be careful how you give wrong advices....the question is the most cost effective way, and then how to pay fees, in relatively large amount....

the cheapest way is the bank draft....buy in any msian bank for rm5....bring over, and bank into your uk account once set up....no other charges....tt will cost you about rm20 here, and they take another few quids (usually about 10-15) the other side....

for fees payment, the easiest way is actually to pay by credit card on line....if your uni has this facility...and most do....it's large sum, may be over your (parents) cc limit, so give a call to the bank to request for a temporary increase in limit to cover the payment...however, do note that the roe used may be worse than the usual tt rate...about 1% more...

alternatively if not urgent, the bank draft comes in use again, buy one in the name of the uni, and post it to them...

the pound has strengthen in recent months, so it going to hurt....but take consolation in the fact that it is not as bad as 2007 when it was 7.2....
*
The thing about TT is that depending on your bank, you can ask for a lower exchange rate, which will in effect reduce the the overall cost of transferring the money over. It's not wrong advice if you research thoroughly.

TT follows the standard exchange rate, the same rate used for bank draft....if big amounts, or you know them, they can give you slightly better rates....but that works for both TT and draft...

TT is meant for urgent transfers....it is fast....but costly...definite not for routine small sum transfers....

i should add that if you have the right credit cards, payment through it gives you significant points, and can be redeemed for travel miles for airtickets...

eg, your fees is 20k pounds, so you pay about rm120k, with some maybank visa cards, you get 600k treats points, which you can redeem for about 125k enrich miles....you need a little bit more to redeem for a business class return mas ticket to lhr....

you pay about 1% more using the cc, and there are taxes of about 2,800 for the ticket....so for a total cost of rm4000, about the normal price of an economy ticket, you redeem a business class ticket worth normally rm15k....

Just obtained my bank letter, they seem to stick to a new template now while preparing the letter.
Even though the account is joint name account, my parents with me, but the letter writes my mother as the account holder and states she's my mother.

Does this mean I need to provide my birth cert as well for the documents during visa application? This adds more work to my preparation.

Hope everything goes well.

Had a question regarding the TB test for the visa.

I plan to go to the Life Care centre in Bangsar for the test, but my offers are still conditional and I don't have a CAS. Is it still possible to take the test?

Yes you can, they don't need your CAS statement.
I think you just need to bring your offer letter, photos that fit the UK visa requirements, and your passport.

Hmm ok, I'll see what I can do.

As I'm planning to book an appointment with VFS I recalled 1 thing. 4 years ago in 2011, when I applied for UK study visa, I remember buying a bank draft to pay VFS for some sort of application fees.
But today I can't seem to find the information regarding buying bank draft anymore. Has the procedure changed?

Hi, i'm joining Strathclyde for MsC Electrical Engineering this coming Sep.

1/7 will be the "interview" for the visa application. Just to re-confirm the documents needed:

1) Passport
2) Uni Offer Letter
3) Documents: Transcript, Undergraduate Cert
4) TB Test Cert
5) Passport size photos with white background
6) Appointment Letter with Signed & Dated
7) *Bank Statement (ngam ngam cukup 28 days. From the previous post, I found that bank statement is not compulsory)

I have went through the posts but still hv some queries:

1) Did i still need to bring my old passport?

2) All documents needed to be 2 x photocopied, does it involves Passport & Appointment Letter? Some of my friends said that it is better to get all photocopied document certified, is it true?

3) I received my CAS through e-mail, shall the "electronic version of CAS" means that i could just print out the e-mail & submit it?

4) About the Immigration Health Surcharge, what exactly does it for? Do i need it for visa application or could i pay later?

There are specific places which they recognize.

EDIT:
Just sent my visa application form and documents to VFS Global Malaysia in Wisma MCA. Hope everything goes well. smile.gif
Would like to share with you all some differences I saw compared to when I first applied in year 2011:
- They now provide 'pre-application scrutiny' service on 3rd floor of the building, that's where the security guards on 19th floor directed me to go when I reached there half an hour before my appointment time. On 3rd floor they'll organize and check the documents which you want to submit, and sealed in an envelope which you can just passed to the counter on 19th floor straight away when your number is called. So you should actually go to 3rd floor first, and they'll start scrutinizing your documents about 5 minutes before your appointment time.
- Education certificates and financial evidence are optional, but I submitted them all anyway since I brought everything there. Please bring a photocopy of the documents that you are going to submit, keep this in your mind: if you want to have the original copy back when you're collecting your passport, send the photocopy version along. This includes the TB screening certificate.
- For Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), they asked me to provide the exact amount that I paid for IHS, which isn't written on the email with IHS reference number, it's in another email they sent, so do take note.
- On 19th floor, the queue system still have rooms for improvement, cause it doesn't have a display which shows the queue number, and you have to listen to the announcement to know it's your turn.

That should be all, everything else is pretty much just follow the instructions.

Hope this post helps.

Note. Unless you have confirmed on which university that you want to go to, you might need to wait for your TB test as you will need to fill in your University name + postcode.

Either that or a permanent address in UK. That's it.
