Hey everyone! How can I possibly answer "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" when i do not have a clue what to do with my life...
*
I'd go with something like this...

My career goal is <ideally you should align your career goal to this job that you are applying>. I'd like to see myself there in 5 years time.

To ensure I reach my goal, I'm keen to take on this role because I believe it provides me the platform to get there.
<Describe what you intend to do to ensure you will reach the goal>
<Describe what you did in the past that showed your commitment in reaching that goal>

But I'm know that I may or may not reach that goal. In short, ideally I would like to be where I want to be <career goal> but if I'm not, in 5 years time, I'm sure I would have built up my skills and knowledge in this area which allows me to be ready to take on any opportunities that come along.

Why not? You're not going to lose anything from attending this interview. Even if you don't get the job, it will be an experience for you to learn what is required from jobs which are completely different from what you are doing.

Don't go for an interview just for the sake of getting a job. The more interviews you go, the more experience you will get. One day you will automatically know what to do, what to say and carry yourself perfectly in an interview. And if you get the job, thats a bonus to you.

Also take note not all jobs need you to have prior knowledge of the industry you're applying for. Some companies prefer people who are responsible and are willing to learn what the work is all about. No one goes into an industry automatically knowing everything.

I guess for this you can apply the real reason an internship is meant for. Since you're applying for an internship, I assume this is your first job.

Being an intern, you can expand your current skills in the work force, opening additional opportunities when you graduate. Also, part of being an intern is to learn about the industry you are applying for and to determine if it is the right path for you. Additionally, being an intern also means you can get a reference from the company, which is definitely useful in increasing your prospects of getting a permanent job when you graduate. Finally, you would want to apply what you learnt so far in the real world work force to test yourself on the understanding of your studies.

Who knows, they might offer you a position if you impress them during your internship.

Why not? Bonus is one of the benefits some companies give to their staff. If you don't want to directly ask what's their bonus scheme, just ask what benefits can the company offer.

guys, i got question. i go interview before and hr ask me about
"if u are in team to do work, and then you found out one of the member can't/didn't do their work , as a leader/members of team, what should you do?".

actually i have predict this question and already discuss with my friend a night before. my friend say what should i do is i need to find a right/suitable job for the member who can't do their work.

but when i answer the question, that hr say i can't do like that in real job world. because every worker have already assign for their specific work so u cannot change their work at your will.

so, what actually the right answer for this question?

When I was being interviewed for a managerial position previously, I got asked this question too. He then stressed on kicking people off if they under-performed.
As for myself asking this question during an interview session, I am actually looking for how would that leader come up with the solutions in handling it. I wouldn't say there is a right or wrong answer. Just wanting to focus on the problem solving skills (teamwork and etc).

Erm, as a leader you have the right to change the role of that team member who can't or won't do the job. I have only been asked that question once when they asking me on my managerial roles, but more on the lines of how do I manage trouble employees.

Work is work, if they are subpar at it, it does not benefit them nor the company so why continue at it. Being harsh in the workplace does not equate being harsh in personal life.

Hi. If the interviewer tells you, you're x the candidate they're looking for 'cause they want someone who's more experienced, yet you've sent in your resume during the application process before the interview (clearly they knew what you're capable of and what you're x able to deliver), are they tryna avoid telling you that you basically were called for interview just to fulfill their headcounts (though they actually disregard work experience or lack of work-related experience is merely an excuse to reject your application)?????????? I've heard more than once that I needed more work experience for a rejection, got so frustrated 'cause it felt more like they were only wasting my time to make it appear as if they had enough candidates for a job vacancy. I mean, if that's really the case, please, for goodness' sake, don't make face-to-face interviews, a phone interview goes a long way and saves up travelling expenses and time for other potential interviews.😡👿😾

It takes more than just a resume to know what you're capable of. You can pepper up your resume to appeal to the company but in reality, your skills might not match up to the words you put in your resume. Relying on just a piece of paper to assess if a candidate is suitable for the role is plain irresponsible for anyone.

An interview is a test of your character, to judge if you truly are worthy of what you wrote in your resume. I've met and personally known a few people who purposely put in details that they have no experience on in their resume and fail spectacularly during an interview. Coincidentally because of this person's failure, I managed to get the job.

If you feel that you cannot commit to an interview, why didn't you request for a preliminary phone interview when they contact you?

Also you're making too many assumptions in your statements.

I thought we're not supposed to change the mode of interview? Would the HR get mad or refuse to proceed if I did? A friend (with better results and achievements) got rejected by a big firm for he'd turned down its internship offer. [feel more like the HR are kinda hard to deal with unless you're the Type of candidate they want]. I believe I wrote everything I had (with certificates and testimonials) and did (with recommendation letters) in my resume. I even didn't write much about my self-achievements (which were the main factors I was called I reckon), still, all that I got was "we needed someone with more experience".

Hi, I am a budding entrepreneur who wants to create a platform to link developers (or other skilled individuals) to perform a specific task in a specific amount of time given. It is similar to outsourcing a project.

Please click on the link below to help me out and thank you so much for your participation. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I don't know if there is a right or wrong in changing the methods of an interview but I did it once with the current company I am working with. They requested for an interview on a date that was too soon for me to take a day off to attend so I asked for a short phone interview to see there is any interest in proceeding with it.

Sometimes you cannot take the interviewer's words for granted. They say that you're not the person they're looking for due to your inexperience but in fact, some of them just plain can't afford you. Instead of saying they can't pay you what you want, they might give a predetermined excuse used to reject a candidate. It's really hard to judge sometimes what your real weaknesses are from an interview.
