Just a word of caution based on my recent experience. I left my BD-C5500 connected to my modem/router by LAN cable (after testing the internet function of the player) over a weekend and went outstation. The BD player was connected to my Denon AVR-1610 via HDMI and the modem was on. When I came back, I found the modem/router fried, probably by lightning during one of the thunderstorms through the phone line. Also the HDMI port on the AVR where the BD player was connected, was also damaged, presumably by the same strike of lightning.
Luckily, the AVR and the other HDMI ports (and the BD player itself) still work.
So the moral of the story is - unplugged all your LAN connections (and also the phone line) from your modem when not in use as you don't know what lightning can do to your equipment. Or as advised by others, get a lightning surge protector for peace of mind.
Ronald, you should invest in a Cal Lab surge protector...i download 24/7 and has a network of wired PCs....kena lightning strike twice middle of this year. Saved by Cal-Lab. So the moral of the story is - unplugged all your LAN connections (and also the phone line) from your modem when not in use as you don't know what lightning can do to your equipment. Or as advised by others, get a lightning surge protector for peace of mind.
