Fergie demands killer instinct
QUOTE Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has challenged his team to find their killer instinct and boost their title push. The Red Devils currently sit five points behind champions Chelsea but could have been closer had they not thrown away late leads in the draws at Fulham and Everton. Ferguson believes his side have not been ruthless enough and wants the Red Devils to kill off opponents in future. He told the club's official magazine, Inside United: "This present team doesn't kill off sides as well as they should. "At Goodison, we had three or four chances at 3-1 to really put the game out of sight, but we were wasteful and ultimately paid the price. "We threw away two goals in injury-time. That's unthinkable. "That killer instinct just isn't there at the moment and it's something we need to develop. "We haven't had a problem scoring goals. "We got three against Liverpool, Everton and West Ham, two away at Fulham, three in the Community Shield; that suggests we don't have difficulty finding the net. "What we're not doing, though, is killing teams off. Setbacks "I have no doubt the players have taken these setbacks on board. They suffer just as much - if not more - than the rest of us. "They're the ones throwing the points away and they're the ones who know fine well that they're good enough to win this league." He added: "We're playing well, and perhaps those four points we have dropped away from home at Fulham and Everton have given off something of a false impression. "Nevertheless, we didn't like letting those points slip away and it's crucial that we don't make too many more similar mistakes this season." The United boss is not surprised Chelsea are top but believes the Blues face sterner tests in future. Asked if United could not afford to drop any more points, he replied: "No, no, no. Every team is going to drop points - that's inevitable. "If you look at Chelsea's start to the season, you'd have expected them to have won all those games, so the position they're in doesn't surprise me. "Meanwhile, we've had tricky trips to Fulham and Everton then played Liverpool at home. Those are difficult matches. "Liverpool, Arsenal and ourselves have all played top sides early on. "Chelsea's sterner tests are still to come." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6431681,00.html Fergie fledgling set for United recall QUOTE Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he could recall Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley from his loan spell at Wigan in January. The 21-year-old moved to the DW Stadium on a season-long loan in August but Ferguson believes he may be ready to challenge for a spot in the United team this season. He told Inside United: "We'll probably bring Tom back in January. Tom's going to be a great footballer, I really like him. "I've heard the fans are starting to talk about Tom, and I think they're right to do that because he could very well be the next top player to come through the ranks." Cleverley had been expected to stay at Old Trafford this season but Ferguson had a change of heart because of the competition for places. The United boss continued: "I felt it could be hard to give him enough football. I think five or six months on loan could really help him. He'll benefit from first-team football in the Premier League." Cleverley, who has previously enjoyed successful loan spells with Leicester and Watford, has been limited to one Wigan appearance so far because of a knee injury. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Fergi...icle595499.html This post has been edited by alien2003: Oct 7 2010, 09:30 AM |

It'll be interesting to see Cleverley back. I hope he makes an impact.
QUOTE(l_berd @ Oct 6 2010, 11:29 AM) its too early to say they're screwed this season.. first 7 matches yes they were but i wont write them off completely (for top 4 places) You're right. It's to early tell if their season is screwed. Unfortunately. their fans don't think so. He's getting crucified, there.i'll say if we still cant get an away win, then we're screwed as much as them QUOTE(mhyug @ Oct 6 2010, 03:48 PM) he is the best thing going on there for them, but sad enough their boardroom plus players are krap, kwap, krop and etc.give the man time and he can turn things around but being pools they have no patient it seems. I certainly hope it happens. the guy is a class act, but no man can do magic tricks and get instant things.if fab was to leave the England post, roy is the best candidate next to harry for the job.any club in need a good manager just have to wait for roy if he gets the axe soon and profit from it QUOTE(alien2003 @ Oct 6 2010, 10:52 PM) Charisma and history of Ferguson .... Macheda sure know's how to gosok SAF's shoe. QUOTE(mhyug @ Oct 7 2010, 01:47 AM) wch is worst, getting slapped after scoring orrr getting a smacker lip to lip from nev?? I'm pretty sure this is not gonna help the team get that killer instinct ... as a matter of fact, it's a disincentive by far the weirdest thing a player done while scoring. |

QUOTE(+Newbie+ @ Oct 7 2010, 12:41 PM) It'll be interesting to see Cleverley back. I hope he makes an impact. Macheda would be foolish to leave the club even though he has been limited to the bench..he's only 19 and he's training, playing and learning alongside great players like Rooney, Berba and Owen. You're right. It's to early tell if their season is screwed. Unfortunately. their fans don't think so. He's getting crucified, there. I certainly hope it happens. Charisma and history of Ferguson .... Macheda sure know's how to gosok SAF's shoe. I'm pretty sure this is not gonna help the team get that killer instinct ... as a matter of fact, it's a disincentive If he's 25, I can totally understand. If he can't make the breakthrough in few years time - then leave. Certainly not now when he's only 19... |

QUOTE Edwin van der Sar will retire at the end of this season, according to Manchester United's goalkeeping coach Eric Steele. Sumber RujukanVan der Sar turns 40 later this month and, according to Steele, has indicated that he will quit playing at the end of the current campaign. And Steele revealed how the United keeper has set his sights on winning the FA Cup before he finally calls time on his illustrious career. "I think Ed has made his mind up and said this is his last year," said Steele. "He's a good pro and a sensible and highly intelligent guy who will know when the time is right. "I don't think he'll need myself or the manager to tell him that time has come. He will know." Having won the Champions League, three Premier League titles, the Carling Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup since joining United in 2005, the only domestic medal van der Sar is missing is the FA Cup. And Steele revealed a Wembley triumph on May 14 would be the dream way for van der Sar to bring the curtain down on his career. "Ed hasn't won it and that's a big target for him," said Steele. "He's won most things in the game, there's not much left he hasn't. "When we rotate our goalkeepers I think you will see Mr Van der Sar knocking on the door and asking the boss to play in the FA Cup." sad news i must say |

Van der Sar turns 40 on October 29 and appears ready to reject any offer of a new contract and bring the curtain down on his time at Old Trafford. The Dutchman has won three Premier League titles, the Carling Cup and the Champions League since joining the club from Fulham in 2005. Though no decision has been taken as yet, Steele is anticipating that Van der Sar will not continue beyond the end of the 2010-11 season. "I think Ed has made his mind up and said this is his last year," Steele told the Manchester Evening News. "He is a good pro and a sensible and highly intelligent guy who will know when the time is right. I don't think he will need myself or the manager to tell him that time has come. He will know. "I think we need him because this team is in transition at the moment. If he gets to Christmas and he thinks it is right to go on and the manager thinks it is right we will make a decision. It is down to how he feels and performs. If he doesn't perform the manager will make the decision. Edwin will as well." Steele has been actively involved in the search for a long-term replacement for Van der Sar having been spotted scouting Atletico Madrid's David De Gea, along with Sir Alex Ferguson, and Anders Lindegaard of Aalesunds. The Old Trafford coach says it is vital that a suitable replacement for the Dutchman is found and admits he has targets in mind at present. "Without a doubt this is a critical point in the goalkeeping department and what we do. There is no point in hiding it," Steele said. "My job is to make sure we have the chance of getting the best if the manager at any point decides we want a number one, number two or number three. "It is my job to say here are the names. It is no different now just because Edwin is about to hit 40. It was the same two years ago when he was 38. We have to be prepared. The moment he [Ferguson] wants to do it I have to say here are the options. I have a dossier ready for if and when the manager and chief executive David Gill says 'who do you think?' "There are candidates now who we'd be interested in. If the manager asked me now, yes, there are players who I think we should go for." Though Van der Sar is the very model of longevity, along with his colleagues Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, United striker Dimitar Berbatov, 29, says he is unlikely to prolong his own career to the same extent. The Bulgarian has been in tremendous form this season, scoring six goals in eight games. "Me? At 35? No way!" Berbatov told Inside United. "Seriously, though, everyone is different and you have to know your body is giving you the signals to stop. Having been here for two seasons, I know why Giggs, Scholes, [Gary] Neville have been here for so long and why they are still playing. Here they have the facilities and the coaching staff who know how to prepare you. "They are still playing at the highest level, so I think to myself, 'Can I do that?' If not, then at least try to see how long I can play for. But when your body tells you, that's when you have to stop and not make a fool of yourself." hmmm when the time comes i expect fergie to give his sagely talk and pujuk vds stay.just like he did wif scholes mwhahahaha. That's why a lot of footballers try to maximise their income, knowing their careers have very short life spans. After that, it's coaching, punditry or bankruptcy. lol

QUOTE(angel-face @ Oct 8 2010, 11:45 AM) Sir Bobby Charlton is a member of the board of directors at United from 1984 until now and he also runs some businesses and soccer schools, so no problem for living but in the end, its all up to that footballer's own attitude, if one spends like running water, then not even a whole mountain of gold is enough to fund his habit This post has been edited by dlct87: Oct 8 2010, 11:54 AM |
