Just a word of caution based on my recent experience. I left my BD-C5500 connected to my modem/router by LAN cable (after testing the internet function of the player) over a weekend and went outstation. The BD player was connected to my Denon AVR-1610 via HDMI and the modem was on. When I came back, I found the modem/router fried, probably by lightning during one of the thunderstorms through the phone line. Also the HDMI port on the AVR where the BD player was connected, was also damaged, presumably by the same strike of lightning. cry.gif Luckily, the AVR and the other HDMI ports (and the BD player itself) still work. sweat.gif

So the moral of the story is - unplugged all your LAN connections (and also the phone line) from your modem when not in use as you don't know what lightning can do to your equipment. Or as advised by others, get a lightning surge protector for peace of mind. icon_idea.gif

So poor and lucky some still working.

I never connect my modem or let it on - include unplug the telephone line, I switch off everything and unplug when not at home for safety condition.

Nope, it is Region A for Blu-ray and Region 3 for DVD. (I don't think region is important for BD, since we same region as USA and a lot movie is multi region or region free)

Confirmed region lock, as I put in region 1 DVD (from that Toy Story Ultimate Box) it push out the disc in a second and display wrong region.

While I'm not an expert in AV receiver thing, but I think it will be better to get the best you can afford. Better of all, drop by to some AV shops around and see it yourself. That way, you will know which one suits you better. Anyway, from what I read from an AV mag, Onkyo TX-SR608 seems like one of the best entry level units on the market. However, if you are using iPhone/iPod Touch thing, then you might interested in the Pioneer VSX-920.

Cheers! smile.gif

I am also no sifu here either but AFAIK, the big three in AVR locally is Denon, Onkyo and Yamaha in alphabetical order. Others include Pioneer and Sony which are less popular. Most of the current entry level AVR will have the 3 input/1 output HDMI ports you want and some even more. As hian has siad in the earlier post, go for the best you can afford. But then again, there is no point spending money on features that you don't really need so you must decide what are the features that you want. Do you need 3D compatibility? Do you need 7.1 sound or 5.1 is good enough for you? You can't go far wrong getting any of the popular brands above (within your budget) but according to sifus here, each brand will have its distinctive "signature" sound but may not be obvious to beginners. So decide on the features you need, check the specs, shop around and good luck. smile.gif

I believe that's what people are doing too, if they are able to get supply from Semenanjung. Even ahem BD is selling for RM35 each here, and 3 for RM100. laugh.gif

Conflicting data on the region free status. One forummer selling this says it's region free for blurays.

Has anybody tested whether it plays region A and region B blurays?

Thks

I don't think it is region free, since it is lock for DVD, only region 3 or free DVD is playable. (tested by me).

I can't 100% confirm on BD as I don't have any region B only BD to test, but since it is lock for DVD, no doubt it is lock for BD as well.
