input 100V - 240V
output 4.9V

seems it is able to take on Asia Vol.

by the way..do anyone know how to disable the Kindle 3 index? I had been google around and they are talking their own language..sad.gif

Just back from Japan buddy, had problems accessing the net there. No free wifi's and where there is access, it costs a bomb.
In any case, quote should be in your PM smile.gif

Sure of course I do. Yes, you would be able to just like laptops and items which takes lower or higher voltages if it does mention that it accepts 100V till 240V. On the Kindle 3 Index, am not sure im clear what youre referring to though, would you mind giving perhaps a screenshot for us please ?

no no...I meant when you transfer books to kindle, kindle 3 will do indexing on the book...so it takes a lot of battery and time to index...

What is indexing? How do we know the Kindle is done with the indexing?

I wonder if we can use commercial mini USB cable on the Kindle?

if you don't understand with the link given...is normal...even I don't understand...haha...some ppl said using the debug Mode might damage the device...but that's the easiest way to turn off the indexing...

Indexing is like computer index...each time you put a book into Kindle 3, kindle will then go through the book and create the keyword/index which will be used when you use the search function...

To check if the indexing is complete, try to search. Any keyword will do.. e.g. aaa.. if the result returns "Yet to index" means some books still indexing.. of course this will use a lot of battery...so is a good idea to leave it charging till is fully index...depending on how many books you insert, it might take up to more than a day..

There are some occasion that the indexing keep running (as in infinite loop), this is cause by a book or few books that is corrupted and Kindle having trouble reading it. Best you remove those books..

hahaha..biggrin.gif
simplify --> no indexing = save battery
So, remove any corrupted book to save the battery smile.gif

Fluene,
In short you cant.
Simply because the Kindle uses a Micro USB cable and not a Mini USB Cable.
Having said that though, any Micro USB cable will do. Like me, Ive not even used the original cable since the
very first time I used the Kindle.

Added on January 26, 2011, 3:36 pmmy kindle unable to display chinese font properly and having lots of squares.
google it and i found the solution as below

display chinese fonts:
1) go to home
2) type anything to enable the input bar pop up
3) delete the words u type previously and input the line below (the letter case does matter):
;debugOn
4) press enter ( if your kindle returning you the search result , means that u had some typos, input again)
5) repeat the steps 3 and 4 for the following lines as well:
~changeLocale zh-CN
;debugOff
6) restart your kindle

your kindle should able to display chinese fonts properly now..

enjoy kindling smile.gif

restore to default setting as below:
;debugOn
~changeLocale en-US
;debugOff

I am still interested, but not getting it right now as I have other different priority.

In terms of kindle cover choices, what could a lighted cover make's a different. Meaning to say, I couldn't really read from a kindle when the light's is out, saying that there is no back light on the kindle display?

Sure thing buddy.
Right you are. The Kindle does not have it own backlight. It gets its brightness from the ambient light around it. The more light around it, the brighter the Kindle gets.
Its for the very same reason you can read the Kindle right out there in the middle of a beach in bright sunlight and you cant with say an Ipad or Iphone.
That strength however is not replicated in dim lights. As long as there is any source of light, the Kindle is readable and comfortable to use.
In darkness, it cannot be used unlike an Ipad.
