Yeah, I believe it's used as proof that you are in fact your parents' child. And yeah, it needs to be translated or I think you can get a bilingual one from JPN for like RM5? That was how it was 4 years ago when I applied anyway.

Ah ok, I was actually getting a shock while reading your post, cause I'm pretty sure I did not submit my birth cert for visa application, 4 years ago as well.
I'm also going to UK for postgraduate studies in this coming September, so now I'm looking around to check if I missed any important documents for submission.

By the way, I would like to ask a question regarding financial evidence for visa application.
4 years ago I just submit letter from bank which was written in specific format provided by my uni's regional office. I would like to know if things are still the same for now?

Does anyone have a format that can be used for reference for bank to write a letter? I would like to check and compare with bank letter of 4 years ago, and see if there's any difference.
Thanks. smile.gif

So far what I have should be the documents that I used to apply for my course, tb certificate and visa photos.
Gonna get a bank letter soon, and pay for the health surcharge.

Are there anything else that I missed? icon_question.gif

When I applied for visa 4 years ago it was compulsory to submit for application.
However from few replies in page 160 and 161 of the thread, including my own, I found that they might not request for the bank statement anymore.

But I don't know how does that go, so to avoid the possibility of having problem in the future I'll ask my bank to prepare me a letter anyway. I plan to bring it with me during the document submission, and submit the letter if required.

Anyone who has submitted and got their visa application approved is welcomed to reply to clear up my confusion.

Hmm, sorry to say but I don't really understand what exactly your questions mean, but I'll answer them based on my understanding.

I can't help you much regarding ATAS, since it's not required for my course.

For TB screening, it usually takes around 4 days after you have done the screening to get the certificate that you need for visa application.

Regarding pay extra money for Visa, I assume you meant you want to pay extra money to your university to minus off the outstanding balance that will be shown on your CAS statement? If that's the case, you can, but I don't really see the need for that, since you have that amount of money anyway, you just need to maintain it in your account for 28 consecutive days and you're good to go for visa application.
It might take some time for the payment to go through, then also some time for the university to give you the updated CAS statement, since you mentioned that you wondered if you can make it on time I assume you're running out of time, if that's the case, I suggest you keep the money in your account instead.

Final one, I don't recommend that, I myself also haven't buy the flight ticket yet. Unless, however, if you find a great deal that can save you like probably RM500-1K and above for example, then maybe you can consider, whether you want to take the risk or not.
If you can meet all the requirements, have the money, it's not likely that your visa application will get rejected, but I won't say it's 100% guarantee your visa application will get approved also, I think there's risk in it no matter how minor it is. For me, I'm not willing to take the risk.

Hope I answered your questions.

I'll be going over to UK this September for my MSc International Banking and Finance with the University of Strathclyde.

Any other Malaysians that would be heading over to the same uni or either to Glasgow ?

Hi, i'm joining Strathclyde for MsC Electrical Engineering this coming Sep.

1/7 will be the "interview" for the visa application. Just to re-confirm the documents needed:

1) Passport
2) Uni Offer Letter
3) Documents: Transcript, Undergraduate Cert
4) TB Test Cert
5) Passport size photos with white background
6) Appointment Letter with Signed & Dated
7) *Bank Statement (ngam ngam cukup 28 days. From the previous post, I found that bank statement is not compulsory)

I have went through the posts but still hv some queries:

1) Did i still need to bring my old passport?

2) All documents needed to be 2 x photocopied, does it involves Passport & Appointment Letter? Some of my friends said that it is better to get all photocopied document certified, is it true?

3) I received my CAS through e-mail, shall the "electronic version of CAS" means that i could just print out the e-mail & submit it?

4) About the Immigration Health Surcharge, what exactly does it for? Do i need it for visa application or could i pay later?
*
Hey man, was reading the post and realised that you're heading over to Strathclyde too.

Have you sorted out your accommodations ?

save the time going to the bank. I wasted mine when i did it last year.

While I'm here, i'm interested to know about extending my Tier 4 visa, if anyone has done that. I'm adding an additional year to my course.

Hi guys, I have questions related to banking.

Which bank do you use in the UK and what are your recommendation?

Is HSBC good? There are a few bad reviews online...

Could any one provide some advice on the most cost efficient way of transferring money from Malaysia to the UK?

How do I transfer large amount of money to UK (more than RM10000)? I need the money to pay my tuition fees.

For tuition payments, just TT to your university's bank account with your name/student id if you've gotten it. By far the easiest way. I use barclays, it's one of the easier ones to set up there, and their online banking/debit card usage, and mobile app (pingit and barclaysapp) is very useful.

Unless you have a HSBC premier account, or else avoid HSBC in UK. Because AFAIK HSBC UK have monthly service charge for normal account holder, premier account, however, is exempted from the service charge.

Like 1 of the posts above mentioned, Barclays is pretty common, most of my friends used that last time. Same goes to other local banks like Lloyd's etc.
Also, I'm second to TT, pretty easy and efficient, saves you hassle.

Alternatively, you can also buy a bank draft and bring it over there to cash in to your new UK bank account.

Thanks for your reply. The daily transfer limit for TT is RM10,000. So if i want to pay my tuition fees (which cost more than the limit), does this means that I have to seperate the payment into few days? Is there any way to pay the full amount?

be careful how you give wrong advices....the question is the most cost effective way, and then how to pay fees, in relatively large amount....

the cheapest way is the bank draft....buy in any msian bank for rm5....bring over, and bank into your uk account once set up....no other charges....tt will cost you about rm20 here, and they take another few quids (usually about 10-15) the other side....

for fees payment, the easiest way is actually to pay by credit card on line....if your uni has this facility...and most do....it's large sum, may be over your (parents) cc limit, so give a call to the bank to request for a temporary increase in limit to cover the payment...however, do note that the roe used may be worse than the usual tt rate...about 1% more...

alternatively if not urgent, the bank draft comes in use again, buy one in the name of the uni, and post it to them...

the pound has strengthen in recent months, so it going to hurt....but take consolation in the fact that it is not as bad as 2007 when it was 7.2....
