Use Orthos instead and 1 instance is enough to test both cores.

Hmmm. Orthos enough? Prime seems to fail easier compared to orthos, that's why I used that. Blend of small fft or large? smile.gif

i use the blend option
it would stress both RAM & cpu

Errr.... you want a program that can test for stability, not a program that doesn't show whether your OC is stable or not i.e. will fail if your rig is unstable

Both orthos and prime95 are good programs to check for stability in dual-cores.... make sure you use "small FFT" - to stress the CPU.....

Haha. That's why i said, prime95 seems to fail easier than orthos when doing my stability tests, that's why I used prime. Clawhammer was suggesting I use orthos. smile.gif

But I'll take the tip on small fft. thanks ( =

Got another question. I was running orthos small fft, then I went to bathe. When I came back, I saw my screensaver was out, but the screensaver wasn't moving. I moved my mouse, and nothing responded. I instinctively thougght my pc had frozen again, but just before I hit the reset button, i saw my mouse cursor appeared. I moved my mouse a bit, and the cursor moved, but my screen was still a frozen screensaver, then the screen changed to a blank white screen but I could still move my cursor around. Then after while i was back in windows, and orthos was still runnign without any errors. Is this a sign of instability?

on the contrary...it showed the sign os stability.when u orthos with small fft, all (almost) cpu resource went to orthos...thus basically none left for the screensaver which actually require a lot of resource of cpu and ram...and the screensaver only able to 'resume' once the cpu is back...after all this, the orthos still running without error, then it showed that ur setting is stable... thumbup.gif

Approximately 90% of the people uses Orthos and this is observed from all other forums also. If you want it to fail easier, set the priority to 9 or 10.

Roger roger. I'll be happy that I managed to do small fft on priority 8 for 6 hours then. smile.gif Got bored of waiting and want to play some games. If I use blend mode, how long roughly should I run it before I can consider my proc stable? Just want to make sure my rams are holding up fine. biggrin.gif

erm.. I don't know if anyone can claim their penryn can do 4gig at below 1.4vcore.. Mine can do 4Gig at 1.45vcore but not totally stable.. eventhough it passed orthos 12 hrs but when it comes to heavy gaming, my rig will crash and sometimes bsod.. not sure why.. that frustrated me a lot!! I've tried varied setting before conceded defeat and running fine 24/7 at 3.8Gig at 1.38 vcore...

does anyone own a E8200 can claim their system is fully stable at 4GHz?? mine could not.. or just maybe I had a bad chip sad.gif

baok, my E8200 runs perfectly fine and stable at 4.01Ghz (502 x 8). Here is my setup and all voltages as per BIOS:

Foxconn Mars P11 Bios
* Vcore 1.400V
* NB volt 1.344V

2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 13-4-4-4
* Vdimm 2.160V

erm.. the card is at factory setting (I don't fancy OC a vga card), plus if I lower it at 3.8Gig, it will fully stable.. heck, I could get 4Gig at the very same vcore but orthos will fail after about 2-3hours or so.. Temp/power is ok I guess as I'm using TTBT and Delta server 600watt.. nay.. I just look at this thread and somehow I read about those "degradation" thingy.. is that true?? FYI I bought this proc from a fren.. not sure what he did to this proc.. he don't even know how to oc.. (not sure if someone else did for him)..

dang.. really shouldn't buy a cheapo 2nd proc.. I was tempted at his rm500 tag sweat.gif shite.. btw, 3.8 is still a good clock IMHO even though it is not excellent.. can't complaint much but deep inside I'm not satisfied with the proc.. will buy another one this PCFair... sweat.gif

--edit=--

thx clawhammer.. guess I may have the bad chip after all.. may I know what cooler/mobo do you use?? thanks smile.gif

btw, I did up my fsb and MCH at +0.2v.. using Noctua as NB cooler (passive)

No problem baok smile.gif Maybe it's something else and not the CPU. I was previously using IFX-14 and now on water cooling.
