Yes, the Samsung BD-C5500 is a Profile 2.0 player and can access BD-live for those titles that have this feature. But usually nothing very interesting so not a big deal.

Internet TV is for accessing YouTube, some infor web apps and etc some nonsense games. It is more useful in USA as it support neflix as well.

For Samsung and Sony....both seems not much big different but Samsung extra better support media player which up to support mkv playback, better internet TV and interface. Overall I still more recommended on Samsung. Which one more last longer is the only I can't tell now as both still new for me.

Though BD-Live is not that great at the moment, there should be improvement as we move along so it is still good to get a BD player with Profile 2.0 since this will future-proof your purchase. Anyway, most if not all new BD player are with Profile 2.0, just check to make sure. The major advantage of Samsung over the Sony is the support for NTFS formatted hard disk while the plus point for Sony is that it can play SACD but not many people have SACD. Sony also has both optical and digital audio port while Samsung has only optical audio out, otherwise both are pretty similar so it is down to personal preference.

Samsung also support NTFS drive and seems no limit on capacity. SACD wise I not sure even it not mention support on it but I think all CD drive is capable playing on it. I got one SACD, will try on it soon. The only missing seems is Samsung only have optical audio out.

I see. Cool cool.. So with Samsung, i can hook up an external hard disk and play my media files with it?

I was thinking to get a WDTV Live. If Samsung can do play my media files via external hard disk, that is consider great! It can play all format without problem? How about those huge 1080p movie files, smooth play?

tested 20GB BD file. at certain point of time the sound will went silence. not sure it is the file itself problem or cable or player itself.

tried with 1tb Ex-HDD, partitioned into 3 partitions. biggest is 500GB.
no problem.

both the USB at front and back can be used. so can connect 2 external HDD or thumbdrive.

tried connect with USB hub, but cant detect if connect 2 drives simultaneously into USB hub.

Anybody knows a way of getting it to play subtitles?

Embedded ones shows when played on PC it is fine but when using the BD player it does not show.

Using a 1TB HD and it works fine. Just some MKV movies it does not play. Unable to find out why it happens.

i think previously someone mentioned ..

to be able to play the subtitle properly ... u need to extract/download the .srt subtitle file in the same folder with same file name with the mlv

Laptop sometimes facing lagging issue in big files, and troublesome (You need to on the laptop and plugin the cable). PQ wise can't really remember it how, as I only try one time compare before, if not remember wrongly, media player seems getting better PQ.
