I think as long as the food is decent, and they don't try and cook asian meals, food at uni halls should be fine. During my time in Australia, our meals were typical aussie fare, and it was fine. However my son did complain that the hostel he stayed in last year had rather bad catered food, and it was mostly because they were attempting to cook asian dishes which failed rather miserably. This year he was in a uni residential college, and he said food was superb, with formal dinners once a week, including a red and a white, as long as you're over 18. Doubt he will get to enjoy that in the UK though!

I am not too sure about mine but I hope she adapts quickly.

I am more concerned on the weather; cold, damp and raining.

Am sure she will be fine, and adapt quickly. As far as weather is concerned, I suppose they have to be psychologically prepared to adapt that for the next 5 years at least. Exciting times for the young huh?

I think so. It's her choice and not the parents!

For a start, they have lined up some interesting places to visit for internationals which would be part of orientation or integration.

I thought it should be 800 * number of months, which is 12 in my case..

How come they separate post grad accommodation and undergrad. I just realise there will be no catering offered to postgrad students

so to proceed my visa I would need

1) Photographs according to their requirement
2) Sufficient fund (bank statement or signed letter by bank branch manager), any branch will do?
3) Fill in your application online and print a copy of it to be proceed on
4) Appoint a date and process your application at Wisma MCA

How long does it took to process your entire Visa Application, I am still worried I cant make it for September Intake. Will try to make my appointment on next Friday meanwhile filling in necessary document

If you start doing now, you will meet it.

Those who sat for the A levels and gotten conditional offers will only get the A levels results on August 16 or 18, 2012.

There is apparently a notice at the VFS that medical check ups are not required, due to " Malaysian healthcare standards".
*
Informed that there is no requirement but immigration may pick on random. For med students, uni to carry out further screening before orientation.

You don't have to get a translation for birth certificate.
Go to the National Registration Department with your original birth certificate in Malay and request for a dual-language birth certificate. Waiting period can vary depending on the number of people they have to serve. Make sure to confirm the details are correct they show to you before they print out the official document (experience from Pusat Bandar Damansara NRD branch, literally 10 minutes to process as there was no people - went there at around 4:00 PM, near closing time).
*
Such services are not available at other branch offices.

If you are traveling to KL, weigh your transportation cost and the translation cost at the High Court which cost RM30.

Really? I just called NRD Putrajaya, they said it'll take 1-2 weeks, depending on their records. And he said that it can be done in any NRD branch. Maybe I should try calling Damansara NRD branch... sweat.gif
Which part of the court can do this? Who should I see if I want to translate it at Jln Duta High Court?
*
I did it at another High Court.

Ask the admin office and you should get the right direction.

Hi guys,

I am going to Birmingham this September. Need some advice on the bank drafts thingy. I am planning to bring in two bank drafts, one to pay for the tuition fees and the other to open a bank account, but it seems that Malaysian Customs restrict the amount that we can take with us.
The total amount I would be bringing would be about 16k pound.
Do I need to go Bank Negara and have it approved and declare it? Or is it just me worrying to much?
*
Why don't you open an account with one of the international banks and do internet banking.

This would save you from all the hassle.

Oh, you mean like HSBC and others? Well my counselor advises me to open a UK bank since I would be staying more then 6 months. Do you mean to suggest that I should open a bank account and transfer from HSBC or other similar international banks later?

I am just worried that they charge some ridiculous foreign transaction fees.

Thanks for the suggestion!
*
HSBC is flexible and no charge on Internet transfers. TT is at RM25 per transaction but charges apply at receiving bank. Exchange rate given attractive and competitive.

*
As long as you comply with the 28 days requirement and able to proof it, it's ok.
The best would get a letter from cimb.

Thanks for the info guys! I am probably gonna get the banker's draft and get it done with.

Btw for anyone interested or future query, I called Bank Negara, and as long as we are not taking out RINGGIT malaysia RM10,000 and above, other currency is fine.
*
We can just carry ANY amount of foreign currencies out without any problem? Sure or not?

Just paid my flight booking payment with my travel agent. Going to apply for insurance tomoro because, in my view, we're going to live in UK for almost 1 year, so i guess its kinda reasonable to get an insurance just in case.

What about medical reports, guys? Full medical checkup with reports? X-ray too?
*
Only X-ray needed with its report.

I would like to know,

For the maintenance of fund,
if the fund comes from your parents, you would have to show proof of relationship.

In that case your birth cert as well as your parents identification right? I plan show my parents's either Identification Card or Passport for that purpose.

Then comes on proof of financial statement from the bank.

Anyone have sample of letter? Some bank refuse to issue the letter without an addressee, can I know who should I direct to? UKBA?

Anyone have a draft letter how it would looks like? From UKBA website, it requires to show the
- student 's or their parents legal guardians name and
- the  account number
- the date of the letter
- the financial instituiotion's name and logo.

My parents funding would be from various bank as they did not place all saving under single bank account (most of them comes under form of Fixed Deposit). Would that hinder my chance of application?

Sorry for questions again and would like to thank in advance
*
If you had placed those funds in your name for 28 days, you would not have any issue.

I also have yet to pay anything other than hostel confirmation deposit.. Any idea when I have to pay for my semester fees?

Anyone else heading to Kent?
*
Just comply with the conditions of the offer and what is needed to get the CAS no. They may be a 1k pounds advance fees payment requirement. Other queries communicate with the uni by email. Different uni may have different requirements.

one could have avoided all these translation issues if the money is transferred to the student at least 28 days prior, and you will just need the statement/bank book showing the student has the money in his/her account the last 28 days....then no need birth cert, parent letter etc.....
*
Exactly. Can't understand why the monies is not in the student's name. This is just the first year's fees and living expenses. TRUST, a factor? rclxub.gif
