braveheart taikor,

According to the manual on page 12 .... NO

For anyone who have m2ts or mts files can have a look at Sony S370
There is no need to get the Sony if you want to play m2ts and mts files. Just change the file extension to .mp4 and they will play flawlessly on the Samsung. thumbup.gif Even the AVCHD files produced using Sony camcorders.

I feel that a standalone HD media player will be better if you want to play other file formats not supported by the Samsung as it will have more functions and more flexible.

Happy New Year everybody here!

Hope Sifus here can help me!

I tried to update the firmware but was unsuccessful on a few attempts.
I've tried all possible way there is, but to no avail.

My BD player is connected to LAN. When I try to update, the screen shows "connecting to server" then suddenly goes back to the menu screen. I'm sure it is not connection problem as I can access the Internet tv fine. I watched a few YouTube clips without any problem.

I also tried both USB flash drive and WD My Passport. I know I can't use portable hard drive but what the heck... I can open and watch movies stored in both Flash drive and hard drive. But I can't find USB option on the firmware update screen. Instead it shows wired(when LAN is connected and disconnected).

Tried burning the file to DVD, same thing happen. Can't even access the disc!

Anyone has had this problem?!

Got it nearby HLK Taipan as per someone mentioned. The shop name is MG Electrical

I try to get it with the price tag rm399 but eventhough nego kaw-kaw, the best price I got is 450. Since it is a last unit, no choice I paid rm450+48(extended warranty 2years). Strangely the receipt issued written rm799 for C5500.

Anyway a good news is that my new Pioneer AVR with 5.1 speaker just arrived yesterday. Tested with C5500 + sammy 42" full HD today and the result.....SUPERB.
The BD movie I tested is AVATAR. I would said the experience much better than watching in cinema.

Finally my home theater system is completed and now will tweet to its fullest potential. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

As far as I know, the Samsung player does not support RMVB files. Refer to pg. 12 of the user manual for the list of files supported. To play m2ts and mts files just change the file extension to .mp4 and they will play. Definitely the player supports HDD but you may have to press the Red button A (Change Device) on the remote before it shows and you have to select the type of media (video, music or photo) before you can play it. It is better to get a stand-alone HD Media Player if you want to play files other than those supported by the Samsung.

I have never try converting rmvb files to mkv but if you type in "convert rmvb to mkv" and google, you'll find many softwares and instructions to do the conversion. Other sifus here who are experienced in this area can also comment and give their recommendations
For the HDD, have you tried pressing the Red A button on the remote as I mentioned earlier and select the type of files to play? The HDD should be recognised by the player.
The firmware is just the software that control the working of the player. It is not really necessary to upgrade if you are not having any problems with the player but some upgrades improve the performance of the player. If you want to upgrade, just follow the instructions on pg.55 of the manual. The important thing is never to switch on or off the player manually during the upgrading process.

I believe a BD player is not meant to play VCD, only BD, DVD and CD. My BD-C5500 can play VCD but without the menu and other controls so it is better to use your DVD player to play VCD. Don't waste the BD player, reserve it for BD! smile.gif

Possible your HDD issue?

I try up to 500GB HDD still working, never try bigger than it, but read from previous thread, it seems no issue on 1TB HDD.

Movies - 99% .MKV can play, DiVX/xViD certain format can't play.

samuraiiii79- You need to read the instruction in the samsung page.
Here is how I update the f/w using flashdrive. Make sure you not connected to LAN/internet during this. someone says previously that HDD cannot used for the update. Never try using disc to update.

How to prepare F/W Update file via USB flashdrive

1. Download the newest firmware file onto your computer from www.samsung.com.
2. If the firmware file is compressed (*.zip), the file should be uncompressed to RUF file(*.ruf).
3. Connect a USB flashdrive to your computer.
4.If there are previous versions of RUF file on USB flashdrive, delete them.
5. For me I delete all files in the flashdrive, or just quick format it. Never try with other files still on the flashdrive.
6.Copy the new RUF file to USB flashdrive. Make sure to copy to the root. do not put it inside a folder.

How to upgrade the Blu-ray DiscPlayer

1. On the Player. The display should read "No Disc".
2. If there disc, remove it, and close tray until the player read "No Disc".
3. The player should already on. Insert the USB flashdrive into the Blu-ray player while it is still ON.
4. If the flashdrive prepare steps and the above 3 steps correctly done, the screen will automatically show pop up new f/w found and ask you to update.
5. Press [Enter] on the OK to upgrade firmware.
6. The power will be turned off and on at the beginning of the firmware upgrade. The upgrade progress bar will be appeared. Just leave the player alone during this. It suppose to turn off and on by itself.
7. When the update is completed the Blu-ray DiscPlayer will be turned off automatically.
8. The player should be off now. Remove the USB flashdrive.
9. It is now safe to power on your Blu-ray DiscPlayer. You can check your version in the setting screen.

Hope this help u. Happy update. thumbup.gif

A very detail and useful instruction for upgrading firmware using a flash drive and the USB port, thanks to kkrazer. notworthy.gif
For those less adventurous and have a network connection, it may be easier to let the player do it automatically. Just follow the instructions on pg. 55 of the user manual and make sure you have a good internet connection. smile.gif
