
something like this...

With a 900 budget you might be able to get the new 200m diver after some discounts. Photos are from the actual owner, not mine.

Haven't seen these in the flesh yet but it's just been made available locally. Only two variants reported locally so far - black and orange dial. Our friends in Singapore reported a white dial version with a stainless steel bezel. Last photo is a case comparison between a Sumo. Does have a few similarities.

yea tat was exactly wat da seller told me. but z20 strap makes da watch looked sissy (haha). den i went back to my hometown (SIBU), i went to a young man who familiar wif SEIKO since he was 5 y-o (his dad owns da small watch shop) n he said its v easy for him to put on z22 on tis watch. bcos he has been doin tat since he was a teen. tis dude knws a lot about seiko n he shows me his divers. i mean 100 of em mixed wif other brands (OMEGAs as well brows.gif ). impressed. i can post my watch pic for u guys after tis. but i slightly scratched it wen swimming+Kayaking. =)

da best thg is, he charged me for rm35 for da strap n free divers watches exhibition. thumbup.gif

I don't think spending 2K on a Seiko is rare nowadays. I know a lot of guys who have spent much more than that on a Seiko. The Tunas, MM300, Brightz Phoenix are all quite popular with the local watch crowd as evident in the local watch forum.

Mind you these are not widely available in local stores as Thong Sia doesn't actively sell them here but its available from a few AD. My regular AD in Sg Wang has sold quite a few higher end Seikos via a catalog that you could place an order for and the stock is supplied locally by Thong Sia.

My guess is his customers either have no idea on making online purchases or prefer to have the peace of mind that their watches are covered under local warranty.

for watch enthusiast yes...but not for normal regular people i think...a lot of people still feels that swiss is better at prices beyond rm2k but that not necessarily true...

I agree with you. Majority will go with swiss at that price range.

Although I do see that Seiko, Orient, Citizen is slowly gaining popularity even with non WIS. Who do you think my AD is selling those Seikos to? tongue.gif He says if they are WIS, they'd probably won't buy from him at those prices. tongue.gif

I don't think a few years ago we had that many higher end Japanese watches in the market. I also see that Chinese mechanicals are slowly gaining up as well.
