Guys I'm torn between Sharp's 60inch LC60A77M LCD(RM9999) and Toshiba's 55inch 55XL700E LED (RM9200) ........ It's between the huge screen size of Sharp and the LED backlight of Toshiba (about 10-11 feet viewing distance). I tried doing a comparison at Harvey Norman but with the conditions (lighting, different source, 'bumped-up' showroom settings etc) I really can't tell the difference.
Between these two power consumption, price (a few hundred bucks difference), extra features (connectivity, picture viewing, reading media files and other things TVs are NOT suppose to do) is not a factor for me although the 60kg++ weight of the Sharp unit scares me a bit (my custom rack might collapse). Paper specs aside will there be significant difference in pic quality between these two units (if not than the obvious choise would be the 60inch)
Ok then comes in another thing.... Samsung UA55C7000 - series 7 3D LED. It cost around RM15k - that is a lot of difference and a huge hole in the pocket. BUT if 3D does hit in 1-2yrs time I dont want to be the sucker who got his TV 'right before it hits mainstream'. Like most of us, I dont plan to change TV every 1-2yrs.
If I get a 3D TV it will be at lease a few month before I 'go' 3D. I already have a PS3 - the upcoming 3D games might be nice (unlike the ones on PSN now). Problem is my receiver (which is <1yr old) does not support HDMI 1.4 meaning that I have to connect the PS3 or whatever bluray player I get direct to the TV via HDMI and optical to the receiver- Me not prepared to lose HD/Lossless audio which means I will have to get one of those bluray player with dual HDMI output (Samsung & Panasonic has it but dont think it's available locally yet).
So? Macam mana? 55inch LED vs 60inch LCD or just say F-it and risks getting F-ed (in a bad way) by the missus and future proof my investment on 3D.
Advise, views are very much welcomed.

QUOTE(low98944 @ Sep 21 2010, 12:14 PM) What about special order with Panasonic Japan for 150" Plasma? Cabut... Yes that's a good idea too- 150inch you say? That would fit my 20x12 room nicely. I like that but since I play tons of games plasma may not be a good idea. Hehehe. Seriously - my room is not even big enough for a 90inch projector (10-11feet viewing distance max)

QUOTE(refnulf @ Sep 21 2010, 01:09 PM) Buying a 3D tv now isn't going to future proof anything. It could be obsolete when standard 3D comes out. You'll find yourself having proprietary 3D tech from different companies while the new ones have standard 3D tech used by all the different companies.. But it does appear that 3D releases are booming, so choose wisely. 3D titles are more expensive than normal releases. You might not even like 3D. Yes my thoughts exactly- in 1-2yrs down the line they might even figure out how to do 3d without glasses. At the very least make the current 3d glass tech less prone to fatigue and discomfort. Thing is I'm a avid gamer and the thought of GT5 & Killzone 3 in 3D is just something I cannot brush off I am not considering plasma since despite what they've been claiming, I still see quite a few people suffering from burn-in with the latest models. Conditioning and good practice (e.g. running white noise a few hrs/day) may help but that is one more thing I need to worry about. Looks like I'm down to the 60inch LCD or 55inch LED...... how? thanks for the replies guys

QUOTE(tim_1335 @ Sep 22 2010, 01:31 AM) haha, u don't wanna know how much it is.... but according to some experts in AVS forum, this is the best tv money can buy now, right next to kuro. It's RM30k++, for that price if I buy it I expect it to be able to do BJs too. Anyways how much can get the Sony 60 inch EX700 - saw it retailing at RM19k

Sigh...... after help & opinions from you guys (thanks dudes) and other sources now my options is getting a bit more complicated.
3D is out of the picture- I guess most of you guys agree with this. But now I'm looking at the SONY KDL-60EX700 - it's 60inch Edge-LED.... yeah it retails at RM19k but after discounts and juggling on things (e.g. selling some of my current AV stuffs, not getting a new smartphone, auctioning my kidneys etc) - I can probably get away with it spending as much as I would if I was to go 55inch 3D.
Still considering.........sigh

Dudes/dudettes,
Just got my 60EX700 earlier today - a short review:
Pic quality- can only compare with my old 42inch HD ready Sharp in the same environment (I dont trust the displays I see at the showrooms), overall the quality is great but the blacks can be a bit blacker- maybe with some tuning it can get better. Can't seem to find the function to manually change contrast - so far contrast is controlled by other settings, cannot manually override.
I'm glad I did not go for 55inch - 60inch at 11feet hits the spot pretty nicely, a bit smaller it would be a disappointment and if I went for a projector with 72inch throw it would be too big.
Have not tried other functionality (networks, media playback etc) - honestly I dont care for most of them.
Bluray, XBOX 360, PS3 gaming image quality is superb - this goes without saying but have not tried with Wii (which is already pretty shitty on a 42inch). Astro SD is surprisingly good with the upscaling. Astro HD is superb.
MKV files - now (probably due to the huge screen size) I can see a lot of difference between bluray and 1080p mkvs - can see the compression artifacts on blurriness on mkvs (tried a few mkvs with various quality). I am using ACRYAN PlayONHD so there could be a slight possibility this is also due to the player. Astro HD pic quality seems to be better than the 1080p mkvs despite them being 1080i.
Did not bother to check the sound quality- everything goes thorough the amps.
An issue I'm having now is I'm getting eye fatigue after a few minutes of watching in the dark- not as bad as watching 3D but still uncomfy. Suspect this is probably due to the huge screen which is a lightsource (my backlight levels are ok- not over 'brighted'). Will go to Ikea tomorrow to get one of them ambient light thingy to put behind the TV - hopefully this helps.
I know a lot of people hate the motionflow effects (making movies look like RTM studio shows some say) but I love it- movement looks more natural for me, it's just personal preference.
Avatar and UP! bluray kicks so much ass on this TV.
If any of you have any questions or something specific u need me to test/try on the unit, just give me a post.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Nov 7 2010, 07:08 AM) This is the No.1 reason I am sticking with Plasma if I am going to get a big screen. No question about that at all. All I needed to do was tape those LED lights from IKEA around the edge of the TV (rears) and switch them on while watching in the dark - no more eye fatigue (or much less).

QUOTE(nando @ Nov 15 2010, 10:37 PM) bro...just simple question...The Sony 60EX made in Japan ? Good question, I'll check it out tonite but I doubt it's made in japan. My DTR-ES5500ES amplifier (for US market, not available here) is actually made in Penang.
