AFAIK from what I've read on the Internet it seems like it requires a brand new socket.http://www.techpowerup.com/155079/AMD-FM1-...compatible.html

Zambezi, Vishera - AM3+
Trinity - FM2 Llano - FM1 From my understanding... FM1 will co-exist for a while together with FM2 to cater the lower mainstream level (A6, A4 APUs) and still retaining the Llano architecture. Trinity FM2 will be on the upper mainstream with updated A8 as well as the new A10. FX will still use AM3+ at least until Q1 od 2013 to serve the enthusiast/high end consumer market. Getting Llano is more worth it or getting phenom/athlon + cheap discreet card is more worth it?

QUOTE(xcen @ Mar 14 2012, 12:43 PM) depend on what you target on. if you need full performance up on all the time as long as you turn on the machine, then second choice. for me, mostly I turn on 24/7, power saving is important for me but I need the balance on performance when needed too. so I will choose Llano but now I waiting for Trinity this year. still no news yet |

APU idle still achieved better than Intel according from the tomshardware reviews. furthermore, the comparison is taking A8-3870K, which is already AMD's fastest APU, while I won't buy K edition. I already using Intel many years, I want to give try AMD APU next.still better off wit cheap intel CPU + cheap GPU. u'll get similar if not slightly better gaming performance, & much more superior in non gaming apps. |

QUOTE(xcen @ Mar 14 2012, 12:43 PM) Llano should be great for HTPC setup and normal office work, internet browsing and those general use. Real world power consumption should also less than Phenom/Athlon + cheap discrete, measurable but not highly significant.Llano performance also scales better with higher DDR3 speeds compare to cheap Athlon II which hardly benefit higher DDR3 speeds. You may get cheaper build cost with older Athlon/Sempron AM3 but cheap motherboards also have outdated and limited features. Most cheaper/older AM3 mobos does not have SATA3 or USB3.0. Even built-in HD4290 (890GX) has lower performance than HD6530D in A6-series. Gaming at low resolution... Can't get any wrong with Llano. Let say we're comparing Athlon/Sempron based AM3 with built in graphics HD4290 (890GX) vs cheapest Llano A4 with built in graphics HD6410D, the latter is like 5-times better GPU performance than the former. At non-overclocked setting, AM3 Athlon II probably max out at ddr3-1333 or ddr3-1600 while Llano can still benefit ddr3-1866 greatly. starcraft, dota, cs:s ... Llano should be no problem. i'm expecting that diablo 3 will run without a hitch as well since the requirement looks like decently low. |

Seems like Llano is more cost effective for light gaming + mostly HD movie watching.Llano performance also scales better with higher DDR3 speeds compare to cheap Athlon II which hardly benefit higher DDR3 speeds. QUOTE(AlanSiew @ Mar 16 2012, 07:05 PM) just copy and paste the title here from source. if you read again the article, is mentioned the old chipset alone able to support build for both socket motherboard. Trinity is not using FM1.the news bring is just want to tell us A85X chipset is ready in Q1 and expected to see A85X motherboard in Q2. but didn't confirm the motherboard socket support. |
