I am currently working in my current company for more than 2 years. Then increment I got each year is 1-5%.

I decided to jump ship and the main reason is bcoz the yearly increment is very low. If the interviewer ask the reason of i changing the job, what is the best answer to reply them?

It has been 2 weeks from the date of interview.
As the hiring manager said it would take 2 weeks so I have send an email to follow up on Monday.
But it has been 2 days and no reply from them.
Is it indicated I failed already?

Hi guys, I plan on hosting a webinar on the topic "how to land a job in company x." Would appreciate your help in suggesting what companies you'd like to hear it from.

I often get a question "what are your weak points". I answer eating cakes. It doesn't seem to be the rightanswer - I'm still looking for a job

Haha... there's never a right answer. It's very subjective. For example, being impatient could be a weak point for one hiring manager, but could be a strength for another.

I am currently having a career transition from academic to corporate.
An interviewer asked me 'why do you wanna join marketing but not financial or accounting or sales or business intelligence bla bla bla as an analyst'? and I was completely stumped and didn't answer the question sad.gif Actually I will apply for any corporate job if I meet most of the requirements especially the technical skills. I work on my own pretty much 100% of the time because no one cares and listens to me at work anyway even if the task is outside my job scope and I report to the corresponding researchers. I understand I am lacking a lot of other important skills required to survive in the corporate world such as stakeholder relationship skill. Also somehow the corporate people have a perception that those from academic is less busier and less stressful because I pretty much got asked at every interview whether I have deadlines and if I am busy.
Anyway, can anyone please give me a hand on how to best answer the question? Much appreciated smile.gif

There is no right answer for this. No one can tailor an answer for you because it varies from person-to-person.

Just tell them honestly "why" you're doing a transition. If you're not honest in your answer, they will know that you're not being sincere or open. No one wants a candidate whom they can't connect or don't feel they're being honest.

My answer in this question is 'I usually have my lazy days'. I used this many time already. But this is not what the interviewer only wants to hear. They also want to hear how do you cope up with ypur weak points.

Something like 'My weakpoints/weakness is/are blah blah blah, HOWEVER <insert how you cope up>'.

In my opinion this is the best way to tackle this question. One step backward, two step forward technique.

I think I might have shoot myself in the foot during an interview. When asked about "why do you want to leave?" I answered something like to explore new opportunities and learn new things as what I currently do in my company is quite limited(in terms of being exposed to new technology). They ask did I do any self-learning to update myself.

To be honest, I didn't because my current job is quite hectic and a lot of support issues. I was a bit speechless. Do I have to put more self-initiative effort? My current work have sapped a lot of energy out of me. Sometimes even have to support on weekends. I just want a free time of my own too without thinking more on technologies and programmings and frameworks.. T_T

Hahahahaha take it as a lesson. Next time you'll be able to answer this better.

Basically you can be honest and say you are keen to learn new things and even have plans to take short courses or sign up for online short courses. However the long working hours had limited your time and capability for now, especially when you have some other commitments over the weekend. Even so, when the opportunity presents, you'll definitely continue to pursue such plans or continue to learn.

I think I jut gave a model answer laugh.gif You can be honest, but also be smart enough to cover up for your answers in interview.

The interviewer may ask what 'commitment' over the weekend, so be prepared to answer that. Think of something on your own biggrin.gif
