Maybe people here wants the player because it can also upscale their current DVD collection, whereas media player's can't.

And besides, even if u have a media player, where do u get the movies from?  wink.gif

I tried Upscalling from DVD, but for 50" TV above the PQ is worst la....i think for 42"just nice.

Wait till you have to buy Bluray disc. And before you know it, those disc cost far more than the player. Furthermore, even if are willing to pay, they are not readily available. That's why I decided not to get a Bluray player and instead, gotten a good media player.

Don't have to worry too much on Bluray disc yet.

As an additional option to be able to use it as a media player this unit has already served it's purpose well. IMO. No need to have too many units of hardware around. Less one remote control also as it can be used for my Sammy TV.

DVD's surely can't beat BD's that's a fact but I find the upscaling is OK on my 55". Unless the DVD is a very poor pirate copy.
Garbage in garbage out.

avantasia - did you upscale it 1080P and output it to 1080P only, not auto.
So far i see 50' and above if upscale to 1080P still okay, except for fast moving screen.

I never have one of those TV/BDPlayer that can play mkv or whatever files so not in position to comment. But logic would indicate a purpose built media player must be able to do better playing those files.

Just realised that this player only comes with 1 HDMI output.... Which means I've to use optical cable to connect to home theatre?

Meaning I won't get Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD?

Correct me if I'm wrong.....

How is the quality of the picture then? Not as good as HDMI I believe. But is the difference very significant?

HDMI from BDP to AVR, and another HDMI from AVR to TV.

HDMI all the way, so what do you mean by 'not as good as HDMI' ? rclxub.gif

If you got a good AVR then it is OK or could be better also. If not you can just set Passthrough. No significant difference found.

HDMI all the way so it is OK.

50 inch can't la... 40 inch still ok............

But at least it is far far better than non- upscaling player lo.

Beside this, depends on the quality of the DVD also. (if you upscale those ahem..... DVD5 then it is ready bad as origin source already not good)

As I know, Picture must use HDMI, using component only can output the Picture in 480P mode.

Shop sent it last nite after delivering the TV to inlaws place. A short and brief review only. But for only 300+ a pop it is really tremendously cheap. Wife did not believe until I showed her the receipt. Thought I had erased off the 1 in front. Ha ha.

Setup was easy and fast. Updated also to latest firmware. Need to use Thumb Drive. Unable to detect if it was on the HDD.

Pro's
Loading Time - fast
Video quality - good
Audio - ok

Con's
Audio quality - PCM was still the best. Bitstream was very faint - funny though. Have to turn up to very high levels.
GUI - scrolling of movie files need some time. Icons a bit too big.
Disk loading tray is a bit flimsy.

Summary - for this meagre amount we are paying and getting a disc and media player together in a combo like this, we cannot ask more anything more.

Question: can the USB port behind (for the Wireless LAN adapter) be used as another USB to HDD port. That way we can connect the HDD behind the unit. It also looks neater.

Can it play BD-ISO?

Kopisan,

Not sure. No time to read manual yet.
Maybe you can check out the specs at official website.Should be a good partner for yr TV I guess. I have put aside my media player and a few DVD players since this can also do the job well. Wife happy as the place has become neater and less remote controls.

Doriofoo & braveheart,

Thank you for the confirmation..... I was mistaken.... I got confused with AVR being the composite wires.... Hahahahahah... Now I know AVR means av Receiver...

I bought it last week. Don't ask for recommendations for other outlets in Klang Valley (which you did - read your own post correctly) if the perimeter of your world is only within Setia Alam.

If u recommended a standalone seller or standalone company which only located in Balakong, I will check it out.

However u mentioned HLK which my place also have branch. With the advancement of inventory system and connectivity, I would say I would be a fool just to go directly to balakong instead on enquiries at the branches which nearer.

Anyway I don't want to argue anymore as I got myself a unit 2 days ago.
