Hi all Sifu's out there,

I have a samsung LCD and a pioneer sound system. both supports HDMI. but I want to connect my PS3 through the sound system and them to the LCD. Is this possible? Will there be a problem?

Can the PS3 go through the sound system and then to the LCD TV? will the sound be delayed?

the reason why is that the LCD speakers are not that good and i think they are just standard. If i get to use the pioneer sound system, it will be better cause i will have the surround sound ....

thanks smile.gif smile.gif biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

As long as your Pioneer sound system have HDMI IN (not HDMI passthrough) and HDMI OUT, you can connect your system like that:-
For both video and audio: PS3 ---HDMI--- Pioneer sound system ---HDMI--- LCD

If your sound system not have HDMI IN, then connect as follow:-
For video: PS3 ---HDMI--- LCD
For audio: PS3 ---OPTICAL--- sound system (providing sound system have OPTICAL IN)

This is the best setup if you can do it. I have my ps3 connected via HDMI to my Panasonic TV and sound via Optical cable direct to my Sony Amp. Just make sure you change the settings on the ps3's XMB for the correct outputs for video and sound.

Thanks all... i think the pioneer system got HDMI OUT only and does not have an out. This optical cable, what kind of cable is this? DIGITAL? and when it is connected, what mode do you put on your pioneer system? LINE1? because what is happening now, i have HDMI OUT from pioneer system to LCD tv. So i dont think i can set the PS3 to pioneer through HDMI.

normal HT system have HDMI out only..that's why normally we use the optical cable to connect the PS3 <--> HT for audio

u can get the optical cable at electrical / electronic shop..price should be RM5x (for non branded)

According to spec, look like your sound system no OPTICAL IN. So you can't use optical cable from PS3 to sound system.

You can connect your system as follow:-
PS3---HDMI---LCD---AV cable(normally red and white colour)---sound system

You can't get actual dts or AC3 sound from PS3, but still can produce sorround sound via Dolby Pro logic II.

existing user can't use newly created or other psn id...

in order to use ur new psn id, u have to create new user id at ps3 XMB.

OH damn!!! thanks for pointing that out or else i would have gotten one. So when i use the the connection as you have stated, on the sound system i would choose LINE 1 correct? and then do i have to change the audio function on the TV too. Cause as i know, HDMI is intergrated meaning audio and video together.

LINE 1 is ANALOG IN? if yes, then select LINE 1.
No need any setting at LCD as long as connect to AUDIO OUT at LCD.

just same la
unless you want to use really long cable, then get monster cable
else, the signal will suffer loss, my cheapo rm15 cable cant go more than 3 meters, I tried
the signal become bad, and the picture got distortion.but not a problem to me, cos ps3 and monitor is near.
