Guys I'm torn between Sharp's 60inch LC60A77M LCD(RM9999) and Toshiba's 55inch 55XL700E LED (RM9200) ........ It's between the huge screen size of Sharp and the LED backlight of Toshiba (about 10-11 feet viewing distance). I tried doing a comparison at Harvey Norman but with the conditions (lighting, different source, 'bumped-up' showroom settings etc) I really can't tell the difference.

Between these two power consumption, price (a few hundred bucks difference), extra features (connectivity, picture viewing, reading media files and other things TVs are NOT suppose to do) is not a factor for me although the 60kg++ weight of the Sharp unit scares me a bit (my custom rack might collapse). Paper specs aside will there be significant difference in pic quality between these two units (if not than the obvious choise would be the 60inch)

Ok then comes in another thing.... Samsung UA55C7000 - series 7 3D LED. It cost around RM15k - that is a lot of difference and a huge hole in the pocket. BUT if 3D does hit in 1-2yrs time I dont want to be the sucker who got his TV 'right before it hits mainstream'. Like most of us, I dont plan to change TV every 1-2yrs.

If I get a 3D TV it will be at lease a few month before I 'go' 3D. I already have a PS3 - the upcoming 3D games might be nice (unlike the ones on PSN now). Problem is my receiver (which is <1yr old) does not support HDMI 1.4 meaning that I have to connect the PS3 or whatever bluray player I get direct to the TV via HDMI and optical to the receiver- Me not prepared to lose HD/Lossless audio which means I will have to get one of those bluray player with dual HDMI output (Samsung & Panasonic has it but dont think it's available locally yet).

So? Macam mana? 55inch LED vs 60inch LCD or just say F-it and risks getting F-ed (in a bad way) by the missus and future proof my investment on 3D.

Advise, views are very much welcomed.

Yes that's a good idea too- 150inch you say? That would fit my 20x12 room nicely. I like that but since I play tons of games plasma may not be a good idea.

Hehehe. Seriously - my room is not even big enough for a 90inch projector (10-11feet viewing distance max)

Buying a 3D tv now isn't going to future proof anything. It could be obsolete when standard 3D comes out. You'll find yourself having proprietary 3D tech from different companies while the new ones have standard 3D tech used by all the different companies.. But it does appear that 3D releases are booming, so choose wisely. 3D titles are more expensive than normal releases. You might not even like 3D.

big and cheap,go for plasma..but power consumption is half more compared to LCD and LED.Black level cun..panny v20

LED is a good choice since it help the contrast, less power, slim, but expensive..

LCD almost the same with led,but the black level not very cun..

after all,its hard for u to tell the diff if u hookup with ps3 and play blu-ray
movie.. smile.gif

Plasma power consumption is not a big issue, if you do the real calculation and average usage for a year a Plasma set will cost you about RM125 more than a LCD set.

Plus the new generation of Plasma sets are much more eco friendly.

Yes my thoughts exactly- in 1-2yrs down the line they might even figure out how to do 3d without glasses. At the very least make the current 3d glass tech less prone to fatigue and discomfort. Thing is I'm a avid gamer and the thought of GT5 & Killzone 3 in 3D is just something I cannot brush off sad.gif

I am not considering plasma since despite what they've been claiming, I still see quite a few people suffering from burn-in with the latest models. Conditioning and good practice (e.g. running white noise a few hrs/day) may help but that is one more thing I need to worry about.

Looks like I'm down to the 60inch LCD or 55inch LED...... how?

thanks for the replies guys

Looks like your budget a bit higher than mine, but my main consideration now is Toshiba 55ZV600E (around RM7300).

So I think the XL series should be even better.

I won't bother with 3D. There's not much content (yet?) and the big price difference don't appeal for me to jump unto the 3D wagon

Burn-in and retention are two different things. Burn-in doesn't happen often, but you will see a lot of image retention during the first 200-250 hours. For something to burn in, the person would have to be really careless.
