My 1 week old BDC5500 cannot detect/produce DTS sounds when I connect it to my receiver. In fact it cannot detect 5.1channel at all .I use brand new optical cable. Does anyone face the same problem?

Supsrisingly..when I connect my 4 year old samsung player back...the DTS sound and any 5.1ch sound works just fine..

Can anyone help me out here..Thanks dude

already surveyed few shops in kl..cheapest is in houzdepot rm459. they give out a rm10 voucher so the price is rm449. still looking the best best price...other shops quote rm499 after discount (they said/showed me samsung promotion brochure - it was rm899 on it). saw a few demos and this model loads bluray damn fast compared to others!!! less then 20secs...other brands average time is about 40secs - 1minute.

can someone confirm to me if i setup the allshare function with my desktop and laptop, does it plays all my movie collections (avi/mkv/wmv) with upscale to 1080p or at least 720p?

my tv is a samsung 40" and has a usb port for playing media contents. i tried a few movie files and it plays well..but no upscale. also tried mkv file with 720p resolution. it shows quality like a astro byond. rclxms.gif wonder if my tv can load 1080p mkv file with more than 4gb size..but then i dont have a bigger size usb drive..only 4gb.. cry.gif

It won't upscale (I not sure about this but it do looks better than playing at PC) the download movies for you but it do enlarge smaller file size movie to fit the screen.

The BD Player do support larger than 4GB size movie, the largest movie I tested so far is 18GB 1080P MKV. The quality is near BD quality which means far far better than Astro B.yond HD Channel if the source you download / rip is directly from origin BD source with at least 720P quality.

Why need usb thumb drive? Just copy all your movies to a external 2.5inch HDD will do.

thanks for the information..one more question..from those demo i saw in shops, the player wont resume playback of a bluray/dvd if stopped or turned off. it loads the menu again..my old pioneer dvd player resumes playback with a memory up to 15 discs. or there are settings for this? or this player (being the entry level only) does not have this function?

If not mistaken, I notice only BD that have function of resume will asking you to resume after in middle pause, certain BD needs to add to bookmark for continue from that time frame you stop just before. For BD that not provide such function, it won't resume.

I notice it seems happening in this Samsung player as well another Sony S370 player.

AFAIK, not able to resume at the place you stop a BD (for most BD) is one of the quirks of BD and not because of the player. This happens to all BD players and not just the Samsung. As Andrew mentioned, it depends on the BD title itself; it will resume if that BD title is authored with this resume function built-in, otherwise it will start reloading from the beginning and very frustrating at times. Anyway, you can use the pause function or go to the nearest chapter apart from what Andrew suggested using the bookmark or going to the timeframe you stopped. All DVDs allow you to resume at the point you last stopped; so much for progress! doh.gif

Ya, it is frustrated, I feel this part is backward technology. Not much title doing resume function also.

i kinda like the remote..easy to find in the dark (glow in the dark buttons!). i always watch movies in dimmed light to experience the clarity of the pics and sound. and poof!!! the remote is easily found with glowing green buttons..love it!! thinking to change all my remote (tv/astro/amps/) buttons to glow in the dark too!!! rclxms.gif
if only i know where to get these custom made...

i think he sold out ler.. just keep searching for C5500 in the garage sales, you might find a few sellers there..

i dont have a media player but i can say, it looks better than my acer 1830tz hdmi.. i think a dedicated blu-ray player will always have better PQ than pc, media player even ps3.

hi guys

just got this player from a forumer here...cool stuff! this player is surely better than my first player philips bdp3008. so yeah, thx man!

ok...now a dilemma...as at now it has this old firmware "Ver.1016.1 Aug.17.2010" ...

so far it can playback my 'ahem' blu ray, ori blur ray...and vis usb can play most files inc. mp4 with audio ....and so far only has problem with one mkv 720p file now ... it's a Metallica live in France concert, pic ok, but audio so bad coz it has DTS 5.1 ... can only bits of bad-gobbled-jerky audio ...

i've already connected the player to the internet and now the player can play Youtube and even can surf to Google Earth (i kid you not tongue.gif) ... but it keeps on asking me on upgrading to the latest firmware "Ver.1020.1 Dec.27.2010"

so you guys think i should update? will i still get mp4 with audio and improve most mkv or other video file playback with this update?? and can it still play all ahem / ori discs with this upgrade??

scared to upgrade coz nanti can't go back to the old settings...

any good advice appreciated

cheers guys!!

regards

Added on March 31, 2011, 7:03 pmbtw- this player is now selling at best denki for rm499...there's LG vand cheaper at rm399 but not sure if it's media player capability is a good as this samsung...

still awaiting for advice on whether i should upgrade the samsung's firmware or not btw ... tongue.gif

well i just bought the player today. couldn't tahan dy. everywhere out of stock. so have to buta2 pay rm499.

so far, tried on my hdd 1.5Tb 1080p mkv movies. no problemo playin all of them. DTS sound detected.

only thing is not able to detect m2ts files. changed to file to .mp4. can play, got pic but no sound (anyone got any solution?)

now have to invest in a few more BD originals and compare with the TrueHD files I have.

for those who don't own any media players, maybe this is a good player to start.

Anybody here tried the Inception BD with the C5500 and experienced any audio drop-outs, audio sync, skipping and freezing issues?
