Youu mean the RM800 85mm? Well, provided you don't compare them below f/2.8, then you shouldn't be able to see the difference at a quick glance I suppose.. but of coz what you pay is what you get, 4000 bucks vs 800 bucks, you know the math wink.gif

damn hot, jz back from shower...

actually its the shutter sound of the A100 last time that made me buy it wayyy back then... but after using it for some time and having get to compare with nikons and canons, i hated the A100 shutter for being SO indiscreet... everyone in the room will hear you everytime you press the shutter... like a shotgun going off if shooting in a quiet room.. ><

QUOTE(zstan @ Aug 25 2010, 04:55 PM)
i read from wiki too. got blur when they got into the technical thingy. rclxub.gif

hmmm..so older SLRs like my dinosaur still uses contrast AF right?

but for phase detect, usually people dun need to select their focus points anymore? unless they wanna do it manually?  hmm.gif
OT: managed to borrow an EP1, going to play with it tonight  laugh.gif
*
none of our alpha cameras employ contrast AF, only found in other brands' dslr that have video mode. then again, they only use contrast AF when in video mode, not in normal image capturing.

it is the technology in the AF module itself you see the difference in AF speed in your dinosaur compared to my petroleum. do take note that A700 is older than your unit.

QUOTE(hazril @ Aug 25 2010, 06:03 PM)
shortcut explanation :

contrast AF : zeet,zeet,zeet,zeet,zeet...!!!beep,beep...!!! (AF confirm)
phase AF : zeet..!!!beep,beep...!!! (AF confirm)

best explanation so far rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

but in some lighting condition mine would go  sweat.gif : (backlight)
zeet,zeet,zeet,zeet,zeet,zeet, ZZZzzzzz mad.gif ---> change to MF ---> kacaak

hoping in the a55 have improvement as it no longer use contrast base  nod.gif
*
me likes this one too...

you just need to know where to point the centre AF point when in backlighted condition. find of a high contrast edge. eg. the hairline vs the backlight... it will lock focus almost immediately. its only when there is flare that AF is harder to lock on... if that is the case, use your left hand like a lens hood to block out the light direction that is causing the flare, then lock focus, then u can take away your hand and fully press the shutter

all other alphas are have been using phase detect AF all the while, apart from the NEX

ieR, but dpreview's tests show that the full time AF isnt up to par when it comes to tracking fast moving subjects. its giving a low yield

ieR, referring to high fps still image shooting. but of course they are comparing it to the likes of D300s, D3 and 1DmkIV and the likes, as only those will be able to achieve fps of that caliber.

at some point, i do agree as well. where else would one need 10fps? and if at 10fps, the yield is low, why use it?

macam ku kenal saja photographer ni... hurmmm...  laugh.gif

Anyway, recently I got a SLR (film) which was Maxxum 7000. A beauty.  wink.gif
Getting curious of what happen if attach a DT lens on it, hence I put on 18-55 SAM on it and the aperture and shutter speed goes nuts! sweat.gif  Jumping down and up!

Heavy vignette at wide angle (forgot the focal length) the disappear after some zooming... shakehead.gif

But the AF just won't work. Any idea why?  blink.gif

not sure about your's, but when i put my SAL1118 into my Minolta 7000i, it works fine. everything works, AF, aperture.. all ok... opened all the way at 11mm, will have vignette, it will be gone around 14mm, which is more than good... meaning its an actual 14mm on FF... not APS-C's 21mm equivalent.
